    Geek funnies

  2. I'm 4 months and a bit short of qualifying for membership, but I see "only" 6, where are the others? Like ALL the MTBs...?
  3. You are just a weekend warrior. No need to snake around SBR. At least you will be posting a substantially faster time than mine. Even more so than in in 2013 when you finished over 7 hours ahead of me
  4. so much irony. unrotated photos to highlight/complain about/poke fun at shoddy workmanship. my neck hurts. what were we supposed to have seen?
  5. Just keep on running, and do not chase a target pace. Your pace is what YOUR pace is. Your body AND mind need to adapt to running faster. The mind is impatient, but the body is punished by the running mistress if the mind rushes her. Once in a while, maybe once a week?, do little surges (not sprints) during your runs. For example, if you run at 7:00/km, try and do non-downhill sections (a few hundred meter, not kilometers!) at 5:30 to 6:00/km. Try and run hills as well, but do no do sprints up the hills (yet). Obviously hills are good for strength, and strength (and leg speed) is required for speed. But first the hills Don't do this during your longer runs as long runs are all about steady effort.
  6. Hi, my name is not Pete. I like riding and running and reading and r...
  7. Absolutely! Compete against yourself. The simple truth about that is that even if you want to beat a faster competitor, or your own time, you still have to first go faster than you've done before (in effect beat yourself)! So look in the mirror for your competition, because THAT is the guy you have to beat.
  8. Any perceptions you have of increasing training tempo or volume based on cycling habits will only lead to injury when applied to running. Be gentle with running, she is a tough mistress to have and demand utter respect and gentleness. Treat her right and the rewards are massive. Not, and you are in for lots of misery
  9. for a first, with a finish and not a place as the target I assume, all you need to do is run. If you are not at 20km/week yet maybe aim for a 15km race like the one at Wits. If you are hitting 20+ a week consistently, just start adding mileage S-L-O-W-L-Y Make sure you start doing a long run (relative to where you are) once a week. For a half you should be fine with a longest regular run of around 15km. Forget about about speed work or funky techniques or special programs. Just run. Regularly. Without fail. If you fail to run a day, don’t sweat it, carry on the next day as what is lost is lost. Running is a game of perseverance, not special techniques.
  10. Never was said the next time the record is broken it will be at sub 2 hrs, but I see a sub 2 marathon in the foreseeable future. Maybe still in my natural life time
  11. What is the treatment plan? ice packs and rolling with cricket/golf balls?
  12. All this talk of a sub 2 marathon no being possible (in the next 30 years, or ever, or without chemicals).... 4 minutes in the mile was also seen as a barrier, but then it got smashed by Roger Bannister on a windy day on cinders.... And now more than 1400 athletes surpassed that! The sub 10 second 100m was also a pipe dream. Now 136 athletes have gone under 10 seconds These man-made numbers are not barriers, but mere targets. The right combination of aptitude, attitude and motivation WILL break current 'barriers' I cannot wait!
  13. Evan is soo cool he can do it all himself!
  14. I've had a major off (OTB) myself in which I literary head planted: I blacked out, had a cracked helmet, shattered collar bone, 4 fractured ribs. I tried getting back ASAP but realised I wasn't handling the effort well. Backed off for a few months and waited for the body and head to heal up. Time off gives you perspective as well! Take it easy and do forget about the whole cyclist vs footballer, we are so tough thing. No need to pretend injury, but no need to fake health either! Heal up and there is no need to emulate the proverbial "I am tough and know better" guy, who suffers from the initial silent consequences of his early injuries later in life
  15. met geboorte uit die ginekoloog se hande geval, op die kop? ???? [emoji88]

According to my results, my KOM profile matches withMark Cavendish Mark Cavendish So, climbs are exactly 20% of my KOM segments Short climbs represent 20% of my KOM segments Flat segments are 60% of my KOM segments Hahaha! Only thing I agree with is that I fade on climbs.... And he has seen the light, and he now also sits up in sprints for the line
  18. And roadies don't hate on MTBers  26ers don't hate on 29ers
  19. Will my son take offence if I post his photo here?
  20. Do we care about rats, shod or not?
  21. All helmets (via official channels) comply with the same safety standards, hence they offer the similair protection. Just make sure to replace your helmet after impacts / falls / age. Do not to do the following: Buy second hand helmetsBuy unknown brandsBuy helmets that came in via 'unofficial' channelsBuy helmets from cheap (knock-off?) online markets - ali-express / bangood / wish, etc
  22. Does the shoe fit?
