  1. Having just had a quick glance over the posts so far I don't see a mention of the type of antenna that the various models have. Looking at the pictures above and the descriptions of the routes cycled it seems that the signal is degraded under tree cover or in urban areas which is common with patch antennas. The cycle and running oriented models have a "patch" antenna but the fancier and bigger models used for hiking navigation have a "quad helix" which is believed to be more accurate under cover. Also as cycling and running GPS’ need to be quite small they normally have the smallest possible antenna required to function adequately. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 62s and it is extremely accurate for the rides Ive used it on. Messing around with the waypoint averaging ive got spot accuracies of about 30cm.
  2. I want to do some work on the place below. Coming back from Delta its a really cool fast section and you can motor. There is quite a launch but it needs a landing or you get lots of air and then a flat landing. There are two mounds of earth. The second is where my bike is in 2nd pic. It foesnt look much in photos but is quite substantial. We need to move mound 2 and fill it against the launch or some form of double. Proposing weekend of 5/6July. Would need picks shovels and barrows
  3. Available Sat morn or Sun afternoon. Just let me know. Happy to chip in some cash for materials if needed.
  4. There was a good discussion of this a few weeks back on www.sportscientists.com. Nature vs Nurture and what is talent. Go check it out
  5. Rio is easy Favelas!!! Look at what redbull have done with their urban downhills. Imagine how many people would line that course! It would be epic. There are several sports that have out of town venues i.e rowing and sailing are often 30-80km away if the venue is right. I know rowing in Barcelona was 80km away and in Beijing 50km. Even London was 25km away from main village. Enough time in traffic that they set up a separate mini village for rowing/canoing/kayaking
  6. Yebo. My wrist is now healed so im back in the saddle.
  7. Dude that's hectic. My boet did almost identical when he was about 10. Also lost a few cm of bone. Docs put a separator plate in to hold the bones apart. When they took them out my dad used the one for a key ring. Still got it!! Heal fast!!
  8. Yeah. I hope that my grandkids can still see something like that one day
  9. Either you have a VERY big lens or you need to leave in a hurry!!
  10. This is the profile from my GPSMAP62
  11. I did the pass and then across the plateau and up black mountain pass. 3450m. Went from Sani backpackers and back. About 6hrs riding total about 85km if I recall. Took my time and enjoyed the views. Had quite long stops at the hotel at the top of sani and at top of black mountain so was about 8hrs all in.
  12. I think once this rain pisses off we need to find a few Sat/Sun afternoons to sort out the jump. berms etc to make it cool for winter. I thnk the Byron and Bunderberg lines have taken a beaten with the rain. I should be able to use a shovel again from next Tuesday!!
  13. The most important number to measure is the speed of the bike. If yours is higher than everyone else you will be ahead. Don't get bogged down in magic numbers. For every threshold, lactate, HR, turn point, zone, etc there is a person who doesn't worry about any of that and wins. Also what is deemed critical today will be forgotten about in a few months/years as someone else invents/measures something new
  14. Great thanks for the reply. 2nd question - do you do an adaptor that could run both the lights off a single battery pack? Don't see anything under accessories on your webpage. Would that work or drain the pack too quickly - the longest night ride I do is 2hrs. I currently have a 6 cell pack
  15. Ok I have an Extreme light which I'm quite happy with. Its the Extreme 1400K. But I find that the beam is quite narrow almost like a spotlight. I struggle on fast sharp twisty stuff when looking where the trail is going next as the beam is great straight ahead but does not have much peripheral light. I am considering getting a 2nd light but want this one to be a much broader beam. It does not necessarily have to be super bright. So Id have one strong spot (1400k) and a broad beam as well Any suggestions
  16. But maybe we need to take up dewald on his offer of 5000m3 http://www.renicoplant.co.za/tippers/details/ Maybe a bunch of people chip in and get a 6m3 for a day. Say 2-3 trips to Kyalami Put the soil next to where the bricks are stacked across the road from that building site and then move it from there onto the trail
  17. Im keen to help but can only do it one handed for a while. Apparently the digging on saturday wasn't good for the fractured scaphoid. Could barely hold my beer on Sunday .
  18. Ha Ha. Just need to find some big trees with a large root system that requires a big hole to be dug. Then leave the soil for the fairies!!
  19. What really needs to happen here is for a group to form for trail advocacy on the spruit i.e. something more formal than "spruit fairies". Lets face it cyclists are 90% of the users over a 35km stretch. Then a formal proposal for sections needs to be put forward and worked into a professional presentation. Include safety, environmental concerns, impact on other users, area used vs total area, signage etc etc. Then the dog walkers would need to come up with some alternative proposal if they were to oppose it.
  20. Nothing like seeing a 45 000 ton ship get pushed 5m sideways. Nine 16inch (4-6mm) guns capable of each tossing a 1 ton projectile out to 30km The little cap pistols firing the puff in the blue are 5inch of which there are 12.
  21. Sounds we need to plan an afternoon and anyone with a bakkie or trailer lines up for a cube or 2 and drops it at the scout hall
  22. What about if we rerouted that whole trail across the other side of the stream. Gap and bridge the stream somewhere down below the dam wall and make a cool line on the other side. Its much less used for walking etc. Dubsy you can work off a few mince pies shoveling that pool soil into my trailer
  23. If we can find out who it is I vote we have a midnight mission to rebuild and at the same time weld the f**ckers gates closed. There was also a guy there one time who interrupted some intrepid students who were in the process of making a second mole hill about half way along that straight (its pretty poor as only 1/2 a trailer got donated). He was ranting a bit about safety and was about to take pics of reg plates so a hasty retreat was in order.
