  1. Agreed, you need to take care of your mental capacity and that is something many athletes really get wrong. You need to `want` to run in March/April - just slogging through will cost you in May. I`ve always felt that one shouldn't `race` a marathon in March/April/May as the recovery afterwards eats into your quality prep time. Qualify in Nov/Dec if you can - take a little break to recover physically/mentally and then drive really focused from mid Jan onwards. I was also a bit fan of quality over quantity and went to the line as a novice with only about 1000km on the legs for the year - in hindsight, I think I would have been better off with 900km but more quality work. Listen to your body rather than chasing miles - you need to stay mentally fresh to get the best out of your training.
  2. Yip - they ran out - apparently it will be sent off next week. If i may be a douche - Stretch, I think that 2015 medal look `the tits` - would swap my 2016 for a 2015 anytime. But neither there nor here - its still sub 9, Ill take it with a smile! Last 5km was run on anger and fear of missing BR exclusively!!!!!!
  3. Hey Stretch - yea baby - managed to sneak in there. Not an easy day at all - knew I was in for a long day when by Ashburton I was feeling tired and uncomfortable. Locked it down and pulled Rule #5 all the way to the sea. Was on that 6min/km from Umkumaas already - would win time on the down and loose it on the up hills. At 15km to go I had 1min in the bag if I could keep 6min/km - hard going. Decided not to look at the watch after toll gate. Took a final look at 1km to go and had 11min to do it. Stopped to say hi to my family at ICC and finished up. No medal yet - apparently they will courier it off. long ass day to spend in the hurtbox!!!!
  4. Lekka Stretch!!!!!!! See you somewhere along the line bra!!!
  5. Just find the app `UltimateLive` in the app store - search for the athlete`s name and follow them there.
  6. If I can get a driver Ill come pick your ass up mate!!!!!!!! Coffee on Sat sounds wicked. lets sort out times closer to date!!!!
  7. @Stretch - da flu is over and gone - started running last week again. Did some good track & tempo work and took it easy on the last long (20km) run over the weekend. Legs are starting to come back - felt good on the tempo`s this morning. So now we need to finish up the week with a 15/10 over the weekend. Next week the volume gets turned down. Driving to Hilton on Thursday night - will work in a 5km on Fri & Sat and Sunday we run to the beach. On a side note - anyone driving from Hilton to the start? We can use my bus an fit more people in - just need to get the bus returned to Mrs & the little Butchers.
  8. Getting the itch now. Been out of the running shoes the last week with flu but rather now than 3 weeks from now. Just want to get it over with so I can start the taper - will also make me feel better to get some tar under the trainers. Getting close now boys! Seems like I will line up with just about 1200km on the legs - hoping they will be fresh and eager on the day. See you boys at the beach!
  9. Hey Stretch - not at the back - very much at the front. I was really happy about my 42km split at Loskop - 03:47 and this included a rum/walk strategy + 2 x `Taking the bears to the super bowl` stops. My qualifier at Johnsons was only 03:44. Coming through 27km i decided to run steady and managed a negative split - 02:20 over the first 25 and 02:08 over the last. So my startegy of 05:40/km with a 90 sec walk every 10km seems well within reach. Just 10 more days of big miles ( in human terms) 95km + per week and then we start hearing the voices. Its on now Chaps!
  10. Had a good run this weekend at Loskop with it being my first official Ultra. Started out very conservatively and ran with a friend up until 27km where she was taking strain. I ran on comfortably and saw with 10 to go that a sub 04:30 was on the cards - opened it up a little an caught the sub 04:30 inside the finish shoot. Very happy with a 04:28 on the day - a good confidence builder. Doing the Magnolia club run next weekend as a social km builder and then its time to wind up the mind. How did everyone else go?
  11. Yip - 44 days to go. Doing Loskop this weekend with a 20 on Sunday and next week is the Magnolia run. Im sitting on 900km for the year so far and its been constant so no injuries or illness so far - so very happy about that. Will be working on my pacing strategy form here on out - hoping to lock it down! Its getting tight Lads - almost time to start watching the weather predictions!!!!!
  12. @Ferret - I like where your head`s at! Been doing something fairly similar - hoping it works out!!!!
  13. The noose is starting to tighten!!!! Sh#@t just got real! Everyone is planning, doubting, rationalizing ect - love it. Anyone in for Om die Dam on Sat? Should be interesting to see how the legs cope after last week. 2 weeks for OMTO. Another month or so for Loskop. And then a trot to the beach! Anyway we can arrange a Fredo`s stand at the finish???
  14. Im not the kinda guy to tell you `Told you so........` Proper run Stretch! Looks like I found a spot in Hilton - will try an meet up the day before for a `howzit`.
  15. Knock it out boy! The history is in the legs and judging by your avg pace in training this should be no more than a tempo hard run - nothing suicidal. Check your splits - steady on the gas - last 10 will be a bit more work but leave some matches for it. Let us know how it went! Easy C for you!
  16. Hey Stretch, I`ve been having the exact same thing - felt great last weekend on a 30km, did hill repeats on Wed an felt understandably tired - struggled on Thursday and did physio in the afternoon. Legs felt heavy heavy on Fridays tempo set - Sat I was down like a dog - crazy tired. Felt better on Sunday but within the first 3km of our 30k I knew it was going to be a long day out - dragged my ass home and slept. Dosed up with some recovery and reloaded the system. Legs are still a bit sore but MUCH better today - maybe just a bio rhythm thing? Good luck for the weekends qualifier - what are aiming for? C batch or sub 03:30?
  17. Ok Boys - hands up, who is going Sunrise Monster and/or Om die Dam? What times are you looking for?
  18. @Karlito - go see Marilie Lombard Bio in Monument Park - tell her Vince sent you. She sorted out my problem in about 3 weeks. Now its running Pain Free!!!
  19. Did JC yessterday as my firts Marathon - not a great day out - was strangely hurting by 17km aleady even at steady pace - managed to clock my 10,20 and 30km markers but then started losing time. Was aiming for a C-batch seeding and ran hard at it with 2km to go - body revolted with hamstring being the sacrificial lamb. Walked it off and jogged in missing the 03:40 by 4min. Disappointing but we`ll take it from here.
  20. Here is the plan : 31/01 - Johnson`s 42 - qualifying 13/02 - Bronkhorst 32 - Simulation race pace 28//02 - Delloitte 42 - Just HTFU and time on the legs - no racing 05/03 - Sunrise Monster 32 - HTFU and time on the legs- no pace 16/04 - Om die dam Ultra - Check out the expected race pace 01/05 - Wally 42 - Expected race pace -15sec/km 29/05 - Race day - HTFU, KD factor and get it done. I have 1 or 2 backups for qualifying in case something goes wrong. Dont want to have to race anything longer than 21 after March. Well, thats the plan.
  21. I saw this morning : Phobians Deloitte 28 Feb 10km, 21.1km, 42.2km For those who want to come run in Pta. From what I understand it is not a course to try for a fast qualifying time - but it will build character.
  22. Never underestimate the impact of stress on you system. Know it, deal with it, respect it and work around it. Some times a day of `playing` on the bike can do wonders - don't try and run it out. Find something that can act as an emotional `valve` without hurting the body!
  23. Yesterday was crazy hot - we did a long run through Pta - came back over Klapperkop and it was HOT and that was only 08:00! Good work to hang in there Jigg, will be there on the next one - either Johnson`s or Akasia. You boys ready for Though One?
