  1. Might actually try that... always down to try some gnar. And I have almost run over many hikers walking up the MTB trails, not sure who told them that was a good idea haha
  2. More gnar in tokai would be awesome! Don't get me wrong, there are some gnarly trails, but an insane DH track would be mint.
  3. I have heard a lot of good things about the avalanche E bike. Pretty sure it is about 28k or so. That is definitely one to consider, also I think getting parts won't be hard as avalanche are a south african brand I beleive?
  4. Really cool tests, thanks Ivan. I have noticed insulation tape definitely does help with some rims. So I do it on all rims that come through, just to be sure. Definitely quality differences between cheap and expensive rim tape that are noticeable. Out of ineterest, what was alu rim 1 and alu rim 2? Just curious to see which rim profile the insulation tape helped with.
  5. Awesome, thanks. Will be using that on my bike build.
  6. Some people don't like how bulky it looks, but for me function over form. The mechanical advantage and double bearings give you the smoothest feel ever. Another bonus is that the guts are sealed from the elements inside the shifter body, so bearings will last forever. I highly encourage everyone with an old/spare front shifter to try this, even if just to learn more about how a shifter works, or even just to say you did it On a sidenote, anyone know how the lyne remote compares to the bikeyoke triggy? (got to choose between them for my new bike build)
  7. My lyne lever has lasted me a year and I have friends who's levers have lasted 4 or more years. The csixx one is a step above for sure, but that is evident from price. The best dropper lever by far that I have ever felt is the xo front shfter than I removed the return spring and ratchet mehcanism from, dual bearing and smooth as butter - and it didn't cost me anything. To each their own. But definitely good work to the boys (and girls) at csixx, some cool stuff coming out of there for sure!
  8. @MarcW any trace of the bike? Or still nothing on your radar?
  9. I used to think this, but then I came to realise you have to make them fun again. Look for the gnarliest lines, huck everything in sight, hit all the A lines. I ride tokai, and dh0 is still technical enough to make the first part loose and kinda sketchy on a hardtail, dh1 has the drop etc. If you look at trails with a different perspective, you might have far more fun. A lot of the 'trails are now boring crew' are saying xc/enduro trails are too boring, but can't ride a black or double black diamond. As soon as I started hitting A lines and finding 'side hits' I had a lot more fun. Happy riding!
  10. Agreed, the difference between select+ and ultimate is nitpicking. Unless you are racing on a high level, it will not make enough difference to justify the expenditure. But go for it if you are dead set on it, nothing like the feeling of upgrading your bike!
  11. The cypher pro already comes with a sidluxe select+, so if you want to upgrade, I reccomend the sidluxe ultimate.
  12. I beleive sidluxe is their best cross country suspension
  13. Nothing special or exotic, but I got an NX derailleur, shifter and chain from Bike Addict, shipped to my door for 2190 rand. Not even sure if they made a profit on that, but outstanding service and pricing
  14. Just how we have been doing it for years. Pretty sure it helps it stick.
  15. Just been taught by the mechanics where I work that insulation tape generally helps it stick better and just helps overall. The way I have been doing it for a while, and luckily never had to redo it once.
  16. On that note, only use 1 layer in stan's rims. Ask me how I know 2 layers is too much haha
  17. I strongly believe E bikers and normal bike riders can get along harmoniously. I personally have met more friendly people on E bikes than not. Yes, sometimes they hold me up on the downhill, but then I will overtake if safe, or wait and leave a gap. I ride for fun and don't chase strava or do events. Occasionally an E biker will blast past on full turbo, no greeting at all. But more frequently I turn it into banter and we both get a laugh, instead of getting hostile/aggressive. I have even been offered a tow on a few occasions (true story). I guess what I am trying to say is just be Lekker, be respectful and have fun. happy riding
  18. Agreed, I have never found it mattered. If done well, any brand or like Koos said, even gorilla tape can work. Just remember to put electrical tape on the rim before you apply the rim tape.
  19. Can't imagine running 11-34 rear and 42/68 front. That's mind boggling. I run a 32 tooth up front and an 11-42 cassette rear and most people consider those hard gears to ride.
  20. That is insane gearing! My biggest gear on my mountainbike cassette is only 42 teeth. No idea how you can run such huge gears. Hats off to anyone running a 68 tooth
  21. Bummer. I was asking where you were on the thread when guys were trying to ask questions.
  22. You can tell they're not titanium, because they have no welds. Also where is OP?
  23. I still believe each of his 4 rides was at least 500 km's
  24. Shimano never made a titanium ultergra crank (at least to me knowledge), maybe one of the other hubbers knows if they did?
  25. Feel stupid now, sometimes hard to detect someone's tone over text lol
