  1. Rival is R5700 on CWC and Shimano 105 R5450 on Buycycle, so no real price difference....
  2. Thnx, I am a bit of a weight weenie...
  3. Hi Guys Building my first road bike.... splashing out on a carbon frame so my price range for a groupset is R4-6k... Which groupset is better, SRAM Rival or Shimano 105? I have read some blogs suggesting that the SRAM is better and 400g lighter. Wouldn't mind some input from hubbers in the know. Thanks
  4. 2003 frame is old. Price depends on age of the groupset and the wheels. If groupset and wheels are standard I would estimate that R5-6k would be a fair price. There is a guy here on the hub "mongoose" selling a 2004 TCR for R12k but it has better wheels and Ultegra 6700. Hope this helps
  5. Nice work Big H..... that was a great idea. What do i actively do.... I make sure i ride safely and i ask others who aren't riding so safely to ride safely (including my buddies)... doesn't always go down so well though .... then again, maybe if my name started with "Big" more people would listen to me.
  6. My two cents worth. I ride on the road with my wife on a tandem, including quite a few rides in the cradle..... my other pedaling experiences are limited to the dirt but what i can say from my experience on the road, is that there are a lot of roadies who are EXTREMELY arrogant and inconsiderate on their rides. Things like riding 3 or 4 abreast when the cycling lane is not wide enough is common place, or even worse, riding two abreast with a gap wide enough for a car to pass in between them, all the while not even glancing once behind them to check if there are cars approaching. And what's worse is that if a car expresses their irritation or hits the hooter to warn them that they are there the cyclists will shout obscenities etc etc. Funny thing is, its usually not the top riders that do this, these guys (and gals) are generally smart and considerate enough to stay as far left as possible at all times. As for me and my wife we do simple things like staying left, bike lane or not, and checking behind us before we swerve out to overtake.... sounds so simple. Then again, if one had to point this out to some of the roadies out there, u might get sworn at, threatened etc. Bottom line is riders like this are ruining it for everyone, and should catch a flipping wake up! Cyclists with bad attitudes / or who aren't alert get DEAD. Problem is, until they get dead, they make the roads far more dangerous for the considerate cyclists out there.
  7. AGREED!!!! I say send them home!
  8. 4hrs 23 minutes for twice around (shorter loop tho - so +/- 98kms) on my mountain bike.... with slicks on.
  9. Be polite to other riders.. (play nice)... whether roadie (notoriously grumpy) or mountain bikers, you never know when u might have some bad luck and need a helping hand.
  10. Dude, she shouldn't want to do it.... if she cares enough for u, she would know that spending time with an ex on a video is not sending the right message to u. if she does decide to do the video, maybe u should reconsider whether or not she is the one for you... PS - That means that u should give her the freedom to choose whether to do it or not.
  11. Those wheels must weigh a TON... def not for weight weenies!
  12. I will still maintain that there are people that are on the hub involved with this, and the selling of parts & the frames. If that is indeed the case and they are reading this forum.... then they should take heed, because the day will come when they get what is coming to them. It would really help if hubbers are super aware of the routes through which they buy their goods. Do some background checks on the guys that they buy from, whether on the hub through previous activity or by asking technical questions. Lets all do our best to flush these guys out. Don't buy from guys that give you the slightest reason not to trust them.
  13. 9ml's of whatever stops the bast@rds in the tracks.
  14. So sick to death of hearing these stories... seriously makes me want to carry a 9mm and put a bullet between those f**cker's eyes! What is the solution? Some sort of cycling body needs to be formed. Cyclists in the area pay a fee and the body arranges security along the trails? Oct. 15 (SAPA) -- Former Comrades marathon winner Nick Bester was overpowered by three men while cycling, assaulted and robbed of his mountain bike, Beeld newspaper reported on Friday. "Before I knew what was going on, they pulled me from my bicycle, threw me onto the ground and started kicking and beating me," Bester told the paper. "One of them put a knife to my throat and asked for firearms and money. I told them I do not ride with that." The incident happened on Thursday morning around 6.15am next to the Mabopane highway in Pretoria. He suffered a broken rib and his mountain bike worth R50,000 was stolen. The three men, two of them armed with knives, took his cellphone and watch. "One of them cut my cycling shirt off my body and also cut the elastic band of my cycling shorts. He put his hand in front of my shorts to look for money." Bester said they pulled him into the bushes where he was tied up. One of the men was arrested later in the day.
  15. My wife and I have just bought a tandem (and no, there isn't a divorce on the cards).... Havn't really got any experienced tandem teams to ride with, was just curious as to the average speeds that the guys train at for 50 - 75km's... Any idea?
  16. First one was a big thick nail..... pulled it out, put in a tube and off i went.... 2nd time, same tyre flat again... couldn't find anything in the tyre or see an obvious puncture.... Begged someone for a spare tyre... pumped it up and off i went..... 10 minutes later... flat again..... Pumped it one more time and off i went.... got me to the finish and was flat 30 minutes later again.... aargh
  17. So a few weeks ago I was stupid enough to post a topic on how I had never punctured.... well guess what... at the 103km (no 108kms... thnx to marshalls messing up) crater cruise today, i punctured not once, not twice... yes 3 TIMES!!! all in a space of 10kms.... Just wanted to say thanks (if he is a hubber) to a mountain biker named Mark who not only gave me a tube, but stopped twice for me to pump up my tyre when my c02 bomb was done. As for the roadies that refused to help..... u were probably so grumpy bcos u were so slow.... Anyways this post goes to hopefully appeasing the puncture gods... hope they satisfied now that i have punctured....
  18. Breedts is by the Van Gaalens cheese factory in hekpoort (near hartebeespoort dam) - use google maps to find directions to Van Gaalens Cheese factory (very easy). Park at the small shopping centre just before the factory on ur right. Turn right out the parking lot on ur bike and take second dirt road right and keep riding....21kms slight uphill drag to the breedts nek climb.... go down the other side and climb back up. about 60kms, 3-4 hrs ride
  19. Teak and Breedts are very different.... Breedt is great for long tempo riding with about 1200 - 1400m of climbing if you ride over the big climb and back up the other side. Teak is more technical with quite a lot of singletrack, one quite challenging technical climb on the black route.... higher heart rate riding than breedts. My 2 cents worth...
  20. Just beware of the 2nd part of Gnome Lane.... serious off camber pathway over big roots... can be slippery... with a nice drop off just around the corner... Probably the most technical trail at teak... I slipped over the roots once and bliksem'd over to the right down a mini rivine.....was actually quite funny... sore tho... good times!
  21. Inventor to Physio " I have a great idea, i'll make a piece of rubber with a magnet in it and you sell it to your clients for R500" Physio "They will never buy into that..... how much will it cost u to make?" Inventor "about 20 bucks..... I'll split the profits with you" Physio... "you know there is some scientific research that shows that magnetic forces..... <jargon> <jargon> bloodstreams; balance; .... more <jargon>...
  22. Whatever you do.. DO NOT buy a garmin edge 305.... with tears in my eyes i cry.... the little chinese children were starving and cold the day they assembled the 305's....
  23. Its the thing that only your buddies experience while riding... that is until you create a post about not puncturing.... upon which you begin to experience said adjective... numerous times... lol
  24. Hmmm... another valid point.... BUT.... i have been pretty bad at replacing sealant.... done it maybe 3x in 2 years...
