  1. I'm sure funds are tight, no doubt. but an average labourer at R200 per days for a few days will go a long way to at least cut vegetation back.
  2. Hi, Does anyone know what is / isn't going on with trail upkeep, maintenance etc at Kingskloof? I ahve been going there for MTB and trail running for a long time and it semms that teh last 6-9 months or so have seen evry little work done on the trails. I do not expect prestine trails at all, and I knwo that thers was lost of rain etc. BUT the trees, bushes etc have completely grown over the paths in some sections making it almost unridable, and in other sections the grass has reduced the trail to 10cm wide (challengin to run) etc any thoughts / comments? Cheers

Have you guys considered the Suunto Ambit 2?
  4. I ran out of patience and had a friend bring 2 back from the USA. R3450 each. supply seems to be a problem.
  5. personally I prefer the Suunto Ambit....
  6. And that is why I was saying it has its challenges. The point I was trying to make is that by buying a unbranded blank frame you are "saving" because of your direct route of sourcing and because you are potentially buying an inferior product. I was NOT condoning it.
  7. Another way to view it, is that assuming you could buy a genuine Pina frame, but directly from the factory that makes Pina, you could probably get it at a quarter of the price or even less as you would skip the mark up to Pina in Europe, the agents in SA and the retailer. But this has many challenges too. Just saying.....
  8. I called, apparently open every day except 1st Jan.
  9. Rode the blue route and the black section, very nice riding. Starts off a bit slow, but then gets very lekker. And very convenient. Not as technical as Kingskloof, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
  10. This sounds like a targeted burglary? Suspicious!
  11. I reckon your bike is safe with either. the forces that it experiences when hanging from its cross bars are nothing compared to what it goes through on the road / trail and when being ridden. I used to have a "Hanging" bike rack which was fine for my (and my wife's) carbon bikes, but it took a long time to rack them and protect them in a way that they would not get scratched. then I upgraded to a rhinorack "sit on" rack and it is SO much easier, less stressful (on me) and all round better.
  12. I was referring to my personal circumstances and where I was going to spend my money. I expressed a premium that I would pay to have local back up. And that premium was too high, so I will use alternatives.
  13. Not sure where the maths come from, the Black edition is $399 from REI amongst others, that is R3600 at most?
  14. There is nothing illegal about buying something overseas and bringing it home, the duty free allowance in SA would cover it. Additionally if you purchased it overseas, you could claim their vat back (up to 17%), making it roughly R500 cheaper. there are distributors overseas that make a profit as well as the retailer, so why 45% more here?
  15. the silver edition is available everywhere and that is the pricing that I am referring to.
  16. Thanks, but a 45% premium ($300 overseas and R3 999 here) is a bit steep. 10% yes, 20% maybe, but 45% is a but hectic. there is no import duty on Camera / photographic gear will get a mate to bring it back with him in 2 weeks I reckon. I import product and so I understand the game, but in a modern world, you cannot sell stuff at a 45% premium just because SA is out of the way. ESPECIALLY when there is no import duties!
  17. the silfer edition is $300 overseas (just under R2700) and R3999 here! eish. anyone know the cheapest place to buy one?
  18. where in little falls is teh Cyclelab? it is not listed on their website?
  19. That was the main reason I stopped doing this series of Tri.
  20. I believe that 2min / 100m is a good rule of thumb for average. anything faster than that is above average for a age grouper enthusiast when trainign in a pool. however I find that I swim slower than that in a short triathlon dues to be slowed down by crowds, treading water and so on. and I swim slightly faster than that in a longer triathlon as once the initial chaos subsides, you can get into a decent rythym and not have to turn every 25m.
  21. I use the Adidas ones. have a pair for mountaineering, and a pair for cycling. both are awesome. i also have 2 pairs of Oakleys where the actual lenses are prescription (not inserts) also great!
  22. I had the same, and loosened my shoe. sounds stupid, but a true story.
  23. tough one. i chose a different route. I am more passionate about the outdoors (hiking, climbing, mountaineering etc). after matric, I got a job at an outdoor store, studied part time to get a Damelin Diploma, did another diploma, started at Unisa (hated it and di not finish), went to an outdoor group, worked there. did a post grad diploma, then did an MBA, worked my way up to top level at company, then went to HUGE corporate retail for 3 years, did not love it, then started my own business (early days). so, I did not pursue studies immediately, but eventually did, all the way to Masters, plus worked in an industry I was passionate about. worked out for me (lets hope the entrepreneur thing works). follow what is right for you. maybe that is work and study part time, maybe it is sto study a trade type education, etc.
  24. I ride on 2 bar, 80kg. seems fine most of teh time. 1.8bar if rocky.
