  1. I'm 1.78. Had two "Medium" Tallboys with long stems - 115mm. Moved to a Large on my TB2 with a 90mm stem and much happier. (Could probably go even shorter - 80 or 70mm) You're slap in the middle of the Large frame sizing as per the diagram posted - you should be fine with a large. Get bike and enjoy every minute of it, you won't ever ride anything else!
  2. What an awesome day! Wet, muddy, slippery super tough and a great vibe. Hot coffee with marshmallows at the water points, flaming hot sosaties... I still rate it as one of the best races!
  3. That's the one thing that I did not see
  4. Just walked through Solomon's in Pretoria. Nice huge collection of CRAFT "EPIC" Gear on sale. Loads of "Amabubesi" shirts going for under R400 a pop... Asked the friendly lady if anyone can buy these and she said yes - they bought the lot from Craft as a bulk sale and can sell to anyone that they please. I frowned at her reply and got the distinct impression that I was not the first to do so. Ja nee, after this year's debacle with Craft and Epic Shirts I was not expecting anything less from them (Craft). But on the other hand, I was expecting more from the Epic organisers and the "Visionary" that created the race to protect this brand that they have spent so much time and effort to establish. Especially the poor guys that deserve to wear an Amabubesi shirt. Oh well, next year they'll make more money off the guys buying R7k Assos shorts!
  5. Ok, someone needs to send this thread to Doc Jeroen Swart... He's going to really enjoy some of the 'web science' and probably have a fit laughing at some of the comments, suggestions and 'facts'. It would be great to get a "idiot-proofed" reply in layman's terms - bullet form, something that guys that draw pictures for a living (me) can understand! Perhaps even ask him to do an online Webinar for us Hubbers on what is fact, fiction and sci-fi comedy when it comes to nutrition!
  6. Warrantee, warrantee, warrantee... did I mention warrantee?
  7. Lots of scientists on theHub My 2c - works for me. Longer than 3 hrs - 2 bottles of Cadence Marathon + 1 Bottle of Rehidrat (learnt this on Epic from one of the medics - the most underrated 'juice' to chuck into a bottle - I always keep some Rehidrat with me). I also have difficulty eating on the bike, have tried Powerbars, Enerjellies and find that the baby potatoes from Woolies with Aromat works a treat. However - A friend uses ENSURE - yip the ou-tannie-milkshakes, mixed to a thick milkshake consistency in one of those really small bottles that runners use. Have a big swig of this every 45minutes or so and you're fine to go! But, if you're one of the lucky guys to ride the Cape Pioneer this year you'll get perfectly tender ostrich fillet sosaties at the waterpoints... damn those things beat a GU or gel hands-down!
  8. When you get a free bundled "Golf Magazine" with a popular cycling mag the writing is on the wall... Cycling is growing - golf on the decline.
  9. Hi, my name is Deon and I'm a tallboy-holic... Hi Deon... Ok, already said I'm a complete Tallboy nut, fan, groupie... Just finished building up my third one last night and wow - it rides like a dream... Anyone in the market for a much loved, well looked after, 2012/2013 model, Medium, Black? (Lurking in the background of the pic)
  10. If you ride to be in the top 50 in the Epic, go for the S-Works. For anything else, go for the Tallboy - stiff, 100% hassle free, great fun to ride, the BEST suspension for a 29er (if you're not hanging to Sauser's wheel). With Fox's CTD trickery nothing comes close!
  11. Cape Pioneer... not the 'next best', probably the best!
  12. My rules to ride by: Have fun, Don't get too serious, this is not your day job, refer to rule 1, If the route get's really tough (which it will at some point), refer to rule 1 and rule 2, Look in front of you, but don't forget to look around too - you are riding through some of the most spectacular areas in South Africa - where very few people will ever have the privelege to ride, When it gets really wet (cold, hot, etc.), refer to rule 1.
  13. There is a solo category, not too sure about singlespeed though?
  14. Whoohoo, 48 days to go. My third Cape Pioneer in as many years and I have to agree with Kandui - awesome race, atmosphere and route! See you guys in October!
  15. Garmin wins hands down. I have used both and the display on the Garmin is way bigger and easy to use - especially the touch screen!
  16. Get well soon Koos, we're thinking of you!
  17. If you don't tell them I doubt they'd know!
  18. Have a look on STRAVA - loads of routes in the area. (www.strava.com)
  19. Nearly got taken out by two HUGE Boerbulls in the Tierpoort plots area a while ago. The one grabbed onto my shoe and the other one went for my face - I was really, really, really lucky to get away without being chomped to pieces. The owner's gate was not closed. I now ride with a bottle of Pepper Spray just in case. Still ride in the area about 4 to 5 times a week - just keeping clear of that specific road when I'm on my own - which is most of the time. (I've marked the area on Strava as DANGEROUS) Keep your eyes open!
  20. ??? Speak English and tell the hubbers what they should be doing (in your opinion) in normal English that even someone with a PHD can understand and how you can assist them with your training plans. Donner man, hoe moeilik is dit? Or do you like sitting in front of your notebook watching people take the piss out of you post after post? If you just focus you could be spending that time training people... ffs.

  22. Thx Dirk
  23. G-Unit, be prepared for any type of weather. From blistering hot too freezing cold and wet. As Musashi said we had wind last year that blew us backwards on the downhills The Cape Pioneer is a super special race, really looking forward to it - Only three weeks and three days to go!
  24. Hi Azonic - anything will be appreciated! Please mail. Thx,
