Are you sure the bite valve wasn't closed? They have a small lever which can 'open' or 'close' the flow of liquid..... just a thought What has also caught me in the past was on putting the bladder back after cleaning and filling was twisting or pinching the tube..............learnt very quickly to test as soon as I reassembled.

Have you tried Jik? I find that it works well.......just rinse the bladder REALLY well before using again.
