It all depends on his mind. I did the West Coast Cycle tour lat Dec (o6) at 125kg. It was my first ride in 7 years (44 yrs old now). Did the 80 km, no training either but wanted to see what my residual fitness was. Suffered but did it in 3h57. Was seriousely embarrased but got my head right, lost 20kg and did the Argus in Mch07 in 3h59. So it can be done but you have to become obsessed with getting fitter and losing weight. Did DC on weekend now as well but still need to lose another 15kg, so if I can do it .....

You may get more response from the other areas i.e. Tech Q&A as the Notice Board or "Classifieds" is used for selling or purchasing items. Anyway, I have Easton Vista SL's, am a bit of a heavyweight at 100kg, and the wheels are superb.

Franschoek is tough but I didn't find it as tough as Pompstasie and I had cycled about 80km before I did Franschoek. I have only done it once so maybe it was just a good day for me.

It is but I think Pompstasie is worse, but close. The short side of Franschoek I mean.
