  1. hboli4 - I have done 6 of the, will get around to the 7th (vonson), but not a priority. garfield 2010 - sadly, no drafting on Everest.
  2. So, I have climbed Everest, can I get special Treatment at IM now? :-)
  3. no potholes, with a very wide shoulder. have done it 30+ times, with no issues.
  4. Krugersdorp hill, from the big 4 way stop at the bottom (N14 and Hendrik potgieter) up the hill.
  5. Hi, Go to www.garminconnect.com and view the routes in the area. I have uploadd a few myself. Search for "krugersdorp" and you will find a really nice 40km route I do. I am in Constantia Kloof, so cycle to Hendrik potgieter and get on by builders warehouse, then cycle along HP to the N14, up krugersdorp hill, left on to robot broom, right at the lights so as to carry on Robert broom towards JHB, cycle all the way to Christian de wet, turn right and back to Constantia. It is a tough 40km and feels like 60, noften do 2 or 3 laps of krugersdorp hill. Shout if unclear.
  6. Were any other hubbers stupid enough to run the Deloitte PTA marathon on saturday and then cycle the Carnival City Macsteel 103km on Sunday? My wife and I did, clearly forgot how hard it was last year, so did it again! I struggled to get home in 2.39 at Carnival City, and am ashamed to admit that I did very little work at the front in the process! Sorry.r
  7. There ware about 4-5 guys that started in AL with their mate, but were seeded GL!!! This should be taken very seriously by organisers. These idiots almost caused a major crash in AL!!! Starting ahead of your seeding should have serious consequences! The event was exceptionally well organised and run, thanks to all involved!

    Argus D group?

I am in D, was hoping to get a sub 3, but not too sure how probable that is in D. IF we have good conditions, and IF everyone works well together, perhaps.
  9. People were also pulled off during the run at the Suncoast Triathlon, with no warning or mention of it. very poor organisation I think!
  10. I agree that costs are getting out of hand. BUT I must say that all the Ironman, Ironman 70.3 and the 5150 event that I have done, have started on time,NEVER RAN OUT OF WATER/ juice / food, had nice event shirt, medal, great race closure, good marshaling, STARTED ON TIME, great finishline vibe and so on. unfortunately, the same cannot be said for all other races. XTerra was also excellent. so yes, the fee is high, but you get a lot more than you get at most "cheap" events. still having said all of that, something in the middle would be great!

    ARGUS SEEDING

I am in D, up from F last year. was hoping for B, but think that my times on the tandem and focus on triathlon perhaps hurt me. darn!

    Fast One

The rae was not nearly as fast / easy as i had anticicpated! my legs were crying from Xterra Lite teh day before and Ironman 70.3 the week before. had a long day out (3.28). extremely well organised, good marshals etc. congrats!

The issue of Tech support is a tough one. they are able to supply you with spares (tube, etc), but may not help you change the flat etc. there was a lady on the plane yesterday b1tching because she lost 40 mins on the bike because she could not change a flat... I am sorry, If you are a cyclist / triathlete that cannot change a tube, that is your problem, not the organisers, not eth support crew. a chain is a different story, but also a tough one. the Ironman idea is for it to be an individual support. if Tech can assist with chains, then where do you draw the line?

My Plan was: Swim 0.37 T1 0.06 Bike 3.00 T2 0.03 Run 1.49 Total: 5.35 Actual was: Swim 0.39 T1 0.07 Bike 2.54 T2 0.04 Run 1.51 Total: 5.36 Do I win the prize for accurate forecasts? I found the swim a bit harder than expected (maybe a current), bike was great, and teh run was cooking!!!! great even, as expected.

in 2011 I did a 1.50 out and a 1.14 back, for a 3.04 total bike split, but paid for it on the run and ran 7 mins slower than I should of. this year I will target a 3hr bike as I am stronger, then hope for a 1.47 run. the wind will determine the degree of variance in the out and back splits.
  18. Hi B-Active, all three of the races that I have entered that were organised by B-Active,ran out of water! 3 out of 3, that is shocking. I have never had such consistently poor organisation by any other organisers. you can have as many water tables as you want, but when they run out of water as they did at Midlands last year, suncoast this year and suncoast last year, it makes no difference! I also cannot see how the oficials are going to enforce the "partial road closure", it does not make sense. there will still be 2 way traffic on the road, with no real shoulders, a number of intersections etc. Still dangerous in my mind! I also think it was a very poor showing at suncoast this year when B-Active shut the course after 3.10 for an olympic distance event. I had finished well before then, but saw many disspaointed people, a great welcome to teh sport! you can take it as constructive criticism and act on it, or ignore, your call.
  19. Hi Guys, I would like to get some more thoughts on the Suncoast Traithlon from 8 Jan. I had a pretty good race, although it felt like the effort did not translate into a afster time (Did 2.28). The late start was frustrating, but I accept that this happens. was interesting that the organisers kept referring to traffic delays, when 5mins prior to the scheduled swim start, the buoys were not in the water. 45 min delays aside. the swim start was tough, and a struggle in the conditions, but made for an interesting swim! actaully quite iked it. bike route was cool, reasonably marshalled etc, so al good. run was cool, lots of public on the course, but againto be expected. what did frustrate me was that the proganisers again ran out of water. this happenned at teh Midlands ultra last year and the suncoast in dec 2010. so of the 3 Bactive ebentsd I ahve been 2, all 3 had water shortages. to the organisers creidt they tried to get more water, but it was bottled and flavoured! but what really frustrated me was seeing them implement a 3.10 cut off for the olympic distance. this seems very short to me! it was heart breaking to see quite a few people have numbers removed and forced off the course. I dont think I have ever seen an amateur race in SA enforce such a short cutt off. surely 4 hours is fair? if you loook at results from 5150, other events etc, a large portion of teh field take over 3.10. we wnat to get people into the sport, this was not an elite race and should have been mopre forgiving on time. again, I think that the same organisers running out of water time and again, is unacceptable. thoughts?

if it is of any help. my 94.7 time last year was 2.55 and my IM 70.3 time was 2.50. my wifes times were within 10 mins of her 94.7 time as well. bearing in mind that IM 70.3this year had attrocious weather.
