  3. Ok, I have heard via the radio telescope that their will be a INTERGALACTIC SS Championships race for the plant earth on the 2nd April at Rietvlei Farm. This is open to all SS riders ONLY in Africa. For more info go to www.singlespeed.co.za Keep an eye/ear out for more space messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Spoke with them last week, It has to do with Nissan coming on board as sponser for the 1/2 marathon and not wanting to have a clash with MTN. They say that it will be tried for the first couple of races, if it does not work then they may look at going back to what it was and making a plan for different starts finishes?
  5. my 2 cents The logic sounds good but you are only saving on chains. The other componets will still wear out at the same rate as they are not being rotated. The wear and tear on the cassette teeth will always be a constant as it has to do with pressure and friction on those teeth. The contact point on the teeth will be the same with a new chain vs old and will wear out, sometimes even faster with a new chain as the contact point will change. The reason to change chains is as it has been said is becuase of they will streach. Save your money by buying a good chain cleaner to scrub the chain clean then re lube of your choice, and buy a chain wear checker. From experiance having a Race snake for a son, doing all 2010 Nat/provincial marathons and X crountry + other races+ training @ +/- 6000km i have only used 2x chains(did not rotate) 1x cassette, 1 set chain rings. Hope this helps
  6. Most of the pills for Shingles cost a fortune and will stuck up your med aid quickly, if i remember correctly it is over R1000 per pill!!!!! As i said before this old doc told me to just take asprin for the pain, no fancy pain pills just asprin, and it worked? The gap between attacks became bigger up until then using all of the expensive pills it was 3 months like clock work The shingles follow along a nerve to the ending. At least yours is under your hair, mine was always in the middle of my forhead!!!! always looked like the wife had beat me up again for buying bikes/parts. Once the "zits" burst that is the end of the attack though the pain can last a long time after. have a look on the internet ( not US) as there is some good info out there?
  7. Hello, Also suffer with shingles on the left side of my head, What i have learnt over the years and i used to have a break out every 3 months that the very expensive pills for the Zoster only work if taken very early thing is that by the time you realize that you are having a out break it is to late to work. Only thing i have found to work is Asprin and rub on the crean sold for those blisters that come up on your lips every thing else is a waste of money. Also go get a vit B shot and take Vit B every day It is related to Chickin Pox that in some people never leaves the system and sits in the nerve endings, waiting for you to suffer from stress and your body is at its lowest. If it is on your head you must watch out for eye pain as it can cause problems also keep a eye out ( no pun intended)for ear pain as the same virus causes the nerves of the face to be effected which then causes a Bells Pailsy and you will look like you have had a stroke. I know the above sounds bad but i have put up with it for 10 years and the time between out breaks has grown wider in fact i have not had a out break for over a year.
  8. After trying a few different ratio,s i have ended up with a 34x18 which is like a 32x16, but i can climb better and do not spin out on the flats so quickly??? Still have to walk up very steep climbs. Just remember that if you are going for Horizontal dropouts which are best you will need to use different length chains when swopping out ratio,s. If you go for SS Spockets they have deeper teeth so use a SS chain as it sits better on them. Also trying to work out your speed @ 90 rpm is not going to work. i was very surprised at my avg rpm it fell to around 60 for a race, I know being a FOB does not help but thought i was good for at least 80 avg!!!!
  9. Hello, I have been riding 29r F/S for over 4 years after riding 26r F/s for a long time first F/S was a trek Y frame ( a long time ago) I brought a 29r HT this year for SS, that was six months ago and have not touched the F/s since then.( anyone looking for a Gary fisher HiFi Med frame) I am now in the process of writing to Santa for a Cannondale 29r Flash,Pleeeeeease Santa!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Only those that have new carbon niner,s!!!!!!!B**tards
  11. If its "your club" then you make your own rules. As i said the DH guys have done it and have run ther own club(GAS)race series as well as the provincial series very well. If you want to see how well come to there prize giving on the 4th December to see it working
  12. Dangle What would you want from a club???? Most clubs do not offer anything for SS riders, This way you would be able to meet like minded riders and then organize rides races create an identity. It is just an idea!!!
  13. Hello, As their seems to be more SS riders these days, who would be interested in starting a SS only club???? The CGC rules say that we need 20 riders + R650 to regester the club + R75 Affilation fee + R75 licence fee =R182.50 Very cheap than joining some other clubs. The DH riders started their own club last year and it has gone very well. Also if we can get enough riders to commit to riding the provincial XC races then i will make a SS class and award provincial points/colours. We could also have two levels, Grant Usher vs the rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Well you have maded me walk to the garage to check the pricing on the spokes!!! I do not know were you got your pricing for the spokes but i paid R42ea for my 29r spoke,s and that was at the begining of the year before pricing started coming down?
  15. Hello, We have raced two sets of the26" M775 wheels( Nat XC, XCM and other) for the last 3 years and if you look after the bearings they work very well. The alignment does go out but they have hit some large rocks and are still round. I also have the same XT in the 29r and they are great. In this time i have had to replace bearings once and two spokes, yes Coolheat does not have stock now and then but i have brought spares 5 each size so no problems. The best thing with these wheels are the fact that they ARE proper tubless rims!!!!!! no rim tapes. I went for these wheels because i wanted something that was bullet proof and would finish the races, which they have (son won Jnr 50km at 94.7)Took 1/2Hr to grease and put back together night before race. You need 17mm cone spaner and 2 allen keys. You will not go wrong with these wheels
  16. I have heard from a very good source that he fell on the very wide un technical perimeter road!!!! Its so safe it is not even colour coded
  17. I was at the park before your event started doing some training laps and made sure i was finished before you started. You could see that **** was going to happen beer ,un skilled riders what a mix
  18. Go for the Scandal with the horizontal drop outs as you can then go SS, which YOU WILL want to try out when going 29r and it is quick to change over. Run my Scandal both as SS or 1x9 and have not had a need for any more gears (ok on the flats you may spin out) Only other thing is to test ride the frame size first, thought i needed a 18" but ended up with 19.5" and is the best fitting bike i have had.
  19. well i can not belive my luck!!! killing time so went into Mikes Bikes to look at some bling, and staring back at me from one of the display cases was a MRP X.1 chain device, So i did what any man would do swipe that card. So now i have a 1x9 or is it 9x1? anyway will try it out at the time trial at Rietvlei this comming weekend. Now i wont get pasted on the flats spinning like a hamster on crack!!!!!!
  20. :(Thanks for the help on the subject Like big H i also started on a bike with 3 speed via a cable and was adjusted by a small chain which went into the rear axle. Now i feel realy old thinking about how long ago that was
  21. If that is not possible then what is needed to go 1x9 set up?
  22. I know, but that would mean having to multi task which the wife say,s i am no good at!!!
  23. Having now been riding SS for a few months i am having the time of my life again. I was thinking is it posible to set the bike up to have just 3 sprockets at the back? I am running a 32x17 and would like to go lower for the flats and higher for climbs? Any ideas
