  1. I tend to ride on the top, not the drops. But... this weekend I went out with some youngsters (both in their teens), I had to keep a stupid average power more than them (not NP), to finish in the same time. And I'm not actually heavy (anymore) the one (a tall boy), (me+ 20kg) = my Avg Pwr - 20w the other (youngster) = me - (10-15kg) = my AvgPwr - 50w They are very focused on technique, to the point of engaging lats and core with proper position and push pull technique when doing standing sprints.... Drops? yeah most likely! edit: might have to install a chin rest on the stem and pillion footpegs (for my hands) on my fork edit2: They have crank based power meters (I know one is left only), and mine is a hub based PowerTap, so power on the crank vs the axle stories...
  2. Sunday, Schoemansdrift. The bridge is closed again, 10 Vaaldam sluices opened today
  3. I would love to do this, but I think we have a FS Gravel Champs event on 30 May
  4. Yep. 30th
  5. 16 May?
  6. I used to be a FutureLifer before a race. Now I'm taking Tiger Oats (the big flakes, blue box) with raisins, chia seed and honey
  7. I could not get to 90g/hr on the 2:1 ratio. Stomach was not happy with me. Since changing to a ratio of 5:4 (1:0.8 / 10:8), a.k.a. Maurten's ratio, I can easily handle 90g/hr, and have even bumped it up to 120g/h - which seems to be the new 'learning spot' for my GI tract. So, if anybody has an issue with carbs causing some 'GI distress', it might be worthwhile upping the fructose to get to the 5:4 ratio. Also, remember that plain old sugar is close to a 50:50 ratio (lets call it 5:5) already, so any malto will drag that 5:5 ratio (close to 5:4) back down to 2:1 Costs? Earlier this year I calculated that a bottle with 90g of carbs using some or other (forgotten now) Biogen tub would have cost me > R70 of mix. With a malto and fructose DIY mix, about R22. Plain old sugar? About R5 a bottle. Salt is dirt cheap these days. Add as much as you like or can handle. Not going to go down the osmolality rabbit hole though ๐Ÿ™ƒ
  8. LMNT published this: How to make LMNT's electrolyte drink mix at home - https://science.drinklmnt.com/electrolytes/best-homemade-electrolyte-drink-for-dehydration/ Personally, I grind some coarse rock(pink) or sea salt depending on preference into either a mixture of maltodextrin & fructose or into plain table sugar. I then add flavouring to taste ('m stuck on some lemon juice) I also take a daily magnesium supplement at night. After 480 hours of training and 'racing' this year, no cramps (yet!)
  9. Youโ€™ll be very familiar with the 50 by the top. You might wish for something smaller than the 32 before the finish. And long for a lighter bike as you push yours through the switchbacks into thin air.
  10. I see myself there towards the finish. You guys were were the motivation I needed to keep my own pace high after my puncture. Good ride! Nice video!
  11. I rode (puncture took the 'race' away) in VF, and my number board was taken basically before I had my feet on the ground. R60 of plastic 'gone' apparently
  12. What is the thing with the number boards? For a lot of people these were removed at the finish, but then there were plenty on bicycles loaded on cars leaving the venue. What gives?
  13. Ag nee man. "I" can balance my Kickr on tennis balls, whilst doing a virtual e-group ride, and now you want to tell me that "I" don't have skillz ... Seriously, yes it is very true, not only for the e-cycling crowd! Even for those of us stuck in the 'platteland', where a "group ride" involves 3-6 mountain bikes on a gravel road with gaps wide enough to make u-turns with an Atos.
  14. 9km from the finish I discovered some porridge in my rear tyre. Unfortunately it cost me some time. Amazing how a lost 10 minutes can change a race from okay-ish to very ho-hum
  15. @Petty managed to get entries yet?
  16. Earliest start time Iโ€™m ever going to attemptโ€ฆ 5:55 means more head wind than starting at 7:00
  17. Venterskroon & Schoemansdrift. Fun morning on the hardtail! ๐Ÿšต๐Ÿผ
  18. I responded to an Advendurance message, and was emailed my starting time & batch. It'll be an early morning for me
  19. There is no MTB race this year
  20. No idea on starting time or speed, but here goes; 32km/h starting at 07:00
  21. That menu button is annoyingly sticky, once it is stuck, youโ€™re stuck with it. iOS 26
  22. Thanks, The people who took my 14th in my age cat in a Trailseeker marathon and turned it into a 6th last for the half marathon. The people who could not fix it, even after numerous requests (and interventions by people in the industry) ๐Ÿ˜’ I see a number there, not sure how it'll translate to a batch in RideJhb. Will wait for the "influx of late entries" to be processed.
  23. I was promises all kinds of comms wrt final seeding result, but the organisers seem to have gone quiet. anybody with any info on when/where/how/what to obtain final seedings results ?
  24. Notice the non-electronicness and sheer lack of cables. Limit screws are set so RD just hold chain on A (one) gear. Most important function the RD performs here is chain tensioning
  25. Had something like that on Friday. Found the fit file in the MyWhoosh folder of the phone I used to drive the ride
