  1. Bro with specs like these you dont need a sub 6kg bike
  2. Pity you dont really like the wheels Larry - if you did the bike would have been on the couch enjoy them !!!
  3. Thanks Stewie, I was wondering whether heavier riders may have more control with deeper section wheels ie don't get blown around as much as lighter people.
  4. Friday night question for my fellow Hubbers - Is there an optimal depth of carbon wheel (ie 303 vs 404 vs 808) that is specific to: a) My weight - (does heavier mean i can go deeper?) B) The race course profile - (flat vs downhill vs climbing) c) Weather condidtions - (windy vs calm) And all other things being equal is deeper always faster? Cheers
  5. Got enough bike kit and read my lips - I dont need another set of wheels even if it is a great bargain!!!!!
  6. Great point, does anyone know whether Coolmax have a local representative in SA - I would like to show them what's being passed off as their product
  7. Agreed, unfortunately i was the 1st sucker to buy it approx 2 weeks before the thread you just quoted. All I had was his word and our discussion. Again, unfortunately at R850 I was paying Santini money you and me both mate, you and me both!
  8. It could be that I was unlucky and got a serious dud - but then I guess an offer to replace or refund would be a reasonable expectation. :(
  9. Wow I thought this topic was done and dusted but it looks like Specialized has managed to pull a few tjomies out of hibernation. So dudes if you want to come out and support lets get the facts right, 1. I didnt pay R500 I paid R850 for a bib and vest. 2. No I didnt expect Assos but was expecting Santini (which i have used for 18 months weekly and still awesome) 3. I spoke to Adiel to understand exactly what i was getting and he couldnt have pimped it up more if he tried - awesome quality, better than first ascent or cape storm, I wear it everyday blah blah - all turned out to be a pile of #### 4. I believed him because i was a stupid rookie who thought that anyone with that length of time and number of HUB interactions must have proven himself - not true. Unfortunately i didnt see any negative feedback on @specialized before buying. This is why it could be good to have a spot on the HUB where we can rate interactions like on ebay. 5. Finally, if it was simply a case of lower quality then tough luck but this kit is un wearable - doesnt fit at all and not just because its too small because its small in some places and too big in others. any lbs or honourable seller would take back or exchange in that instance. Absolutely guys - you get what you pay for but for R850 I would have gotten some pretty decent kit from my lbs - for R850 My point with this thread is not to moan - its an R850 lesson which i chalk down to experience - but hopefully to help another unsuspecting hubber from making the same mistake i made by trusting a dishonest seller.
  10. Is that because you live so damn far from a real lbs
  11. So we build up or purchase our dream bikes and then hit the road in earnest - when it comes to routine maintenance or mechanical problems / failures .... Do you? 1. Work on it yourself - dont trust anyone else to do as good a job as you do 2. Have 1 favourite lbs or bike mechanic that does everything for you (ie wheels to gears) 3. Have a list of specialist that you send specific items too ie wheels to A, general service to B etc.. If you select (2) or (3) lets give a good punt to who you have found give a great service at a great price etc....
  12. I think its just a Polar glitch - I often get readings deep into the 200s but it normally corrects itself to the correct reading quite quickly. Once I even had my Polar reading 25% and 50% of the actual HR when i attached it to my road bike stem - the Polar did not function well with all the vibrations from the rigid stem - the handlebars appear to have a greater damping effect.
  13. CWC have made some amazing claims and its good to see them living up to them.

    Solomons

Also only visited Woodmead. Real cycling shop and normally quite competitively priced - sales are great!!
  15. Groan.... you had to bring that up
  16. Unfortunately a case of limited demand in our market which knocks on to limited supply and higher prices (in general). The other problem we have is that we are far from the other large markets with virtually non existent neighbouring markets. And thats the reason why companies like CRC can be more attractive even after paying the local SA duties and vat.
  17. On the whole the lower your resting HR is the better and 39 is pretty awesome. At 24 you will have a massive HR range between max or Theoretical max and your resting HR and the bigger this range is the more you have to work with.
  18. Let's do it - I am not convinced most bikes head north - our market is larger than all our immediate neighbours combined
  19. Thanks for all the comments guys and agree with most of them - purpose of this thread wasnt to try and resolve my problem but (a) try and warn others and (B) see if we cant get an active feedback system working. This is a great forum for buying, selling and interacting and it would be great to see it rewarding those that use it responsibly and visa versa.
  20. Hi Guys When I joined the HUB I participated in a topic entitled "How much have you spent on the HUB". In this thread we discussed giving feedback on good and bad puchase experiences. I have had many good ones @giro cycles potch, @ willemj and great interactions with @madmikex. Unfortunately a bad experience with @specialized which I want to leave a health warning on. Bought a set of Coolmax Cervelo kit and i am seriously dissapointed. 1. Promised chamois padding turned out to be very soft and thin sponge foam - when you press it between your fingers compresses to less than 1mm in some places. 2. Fit is odd - tight around the chest and loose and baggy in the crotch area. 3. Bib stitching started comming apart at the seams after single use and the foam started deforming. Contacted Specialized (Adiel) but no luck in trying to resolve this. He offered to repair the stitching if I posted it back to CT from Jhb, but that hardly solves the key problems - the inferiority of the product. This kit is way below what I expected. As a last ditch attempt I offered to cover his cost price and send the kit back - havent heard from him! Fortunately this is the only dissapointing purchase on the HUB after having spent over R40k. So I am not about to stop. Lesson though - dont buy anything unless you get a chance to inspect it 1st or you have dealt with the seller before. Hope this is helpful turns out to be helpful to other Hubbers.
  21. Thanks Stewie - done deal!!
  22. Used to ride a Giant TCR Advanced with Campy Record 10speed. Awesome ride and light at 7kgs. Just secured a Cervelo R3 frame and noticed that they come standard either with SRAM or Shimano havent seen any with Campy. Anyone out there using Campy on an R3 - please let me know
  23. Say something nice to rookies and welcome them onto the HUB before telling them how stupid their question / remark was
  24. Thanks Edman - appreciate the detailed technical response
  25. Thanks for the input Indigo JW - i didnt know Shimano and Campy 10s were interchangeable - are you likely to get a drop off in performance tho?
