  1. Dude - its Pta - Trust no one!!! Before you get into your car - take a 360 look, get in and lock your doors, then start the engine, then pay the car guard if you deem it needed. Glad you got out OK. Heads up mate!
  2. The question is will we hear the other side of this story? What is the harm if you have nothing to hide? Watch this space
  3. I`ve seen the insulation tape and old valve core installed and woked very well. I guess the BMX tube should work better and can not be that difficult to find. Otherwise get a BMX tube - cut out the Schroder valve as small as possible and cut an overlapping Presda and fit it through - should work fine since the air pressure presses then against each other.
  4. Its only cause a Spaz ridercan not give way since his rear shock has just blown! - I agree on the Biggest/Most aggressive rule
  5. It seems that almost everyone on this tread rides a 5'' rear travel bike!
  6. I thought MTB was their main target. Looks like anything goes - opertunistic rather that planned!
  7. I find it great for recovery session - you can keep your HR right where you need it to be - total control over it. We as cyclists really neglect our upper bodies a lot so something like super circiut can only do us good. VA has really taken their cycling/spinning seriously and has employed some MTB/Cyclist to do the spinning classes - go and take a look - I`m sure you will find someone with your taste in music/style of riding - great when you are short on time.
  8. You alway need to be carefull especially with big amounts. i`m starting out with small things before I buy a complete bike. If you buy big and you are not able to view it personally I recon the best is have the seller take it to an established LBS, call them on their land line and establish that it is the correct goods. Always get as much detail as possible - no one is scam proof but you can limit the unknow`s
  9. Thanx Lads, Just spoke to Grant - the man is a legend ! Gave me more info than I could hope for and got me stoked to get down there. Dogshow - I`ll put up a post 3 week before i get down there - let see if we can round up a posie!
  10. I`m heading out to Howick/Karkloof for a week in Aug. Does anyone know who I can contact for a group ride or a guide to the local trails. Most of my time there will be spent midweek. Is there a set tail on Karkloof? How long/technical is it? Is there any other options? Is there a LBS who can help me with directions/spares or is the closest PMB. I also wanna do Giba. Any help or idea`s?
  11. Go with the Goose - the frame is strong enough to handle all the mistakes you are going to make starting out!!! Rode mine for 2 years before upgrading - 3 years later bought a Goose again, Meteore Team - Wonderfull bikes
  12. You could take 2 guys off of your sales floor, set up a vitual showroom + online ordering system and then pay the 2 guys for warehousing & workshop + sales incentice or profit share but it`s too much work for all the bike shop owners and they dont want to share profits. They want to control everything and then think up some crap reason not to pay the guys. Grow a simbiotic relationship. These guys could work out of their garage - renting floorsapce in there is much lower than in some to end shopping centre!
  13. The guy that I would recomend was a bike mech for 15 years - even world abroad for a semi-pro team in Europe. He had to change occupation to make ends meet, still does stuff part time our of his garage, which looks better than most shops. Pm me for his detail if you like. This is my personal opinion and recommendation. I`m not saying stop using the bike shops. Use whoever you trust. Hopefully your LBS takes care of you.
  14. There are too many shops and the staff turnover is too high. I have made use of most of them but could never really build up a relationship cause the guy that helped me last time has moved on. Cant really blame the guys, the cash just ain`t good enough to make a living on so they get in student or young guys that move on a few months later. Start working on your own bike - it`s really not that complicated, other than the shock, plus you will be able to spot problems before they happen.
  15. I think Ford Fairlane said it best : Listening to this guys is kind of like mastrubating with a cheese grator ........... Slightly amusing but mostly painfull!!!! Picture is really bad too ......... why did they change it all around. A few years ago you could watch it live with constant highlights! Back to commentators - watched the CPT duathlon last night - the comentator - local lad - quoted " Dancing on the pedals" 3 times in a span of 2 min. Be creative - how about a quote like " punishing the cranks' or 'bringing the noise" or "could make the earth turn with those pedal strokes". Why is is that all cycling/du & triathlon programs have to have horrid presenters?
  16. I just wish they would open up the climb to the radio tower - its a really good climb to train on - long and tech. As Regard said, its good training ground but hard on the bike. Would have been awsome if they could join Fountains and Voortrekker the way they did Fountains/Groenkloof. It would give you a very nice loop with all kinds of terain. Voortrekker is just very hard to race especially when its wet. I recon if they make some more tarils and they get time to set propperly it could be on par with Groenkloof.
  17. I did it about 2 weeks ago. There is quite a bit of rocky Jeep track. They did some lovely single track on the NW side. It was very tight and new and with all the rain it was a little washed as it is still very new. you sometime have the option of the easy jeep track or ruff single track, all very rideable but tricky for the beginers. I came up to 10km for the loop but there are plenty of other options too. R 20.00 entry does not give you as may options as Groenkloof but is a nice change. The start isnt very well marked but you will find it. I`m taking my wife there this weekend. Hope this helps
  18. Let me know how it goes - I`m looking to get one in July/Aug - prop go for the white. This should do really well, specially on the tricky stuff. Love the suss design - less is less.
  19. Im sure some would argue a great diff between commiting an act of sin, enterainment and solicitation. Depends at which angle you look at it
  20. Wash and lube your bike yourself, start with small repairs like setting gears. If something doesn`t look or feel right, find out why. You can do most of your own repairs with R 400.00 worth of tools. Build up your tool box gradually. Check your drive train for wear and replace cables every once in the winter and twice in summer months. Learn to DIY - Preventative maintenance and know-how is the key. Like puberty is come with time, but its worth it!
