  5. apologies if there are already threads about this topic but i was wondering what rims are out there suitable for DH that don't cost an arm or a leg?? Are the dartmoor raider rims on dial'd bikes any good? (http://dialdbikes.co.za/dartmoor-raider-rim.html) what about the syncros grudge rims on buycycle?   8. Took my downhill bike in on Saturday, having my boxxer front shock rebuilt.... getting it back tomorrow (Tuesday)! Can't wait to get it back, and after reading this thread i will give some feedback but expecting great things

AHA so that's why my brakes vibrate while stopping!! one major issue solved with the help of another!! great success! all I'm gonna do is remove the gold little cylindrical washer, turn the silver one around, sand down that little lip, hope they line up and go ride! perfect! thanks err'body! edit: as you can see i use avid with ashima rotors, 180mm
  12. aaah okay thanks guys... i wanted to just 'boer maak i plan' but these being my brakes i was a little hesitant! and rex because of this i'm not getting 100% stopping power plus i tend to wobble my rotors under hard breaking... now i know why... you guys think i can just sand that little lip down with sanding paper?
  13. thing is that 'washer' is a hollowed out swivel little part that fits into the silver part, which helps align the calliper, and you can't have one without the other....
  14. when i checked my brake pads this weekend i discovered that the surface is not completely covered by the rotor. there is a small sliver that is not worn down (see attached photo). so this means i need to move the whole calliper closer to the wheel, but how do i do this? is my current brake adapter and or bolt stack wrong? im running 180mm rotors and bought the adapter at my LBS and they assured me it is the right one? (or is it ) Please help

  17. Trying to find a manual so that i can maybe service it myself... Good idea bad idea? Wanna see if i have the correct pressure and spring. Trying to set the bike up correctly. Also i dont know if the shocks need a service. I think its a 2009 cannondale

Hey guys Trying to figure out what year model this rear shock is so that i can download the owners manual for it. i know it's a manitou 4 swinger 4 way... dunno the year though... also want to find out what spring is on there and if it's right for my weight... please help guys, it needs some attention. thanks!
  19. you talking bout that chicken meshed downhill slope type thing? Hardly a drop off, more like a steep gradient slope just shift your weight back a bit, cover the rear brakes, hand off of the front, exhale a little just before going down (helps you relax), don't tense up, and enjoy
  20. no rocks but now that you mention it it might be worn thin, coz i've had it for probably 3 years now? and i like endos and all that jazz... is 3 years life out of a rotor good or bad?
  21. tried truing the rotor last night. didn't achieve much without the proper tools. so then i placed it on the stove. That helped a bit. but the whole disc is mangled. more than one place where it is bent up and or down. so i'm gonna have to buy a new one. but that got me thinking why did it bend in the first place? so yeah i grabbed a hand full of front brake, leaned back and the wheel didn't lock up. so lots of force on the front. but will it not happen to my next rotor as well? and some might say just don't brake that hard again but then i'm sorry whats the point of strong brakes? maybe it was just a cheap crappy rotor? Running a 180mm Ashima with avid elixxer 3. any comments?
  22. Thanks guys, will try the shifting spanner with a thin clean cloth between the spanner and rotor. If that doesn't work I'll put it on the stove (what could possibly go wrong)
  23. Hey hubbers, Any of you guys know how to straighten / flatten warped disc brake rotors? the best solution i could come up with was to place the disc under a heavy book any help would hopefully save me the cost of buying a new one fanx

  25. I decided to get some decent UST tyres before going tubeless. Looking for mountain king 2.4 or similar UST. So after i wrapped my rim with two layers of duct tape, and failing at installing the piskriek 2.1 UST tyre, I re installed a new tube, gooied some baby powder, and put in some slime. Pumped it up hard and it held great during the race on Saturday. But there are some amazing advice in this topic, even had a few PM's so im sure ill come right once we go tubeless
