  1. Hi Guys, So i've been using Kenda tubes(the ones with the slime already in them)on my MTB, was wondering whether it would be better to buy "plain" tubes and put Sludge or another anti puncture slime in afterwards as i'm not sure how effective the anti puncture in those tubes are? I had quite a few punctures over the weekend, but before that had relatively few while using the same tubes, i also use liners (When you weigh over 100 you dont care abouth the 100g) Any help will be appreciated.
  2. Hi guys, can anyone help me with what the monthly fee is for Virgin Active membership (when you only need access to 1 specific gym). Im thinking of doing some swimming for cross training. Thanks
  3. I've been MTB'ing for about 6 months and am looking for a entry level road bike so that i can mix things up a bit. What should i be looking to spend and which bikes are value for money? will probably only ride the road bike 1 or 2 times a week, and at a few of the bigger road events. It doesn't have to be light, easier for me to lose 2 kg than pay more for 2kg less. Any ideas would be appreciated
  4. try silverback Slider 2011, my lbs said it should be around R10k. decent specs.
  5. MTB of Pad, en hoeveel? Ek is heel vakansie op Struisbaai rond met my MTB
  6. Marlon, I think the best plan would be to join up with Tygerberg MTB Club's slow coach ride at Meerendal on Sunday, it's aimed at beginners and the pace is really relaxed, the guys meet in the Meerendal parking lot. check out their facebook page or send an e-mail to slowcoach@tygerbergmtb.co.za ....and that gentlemen is what you call shameless self promoting of your club
  7. Ok, so i thought it would be interesting to compare car and bike price ratio's. (as we always say we dont have money for a new car) my current car is a 98 Corolla which i bought in my first year of working for 30k, my bike is a entry level hardtail i bought for 6k, this 5:1 ratio, what's your's?
  8. There will be no racial bigatory in this platoon, whites, blacks, indians, chinese, you are all equally worthless in my eyes! more seriously, i will go for a ride tomorrow, and should i find any roadies along the way, i will not greet them, no matter let their children play with mine.
  9. Silverback Slider Hi Guys This is not one of those threads shamelessly promoting Silverback. Yes i did buy a Phoenix 2010 model and i'm happy with it, but i want to get into dual suspension as now that i have started doing the longer races my but is not so happy with the hardtail. Can anyone who knows something about specs have a look at the front and rear shock and tell me how good they are and whether i should rather look for a 2nd hand bike, my LBS said they should retail at about 10K, which is the limit of my budget. Thanks
  10. I did my first race this year at the Willow Creek Mtb with only 2 rides for training. Will never forget how an elderly woman dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, white takkies and a jersey tied around her waist flew past me on the first little climb. I am happy to report that they are no longer doing that though...
  11. I'm also going to be one of the knobs on knobblies. Sounds like it won't be too fast then, will also try and hang on for as long as i can.
  12. I'm always a little suspect when people talk of a slow group. Are we talking 25km/h or 35km/h?
  13. I'll be there. have to spin the legs out after the Oudtshoorn MTB.
  14. as long as you don't let them smoke the devil's lettuce before they reach at least 12.
  15. Really want to get a full sus!
  16. I got myself a Phoenix 2010 model for about 5,300 towards beginning of the year. For it's price it's an absolute beast. You wont be sorry.
  17. Rode past a lady who fell at Die Burger, she was lying on her side and couldn't get her foot out of the pedals. Had to stop and give her a tap on the heel to loosen the cleat. Otherwise she'd probably still be lying there.
  18. My dear Bloubul friends. I never said the race should be held entirely in the Western Cape. What i meant was for instance a start on the garden route, ride up the east coast, work your way over Lesotho. Spend some time in Northern part of the country, then Freestate, road transfer through karoo or northern cape and then finish in Cape Town. I think a finish under Table mountain would be very marketable. If you take 12 stages at 200km a stage you are looking at about 2400 km that we will have at our disposal. If you a a few road transfers in there we should be able to fit almost all the provinces in.
  19. I think best would be to start and finish in the Western Cape. You dont want a situation where you hit the Lesotho mountains after 3 days and then the leaderboard is for all practical reasons over and done with. Maybe throw in a TT or Team TT for good measure. Imagine a Prologue somewhere between Chapmans / Greenpoint or in Knysna. Will make for great publicity for tourism as well. I'm getting excited now.(and i'm also a Mtbiker, not a very successful one I might add)
  20. Hi Guys Im looking for a bike rack that can clip onto a Corolla. Anyone have any ideas on which is best to buy and from whom? I'm in the Cape Town area. Will appreciate any advice. Thanks
  21. i believe the last 2 years are the worst anyways, not that i smoke. Have heard of a lot more husbands that were hitting their wives after a bottle of brandy than a pack of cigarettes. Maybe preventing alcohol abuse is a more worthy cause for the activists amongst us to pursue. Now i'm going off topic as well. sorry chaps... (and girl)
  22. I would be interested in joining the slow group, just wanted to know how good my front light has to be, and if you could recommend any light (price?). I already have a back light. What is the average pace of te 30/35 more or less. I've managed to finish a few 60kms the last few weeks and did the 40 at Wolesley the other day but don't want to hold anyone up or get dropped on the first climb. Is it mostly just gravel roads?
  23. Does anyone know about affordable accomodation for the Oudtshoorn 3 day event? looking for chalet or some place to stay for me and a MTB buddy.
  24. I am not what you would call a racing snake. But i have owned a 2010 Silverback Phoenix HT for about 2 months, paid roughly 5,500 for it. It comes with hydraulic disk brakes, Suntour Fork (same one as the Giant Terago) Deore components, CST tyres etc. And even though i have not been winning any races I have been passing many riders standing next to the road looking at what what you may call (Better known brands) and fixing all types of problems. My bike until know has had 2 punctures. That's it. My point is this. I think almost half of us weekend warriors think that better known bikes will make us faster, when in fact the only thing that really makes u faster at recreational level are your legs.
  25. I agree, it's as if the Tour went "quiet" without Lance. If he could win this year it will be amazing. Although I think the Sclecks and Contador will take a lot to be beaten... It is strange how no one had too much to say when Os du Randt came out of retirement, and need I remind you, he won a World Cup after that.
