  3. Seems like there is no `one size fits all` when it comes to training principals. I'm a big Fan of `have a purpose for every session`. Decide before hand what you want from your specific session - ie, speed, distance, recovery, time? Your history counts big amounts and this where I feel most programs mis the point a bit. They start from ground zero most of the time for non-runners but dont adapt for cyclist/Swimmers ect. Those guys already has a base to work from - but the conditioning needs to be done - especially for Ultra runners. I also find most programs fall into the `miles for the sake of miles` mentality which I don't agree with. Do you need miles? - absolutely YES Could you do better prep than just empty miles? - absolutely YES Which brings me back to - know what you want from your specific session continue building. Know when you want to be at your best - peak - and dont chase race times in the early part of the year. Easy up in your easy week so that you can go hard in your next block - dont go into power work with heavy legs - its only deconstructive.

  5. In unrelated news - I did the Sizwe Motlana 21km on Sun - it started at 12:00 - hot as ballz - something you fellas will have to get use to!!!!!

Personally I feel that starting off with a good riding history is very beneficial for the follow reasons : The low impact has prob made your muscle system stronger - thus minimizing your risk of injury - compared to a non athlete. You already have the `motor` and fitness base so its easier to start building a run base. You know what its like to suffer, and how far you can push yourself. Your spouse will think it is fantastic that you are home more - running vs cycling training times.
  7. In the same boat - been threatening for years, think now is the time. Been focusing more on running since June - great return on time investment with the family. I have integrated riding, swimming, trail running ect into my program to better prepare the body and beat the boredom of mindless miles. The route goes through the town I grew up in - some great memories of watching the race as a kid. Need to do it at some point I guess!

  12. There are diff options - biathlon and duathlon Duathlon is run/bike/run - all in one go Biathlon is run on track - chill out and have beers - then swim a few hours later. Times are combined and point awarded. I will however give you a bonus point for creativity in impudence. Dont take me to seriously

  14. I run Saucony Progrid 3 - Road - 4mm drop, and Saucony Peregine - Trail - 4mm drop. I also have a pair of Adidas ADIzero XT`s - 0mm drop, but after about 15km odd the caves start a barkin`. Think the important thing is to keep the drop similar between the 2 to minimize the chance of injury.

  16. It is a PROPER hard ride. HTFU and do it. You can always walk the run leg if needed! BTW - I know someone looking for an entry but he cant do the full amount - can offer about R 400 if someone is looking to get out of theirs.

  19. At least do some custom work/inscription rather than just a lick of paint. Stage name & profile on the arms or something to make it unique. Dont half-ass it!
  20. I bought one of these - the best if seen so far. My girl is safe and strapped in at all times - I can talk to her while riding and it doesnt damage my frame! Would recommend it to anyone! Especially at R500!

  24. Had a great time out even though my play time was cut a little short. Will prepare better for the next one and will def go the full 6hr then. had to cut home after 3hr. Great track - had a real good time!
