  1. i'm 28 and started cycling in Jan, swimming in Apr, running in May this year after 4 years of no activity (expat work). left the running until last, because i felt to heavy to run and brought my weight down from 90 to 73kg. I'm in the best condition i've ever been and now this happens had a bit of ITBS when I ran in 2003/4, but nothing serious because I never did it full-on like now i suspect the meniscus tear happened in rugby at school (1999) and I stopped playing becuase the knee would pop out the whole time from the sounds of it, i should cancel all my events for 2010 and just focus on the 70.3 and ironman
  2. thanks super mil i'll take the recovery as serious as race preparation and make sure it's done properly just a bit negative at the moment
  3. I went to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday to get cortisone injections in my knees for ITBS and I found out I have a meniscus tear in my left knee as well. I’m going for a MRI scan on Friday to determine the severity of the tear to determine what type of operation I will have (removal of cartilage or repair of meniscus) I want to know if anyone had a similar operation and what kind of recovery period I’m looking at I’ve entered the following events and need to know which to scratch of my list post-op 31 July - PPC half-marathon 28 Aug – Potberg MTB/Trial run 19 Sep – Karoo to Coast 30 Sep – 2 Oct – Renosterveld MTB 12-14 Nov – Whines2Whales 5 Dec – Die Burger Fietstoer 19 Dec – Jailbreak I’m not listing my 2011 races, because if I can’t do those then I’m selling all of my gear
  4. I started with a 2010 silverback sierra, but with my renosterveldMTB and whines2whales entries came the realization that I will need a full suspension so I bought an anthem x frame and built the parts over The anthem x frame cost R10,500 and the sierra cost R11,000 and it’s spec’d between an anthem x1 and 2 so I would buy the silverback and the anthem x frame. Build the parts from the silverback onto the anthem x and sell the silverback frame and maybe upgrade the brakes or the shock
  5. unfortunately i gym at VA cape gate, otherwise i would have joined you
  6. bicycling for road cycling tread/ride for mtb triathlete sa and 220 triathlon for tri
  7. I carry a spare tube and a packet of jolly jammers (jolly jammer wrapper is cheaper than R20), never had to use it though....touch wood
  8. conti gatorskin at high pressure
  9. ceepo viper for the tri-letes
  10. Feltcrazy, I'm in the same situation. I'm leaning towards buying a second hand TT bike extra, because I still want to do road races and most road races don't allow TT handlebars The problem is the cash to buy an extra bike. If you convert your roadbike (change seatpost and attach cinelli bars) then you still dont have a proper TT bike Lets hope there's some hubbers that can assist, I'll be following this thread closely Good luck Sloet
  11. Indola for MTB 2XU for Road Cycling
  12. i'm with moegoe on this one lost a few gears in last weeks 9to5 at delvera and didn't even notice it, in fact with the granny and donkey gone my lap times got better
  13. from my experience alot of cyclists take pride in the brands they purchase, so i'm a bit sceptical about the fact that there's no branding on the bike you won't take the badge of your car...unless it's 1.3L with a massive exhaust that only makes a 'geraas' to make people think that it's 2.0L or you've stolen the car sprayed it and now want to sell it i can be completely wrong and this might be a great deal, but that's the chance we take looking for deals good luck and be safe...and if you can't be safe, wear protection
  14. looks very interesting, thanks for sorting out my lunchtime reading for the rest of the week
  15. who-hoooo, i'm sure i'm more excited about BeOne's delivery status than he is
  16. gonna get me one of the cervelo sets, let us know how the orders progress (delivery, duties, etc)
  17. I ride the Bottelary road every weekend, but try to ride after 9 so there is more movement/traffic on the road. Luckily no bike-jacking this far. A friend's friend had three attempted bike-jacking's in the space of 500m on the Bottelary road in January (don't know the time of day), got away but not the guy behind him that got pushed of his bike. The perpetrators fled with nothing, because a vehicle stopped to assist the rider. Also ride Koeberg quite often, but never alone Great thread, but try and focus on the purpose of the thread (identifying "hot-spots") and start a new thread to complain about the crime condition in the country
