  1. A few teasers of what has been done on the Byron Line build. Thanks to everyone that turned out over the past few weeks to make it happen. For those that ride the spruit it starts up near Tana Rd as you head back downstream (Fratellis direction). Look for the path that branches off on the left just as you crest the rise. It goes up close to the wooden fence and then down near the wall. There are several gaps and obstacles but we've made sure the are chicken lines around all of them so it is rideable by all. Enjoy
  2. Yup you got to pedal hard for that last one to carry speed over the hop. Cased it the day after it was built. Thought I broke my wrist! But sunday pm it is to finish build
  3. Yebo. Across Rustenburg rd by the gym. The double and the gap are so smooth to jump. Thanks to Peach's excellent raking skills and that bloke with a shovel and barrow. Should get finished up this weekend.

  5. Sweet. That area has some cool potential for a nice long line extending beyond the gulley. Need to find someone digging a swimming pool!
  6. Done. Tweek as required. Enjoy!
  7. If anyones in town and wants to help out tomorrow morning Im planning on digging up those three little tables near the Virgin active and making them one bigger table/double. Move it a bit back, to about midway between the 1st and 2nd one at the moment. That should allow a better run into the jump over the ditch If anyones keen 7:30am tomorrow morning. Bring a shovel, pick and barrow if you can.
  8. Not sure I can claim that one! Did replace the plank on the skinny near tana rd though. Holidays coming up! Boredom = building
  9. 2000+ tests and no Xmen. Just goes to show how little effect on a global level, nuclear power has. Just build massive nuke reactors out in the desert, run power lines to the city and stop burning fossil fuels. Take the waste, load it in a rocket and send it into the sun.
  10. I live in Ferndale and am the chairman of our complex. A few years ago we had lots of problems with people cutting the fence and then doing smash and grabs with cars parked in the parking. We had a old 5 strand electric fence which was useless. Got some guys from various companies to come and look at it. The one we went to was Fence Erect and the guy was Alistair. He came in called a spade a spade and told us exactly what worked and didnt. We went with a 10 strand fence that overhangs the wall so you cant get up onto the wall as well. Also installed a siren that wakes the dead. Its been off twice were guys have tried to cut the fence and EVERYONE wakes up! Havent had a break in in 2 years. Cost us about R45k. If you want to come round and have a look PM me
  11. Ok so assuming speeds averaging 40-60kph for the down sections you would need at least 4 stages of about 4-5km length. And to have 3 different courses. Thats a lot of trails. Ok so if we were more interested in just a single 4-5km track that was a sweet ride with berms, drops, jumps etc where would be the best. Harties just seems too rocky to me to be a great ride. Then again most of Gauteng is the same!
  12. Cascades is a cool ride. I was there a few weeks back over the long weekend and did the DH with a normal helmet. I think a full face is for when the speed and penalty for failure mean that your face will be removed if things go wrong. If you take it easaier like I did youll be fine with a normal helmet. So it depends just how stupidly quick you want to go down!
  13. Is there a venue in Gauteng that could be developed into a good enduro track. I see there is a lot of interest in the KZN event next week but lots of people on short budgets. Surely if there was a suitable venue then people would be keen to chip in a bit to hire some equipment to make a good local venue that could be ridden regularly. A R500 donation each would be a lot cheaper than multiple trips to KZN or WC. Does it need as big a hill as Cascades? Or would lots of smaller linked places be better?
  14. I had badly squealing Elixer 3's. Did a bit of reading around the net and then did the following Get 200grit sandpaper and sand roters until you cannot see any of the current marks from braking Sand brake pads the same. Reassemble and then bed in brakes properly - ride at medium speed and brake to a stop 10-15 times, ride at fast speed and brake hard 10-15 times Also bled the brakes for good measure Noise gone Hope this helps
  15. Wheres the best place to look for AM or bigger volume tires. All the bike shops seem to only stock 29er or 26 up to 2.1 Online?
  16. Going down that way for a wedding on Sat and want to stay after and try some of the trails in the area over the long weekend Im happy with 2-3hr rides on Monday and Tuesday morning before heading back. Which are the 2 best routes to ride Thanks
  17. Ive got some holidays coming up and will spend a bit of time doing some spadework on the spruit. I get bored after about a day on the couch! There is a section that could be livened up a bit just by the rock face drop off. As you ride past it going emmerentia direction there are two large mounds from where soil was dumped ages ago. They are grassed over but a bit of sculpting should sort them out. Also as you carry on a bit past that one of the big concrete blocks at the bottom of the pylons drops off about 40cm onto a small rocky downslope and would make a nice hop. Ive ridden it a few times but its very rough right next to the pylon so you cant keep up speed so I plan to smooth that out a bit and maybe fill a bit with soil. If you include the two little rock jumps a bit further back , the two mounds and the drop off it will make a nice little section better than the normal trail. At the bottom of the road where I live some tjop dumped a whole truck of soil so I will move it one venter load at a time. Ill use some to smoothy out those mounds and the drop and use some on the concrete manholes further up after you cross Rustenburg Rd. Anybody have any other places anthills need to spring up or be enlarged?
  18. Got to go to the airport. Rode this morning though! Spruit was deserted so could thrash it back to Fratellis
  19. I think I saw you. Was about halfway betwen Tana and the new gym on Rustenburg Rd. Only clicked 3 people, blue bars about 10s later and I was long gone!! Will keep an eye out in future. Will be keen to get some rides with people more into trail/freeride. My mates are going the 29er jeep track route and are boring!!
