  1. Thanks Zac.A - anyone else?
  2. Hi all, My wife is looking for wheels for her roadbike. She is a pretty good recreational cyclist (3.30 for 94.7 - 3.40 for argus etc), she does a combination of road and triathlon (from sprint to ironman). we are unsure what wheels to get her. we have ruled out the Zipp 404 firecrest and 303 due to price and are looking at the American classic 58 or the American classic 420 Aero. any thoughts on these or other options? some seem to think the AC 58 will be great, others reckon not ideal for a lady. advice please? Cheers
  3. My memory is different to everyone else's. the bike is fairly flat apart from the very nasty hill from the entrance to teh cascades, which you do twice, it is hard. the run is quite hard. last year it was exceptionally hot and that is waht made it so hard. in my mind it is quite a lot harder than the JHb City series.
  4. for some reason, my backside gets super sore on the Tandem. both my wife and I are good cyclists (not great) and are used to 2-3-4 odd hour sin the saddle with no problems, after 2 hours on a atndem, i wanna die! I think it is because it is much harder to shift around on the saddle..... not sure?
  5. I have a felt AR4, which is a "hybrid bike", its geometry is as close to a Tri Bike as you can get and still be road legal. I have loved it. I have used it for Ironman, 70.3, etc with clip on Tri Bars and used it as is for sprint Tri, olympic tri and road events, in my mind it is the perfect bike (my opinion). it is R33k normall, but felt have them on special for R24, maybe look for a second hand one?
  6. most people (i think) use standard gear ratios. I have cracked sub 2 hours, but it helps once you knwo teh route, an know ehere to go for it, and where to old back etc. so give it a few more goes.
  7. I have used a lot of products and rate Powerbar as best. personal opinion.
  8. Hi Guys and Gals, Just out of interest, what is the fastest speed that you have recorded on your bicycles? Mine is 76km/h, but I suspect many of you out there will have faster. I am curious, not wanting to start an ego contest. Cheers
  9. I first did full IM 4 years agao and did 8-9 sessions per week, including 1 brick each weekend. this year I did IM again, but only did 5 sessions a week also including a brick (or triathlon) on the weekend and did 2 hours better. Point being that quality is far more important than quanitity especially for an amateur with a job, wife, social life and other interests. trying to do 9 sessiosn a week and work 8+ hours a day, you will not recover and will not get the results. Train smarter, not harder. make sure you can get through teh swim comfortably, but donlt spend hours a week tryin to save 5 moins on the swim, rather spend more time training the bike or run. Cheers
  10. I had the same dilemma, ended up buying a FELT AR4. AR stands for Aero/Road. sort of teh best of both worlds. have used mine for IM 70.3, full IM, Argus, short triathlon etc. Love it! I put on TT bars for non-drafting triathlon. you will not regret the AR4.
  11. The guy in baggies was raising awareness for school kids without shoes. to run 42km in flip flops is heavy going. I had a good swim (by my standards) of 1.15, 5.55 bike, and blew the second lap of the run horribly, to finish in 12.14. great event!!!
  12. 228 for me
  13. see you guys there, ready for my second one (last was 2007), am in better shape this year, but anything can happen over 12, or 17 hours... does anyone have any idea what this years race tops look like?

It was down earlier, but is up and working fine agian.
  15. It started about 3m in front and 1m to my left, looked and sounded awful! was also a seemingly unnecesary place for a crash!
  16. I was wondering if F group can get a sub 3? I am in F and keen for sub 3, but knwo that with Boyes, it will be tough. F has not got sub 3 in a few years though.... I am willing to contribute. my numbre is F172650
  17. Hi everyone, For those of you that did the Midlands Ultra (or sprint) Triathlon yesterday (Feb 6th), what were your thoughts around the organisation, logistics etc? For what It is worth, on the positive side: good registration process good race briefing decent transition BUT, I thought that the marshalling was shocking the referees on the cycle route were not imposing the non-drafting rules the traffic cops were disorganised and not up to scratch the marshals sent some cyclists and runners on the worng route The shortage of water was a disaster in that heat, I passed 3 stations with no water on the run I get the impression that the organisers did not brief the marshals, cops and helpers properly. why were these helpers handing out 3/4/5 sachets of water, if they did not have enough to do so? why were the marshals ignorant about teh route etc? I feel it was a poor showing. your comments?
  18. I dropped my fiance's brand new R20k bike off their on Monday for its first service. When we heard the news, she got quite stressed. I collected it this morning, bike was fine, but covered in a thick layer of oily grime.... not great at all. not sure that the white handle tape and seat will clean 100%, but will try. I hope they pull through fine.
