  1. Looks like my Assoss experience was quite different to others. Bought mine at Northcliff cycles in September last year and at the Argus noticed the inside of the thighs were worn through. While my bike was at Northcliff for work I showed the damage to Alex to find out why this has happened. Turns out its the rails on the seat that stick out too far. Common problem apparently and only option was to get a new seat and redo a bike fit. So I accepted it was my fault and had to sort it out. I then stumbled on the Assoss web site and the repair policy. I contacted them and submitted photos and their response was simply to contact the bike shop that sold them. I didnt want a freebe or replacement but to buy a repair kit but that unfortunately wasnt available. So I took them to my local tailer and he sourced some lycra and sowed them onto the inside to at least give me some more life. A few weeks down the line now and shorts are ok. I have now started seeing his on another pair of shorts (ProXsision) - but on these shorts it took 2 years - not 5 - 6 rides. Still need to sort out the seat but this will require a new seat post as well.
  2. My first time doing this race and really loved it. Happy with my ride. I was warned that the head wind would hurt and it did until I got back into a bunch. Really lekker fast finish after the Walkerville hill. Learnt a lot about bunch riding.
  3. I did a 4:01 in 2019 (started in the second last group) and then a 3:41 last year so hoping for 3:30 this year. I got into a nice group last year down the M1 with that terrible head wind and lost them at Kyalami so the tail wind was most appreciated for the trip back. Hoping its not too hot as well as that just drains energy. Had a really crap winter but picked up the twice a week spinning classes 3 weeks ago and long rides on the weekend so I can really feel the strength and fitness coming on.
  4. So for the 2019 Ride Joberg 947 (I was a newby) I had a goal of 4 hours. My Garmin was set to auto pause and as I came accross the finish line I was on 3:57 ish on the computer and ecstatic to have met my goal - only until the results came out and my time was 4:01. Rookie error!! So agree elapsed time is only really important in timed events.
  5. I have the 530 and love most things about it except the synching with Garmin Connect on my iPhone. Worked brilliantly for a while and rides were synched within a few seconds of finishing the ride. Now i have to open Garmin Connect on my phone and wait maybe 5 min to synch. Once it does, then no issues after that.
  6. You can also try the Peak Triathlon team. My cousin races with them and I join them occasionally they welcome anyone. Lots of woman riding and not only Tri. They generally ride cradle from either Broadacres or Pedal and Sprocket. I can put you in touch if you are interested.
  7. We often ride PWC in the mornings before work. Opens at 6 in summer.

    947 Ride Joburg

In 2019 I did 4:01 and have now been seeded in J group. Was quite surprised because don't think i can do much better than 4 hrs. Looking at the profile the challenge for me will be not riding too hard for the first 60km, to leave some legs for the uphill last 40km.
  9. Where you guys park if you want to ride Breedts? I have ridden it many times on the motorbike but would like to give it a go on my MTB.

    Cycle4Cansa 2021

Event definitely cancelled/postponed. I suspect this is due to low entries and not COVID. I have finally received an email from the organisers. At least Sun city have agreed to refund the accommodation. These times are so damned uncertain. you just cannot commit to anything at the moment.

    Cycle4Cansa 2021

I am very disappointed with the organisers of this event. I have emailed them countless times, called their number, posted to their FB site and never an answer or response. Today I went into their web site and now see the dates are TBC. I presume this means event postponed. I would think that entries are entitled to an email explaining what is going on.

    Cycle4Cansa 2021

Hi All, I am more of a MTB'er and but did the last 94.7 and will do this years race - if it happens. I have entered the Cycle4Cansa 103km on the 21st of August and have booked the family in at Sun City for the weekend. Hoping for some warm weather for a change. I am a bit worried that there is no news or chat about this race. Makes me wonder if it is going ahead. Anyone else on this forum that has entered? FB site hasnt posted anything since Oct 2020 and no emails from organisers etc. Thanks for any input.
  13. I bought a pair of slates about 2 or 3 years ago and really like them. I bought a second pair a few weeks ago from a guy that bought the wrong size. Done about 4000km in the first set on MTB and Road and very happy. I have taken a few tumbles on the MTB and the ratchet mechanism seems to move and not work - but easily fixed by just moving it back into position. I am impressed at how tough they are.
  14. Thanks, hadn't tried the Strava way so will definitely give this a go.
  15. Technical question to those that create city routes and navigate with a GPS. I use a Garmin 530 and recently created a nice route on Basecamp, around northern JHB. Downloaded the route and followed it as best as I could but there were problems. Eg: road closures, garmin maps doesnt know about these so that was a bugger up. Then I didnt know it at the time but while creating the route it indicated a turn into street then immediate u-turn. I was zoomed in too much and made the turn, only to realise I had to make a u-turn again. I then remembered back to my enduro motorcycling races a few years ago where I used two GPS's for navigation in Lesotho (one zoomed in and one zoomed out). We learnt quickly to create tracks and not routes (to avoid auto rerouting etc). We just tried to stay as close as possible to the track. I know GPS's are now used in races like Sani2C so I would like to know whether people use routes or tracks? Does anyone else have these issues? Any other tips? Thanks

I am also keen to find out. Wont be right if previously paid entries are not acknowledged. I have read through the rules and no mention of this. They have had my money since Jan 2020.
  17. My wife and I both use the Ryder Concept 900's and we have been using them for about a year. We ride in the pitch dark sometimes and these work great. They have 4 brightness settings and last about 1.5hrs on the brightest setting. The nice thing is that they use standard lithium ion 3.7V 18650 batteries so we always carry a spare set. Spare batteries are cheap if you look around. We have never had a problem with them falling off either. For the rear i just buy cheap R100 lights at sportmans wearhouse and replace batteries when needed.
