  1. DIY malto:fructose mix in 5:4 ratio. Generally at 90g per bottle. Add table salt to taste. I have taken the malto+fructose up to 100g per bottle with no side effect. 120g per bottle makes me feel a bit queasy, but that concentration is strictly not necessary, I just do not push enough watts for that! For shorter training rides I just pour 60g of white sugar in each bottle (castor sugar if you do not like vigorously shaking your bottles), also with a dash of table salt. For longer training rides: I usually take 1 or 2 PVM energy bars along For races: I also whatever gel I can get my hands on (USN / Biogen mostly). Must admit that Maurten goes down and "feels" like it works, better. I also have a post breakfast PVM bar on the way there For that little race in Midvaal during Feb where I had to do 129km, I used 198 of my DIY mix, and 2 Maurten& 2 USN Vooma gels. Think it worked out to 86grams of carbs per hour. I had no 'gastric distress', no bonk, no cramps either. Straight after the race? yeah a PVM bar! Chocolate milk, coke, banana
  2. They must first catch me on the downhills and flats 😁
  3. Train harder to rider faster. Insist on making the rides long enough to flatten an ebike battery. Make sure there are hills at the end.
  4. Silver rims. When last did I see any of those on a non-vintage bicycle?
  5. Anybody willing to clone bestercoaching.com onto worstercoaching.com?
  6. The UCI extended his ban globally. Read this: https://www.cyclingsa.com/uci-extends-shaun-nick-besters-ban-globally/
  7. At least add tyre size: 2.35" / 2.4" 2.6" / 30c / 50c. Maybe wheel size - although this could be seen as unnecessary. Not many 650b, 26" / 27.5" options out there anymore (maybe just my myopic view?)
  8. It does not keep history, but I keep tyre pressure settings for various bicycles in Wolftooth's BikeTirePressure. Have a look at it for various units of measure. How about the option to add gravel / road bicycles as well... I know, rigid, but still!
  9. Yes, appealed. Bester and his legal team appealed the decision of the 2023 CSA disciplinary inquiry. SASCOC then appointed an independent appeal panel, delivering their ruling in 2024. His life-long ban was reduced to a 15 year ban - https://www.cyclingsa.com/cycling-south-africa-shaun-nick-bester/ And now he went lost his appeal against that in the high court. edit:spleling
  10. Minors to protect. Sadly to proceed with criminal charges in cases like these (especially involving minors), will only open sore wounds ago, letting the victims relive trauma. It has nothing to do with a strong case. The case was strong, it was rigorously tested by the accused, using all possible avenues. All tests failed.
  11. Also then you race against your peer group, like-minded people, no hot headed youngsters around you
  12. Just ride, I mean, race licensed. No seeding anxiety at all.

  16. Does "The All-Terrain-Bicycle might be the next big thing in cycling." mean it now needs a proper downhill fork?
  17. Same here. I'm on 170s on the gravel bike. Want to move the other bicycles (at least road) to 165mm for exactly the same reason!
  18. Hip cartilage degeneration due to massively high dosages of cortisone decades ago to stay alive as a 20ish year old. Need to look after the bit I still have left.. kinda
  19. I had a hip labrum repair last year. The surgeon also had to shave the bone a bit so it will not impinge anymore. I still have a click in the hip when I'm tired, but I'm still riding. I'm not allowed to run anymore. My labrum repair op really was just to buy some time on a hip replacement 😕 My labrum repair was done by Dr de Wilde at Wilgeheuwel.
  20. Reading the Combined Provincial Championship Technical Handbook (I expect the WC Champs rules to be much of a muchness): Licenses: The Championship is an open Provincial Championship for any Province in South Africa. Podiums will only be awarded to Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Free State riders who have applied for and were issued with a Cycling SA Full Racing License for 2025. There will be 5 different podiums for the various provinces. The U/11 – U/17 categories require only Cycling SA membership.
  21. Welcome to read the CSA Road Cycling Handbook. Chapter 9. It just arrived in my 'mailbox' https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:EU:093ee9c0-1eea-4a6f-b0da-a2de000209bf
  22. Day license is only applicable to cyclists who are not CSA members. If you are a CSA member (not a day license), you can elect to purchase racing license which makes you eligible to participate in national champs, also (upcountry in big races at least) to be seeded in the racing bunches.
  23. same as for inter-provincials up-country on same weekend (Y)
