  1. Hi, I have used a lot of different shoes, in my mind, he best all round is the Salomon Crossmax. either the guibance or teh neutral, based on your feet.
  2. I was one of those that did the 3 oceans ultra. wow! it rained basically non stop from the 7km mark all the way to 56km, then stand around and wait for friends, was freezing. did 5.38, slower than hoped but ok considering the conditions. great event though!
  3. I find it helps on technical trails, downhills or routes that are typically more technical to have it lower, and on longer cross country type rides to have it higher. I seem to find that the saddle is "in my way" when trying to move my weight from far back over the back wheel, to further forward. (technical stuff). but obviously it is better higher on tracks, roads etc. will the QR type slip? or is it my technique / style that is poor?
  4. Hi, I have a trek superfly 100 bike that came standard with a bolt type seat post clamp (31.8mm) - (allan key required to tighten / loosen). I am keen to change it for a quick release seat post clamp so that it is easier to adjust based on conditions etc. is this necesary? and is it wise?
  5. Design in Motion cycles do it. I think they are the only ones in SA. Ian and Chris wilson.
  6. will be my 2nd Ultra. have done some training, but not as much as I hoped. also doing Comrades (3rd)

    Import duties

dont forget vat calculated at 110% of the invoice value (14% of 110%)
  8. Just to clarify - i DO NOT resent him making money, and I am not complaining about it at all. I am happy if he is a very rich man, I am simply curios and have always found that kind of business interesting. Remember he tried the cape Odyssey (multi day stage run) which did not work out due to lack of sponsors etc. to correct someone's comment. the IDC Finance teh Cape Epic, they do not sponsor it. they simply provide him revolving credit to help with cashflow. I also accept that he has year around bills to pay. I would actually guess that he is comfortable, but not making mega bucks. and if he is, then great. so long as he provides a world class event that is sold out (regardless of cost) then good to him.
  9. Hi Guys, I know we can all do the simple maths. Y teams x Z fee = turnover. he obviously sells TV rights, get sponsorship money etc. But I assume he has massive costs to run the race, organise it, logistics, marketing and so on, plus he has the overheads for himself for an entire year between races plus other salaries, costs, travel and so on. How profitable do you think the Epic is really for him over the duration of each full year?

    Otter trail run

I am doing the Otter Race (sub 8) this year, will also be doing my 4th Mont-Aux-Sources 50km challenge a month before (trail run up and dow the drakensberg). I reckon trail running at Kingskloof will be the best training.
  11. Try Drifters in sandton City. or order it online.
  12. I am doing the Ultra. not sure how well, but will be there!
  13. You can buy a shuttle service on the sani2c website for your car
  14. he has been sponsored by Velocity sports lab for quite a while, well over a year. so not sure what lead him to stepping back from Tri (if indeed that is the case). I am dissapointed if he has, because I was reallyhoping he would come right at Kona this year after a run of bad luck! An awesome Triathlete!
  15. if I remember correctly, Raynard did African X this weekend? so would not have been even planning to go to the champs?
  16. I have done some ultras comrades etc as well as Cycle traces and Triathlons. I reckon (personal opinion) assuming it is a moderate run course vs a moderate bike course, you can multiply the run distance by about 4-5. so a half marathon is roughly a 100km cyle, but a lot depends on the intensity and the persons ability / personal strengths and weakneses. I reckon that Bruce fordyce will find a marathion almost easier than a fast argus as an example. but this would not be the case for most of us. as an example, i think comrades is at least 5-6 times harder than Amashova whoch is over similar terrain for the simple reason that on a bike you can freewheel and recover a bit. I cannot believe that cycling is better cardio training. if you run hard, running is equally if not more cardio tough.
  17. Market forces dictate that a point of equilibrium will eventually be found. If it is too expensive, and if people do not enter, then organisers will either charge less or not continue the event the following year. As there are fewer events (if) then demand for the remaining events increases, and so to in theory does the price of those events (assuming continued demand), which makes event organisation seem attractive again, so more people organise events.... and so the cycle continues. It is however amazing that so many "expensive" events sell out so quickly. S2C, ironman 70.3, Mont aux sources run, Otter run, and so on.
  18. BlooHubs, what on earth are you going on about here?
  19. you have got to be kidding? that is ridiculously fast! who was it?
