  1. I wouldnt ride a large frame at 1.75m tall. You wont be optimally positioned on the bike. Dont do it. Reach will be a problem, that wont be fixed with a shorter stem, you will feel too far back on the bike and it will be difficult to keep your front wheel down up steep climbs. My 2 c worth
  2. I know, you make sense, Its just that I don't trust using the wheels in races anymore... more of a confidence issue than logic. Maybe someone else will have better luck with them.
  3. Eish that is some serious BAD LUCK!! Oh left my multitool at home..... I decided (ill advised) to use my tandem deep section wheels..... going over the bumps near the start unbeknown to me my bolts at the brake levers loosened and my brakes started rubbing my wheels. Stopped and adjusted as far as the calipers would allow.... But as time wore on the brakes started tightening even more, by the time we got to the drag outside of magalies, both wheels were hardly spinning. I rode 60km's alone, unable to join anyone passing me because I just couldnt get enough pace to stay on.... I finished in a putred 3hrs 37, was torturous and it was all because of my own stupidity. So if you rode past a lone ranger on a spiffy set of wheels looking like he was crawling along, its bcos I was:( Needless to say I'm now selling the wheels. Too much bad luck for me on them. (we punctured riding to the start of 94.7 and missed the racing tandem start). My sad story
  4. Weekend warrior will finish day 2, it will be tough for you though. My advice, if you are undertrained, dont get too carried away on day 1, save some legs for day 2's climb out of the valley. I reckon minimum 6 hours on the bike for the undertrained rider.
  5. My first road race on a single bike! Been riding MTB and Tandem with the wife up until now. So its a BL start for me. Should be fun
  6. EL is your batch yep. You can buy / collect a chip at registration at cyclelab tmw or friday
  7. Yeah that grassy section at the end of day 1 - eina! Nice race though, good prep for Sani. Will be in plett this year though that time. Not too sad to miss it though.
  8. - Mountain king front, race king rear (both conti). Many will advocate for Scwalbe though. - Easy to do yourself, search youtube for how-to vids - Plugs and bombs usually suffice
  9. Hi I'm in Gallo Manor, close to Sunninghill. Also training for S2C, do most my mtb rides alone, i ride out towards cradle, 80-130km routes. Avg 22-23km/hr on mtb training rides. You welcome to join me - I'm keen for some good solid training.
  10. Further to the 'Is MTB the new Golf thread" - meet the MTB handicapping system. lol
  11. Good point.
  12. I'm gonna get some popcorn, this could get good...
  13. If we dont confront the person, then what else can we do?
  14. Eggzactly!!! Novice riders - if u on the bike for 2 hours or less, you DONT need food / GU. Come on... and if you really feel like you do, then have the courtesy of P-U-T-T-I-N-G Y-O-U-R W-R-A-P-P-E-R-S I-N Y-O-U-R P-O-C-K-E-T Spelt it out slowly, because it seems some folk need that.
  15. +1 Although, if you arent a lean mean cycling machine yet, it may be ALOT cheaper to try and lose weight first before paying R1000 to lose 200-300g per component.
  16. Yeah I guess so - but my cycling fantasy began while watching the TdF on TV, many years ago, before Burry was on TV:)
  17. I think so - we did black route Oh - and no coffee shop. There is a little pad stal (caravan) next to the parking area that sells a few refreshments and snacks. No place to sit down or anything like that.
  18. I found this route quite tough going, more technical then groenkloof, 1st 10kms is quite a test, gets easier after that. Don't be surprised if the the 1st 10kms takes you 45-50 minutes
  19. Because in my mind (and only in my mind), I time trial like lance and climb like alberto
  20. If you bring em, I will buy one
  21. Off the topic a little but did anyone watch Burry's interview after the 147km stage, Burry said that there were no free gifts, but he also criticised 360 Life for "never making the pace up front" and only attacking. Hence he didnt feel bad for taking the stage. Is there a little bit of bad blood between them do you think??:
  22. +1 - unfortunately some of our fellow human beings (cyclists) struggle to make the link between these things..... need to spell it out for them.
  23. Great work Blokman, thanks for actually doing something about this. Perhaps what the rest of us can do in return is communicate the following to our clubs and cycling buddies; - NO Frikking littering - Dont ride in wrong direction - Be friendly to the staff members - Chirp the dooshbags that they see breaking these rules This is one of the few places us Joburgers can do some proper climbing so lets not ruin it. PS - Gu's are for sissy's anyway, you dont need em around SB, toughen the hell up
