  1. Was R200 for berge en dale on Saturday (R400 per tandem) and they didnt even provide goodie bags. Don't remember seeing a waterpoint along the way either, one wonders what the entry fee covers...
  2. Went to collect race pack.... guess what no race pack, just an envelope!
  3. hmmmm....
  4. Well said Spinnekop - Emphasis on hoping that he doesnt take anyone else out with him!
  5. He wasnt trying to give us a slip Tiny K - this guy was either trying to take us out or has very poor control over his bike!
  6. To the Tjop riding in DiData kit yesterday in what I assume was the racing vets category; My wife and I (in racing tandems category) were on the tandem that you almost side swiped off the road yesterday inside 20kms from end. All I want to know is what the heck is going on in that pea brain of yours? We were keeping as far left as possible (riding in yellow line) to stay out the way, and you still saw it fit to try and take my front wheel out with your back wheel when you had the whole flipping road to overtake us?!!? Firstly a tandem is much more cumbersome to manoever, secondly my wife was on the back, thirdly on a single bike I would have you for breakfast, and lastly if I found you at the finish line you wouldnt have any teeth this morning! Next time try and be a little more considerate, you wouldnt only have taken us out, but perhaps another 10-20 riders behinds us. Its *****s like you that give roadies a bad name.
  7. Its amazing what you can learn from video tutorials on You Tube. Learnt how to remove a cassette and bleed my own brakes. In fact after trial and error with my trusty laptop video streaming how to guides in in front of me I am now comfortable doing everything on my own EXCEPT for servicing my shock.... I leave that to the professionals. Its amazing how easy some of the stuff is to do though! Breaks my b@lls paying R600-R750 to a bike shop to do a service on any of my bikes!
  8. are you mad.... R1 are the ULTIMATE in mtb brakes.... I have tried everything from XTR, Avid Elixr CR, Hygia and then finally Formula R1. There are brakes and then there are Formula R1's. http://www.mtbr.com/cat/brakes/disc-brake-system/shimano/xtr-trail-br-m988/prd_463613_1507crx.aspx VS http://www.mtbr.com/cat/brakes/disc-brake-system/formula-brakes/r1/prd_438497_1507crx.aspx
  9. Thanks, sounds like its worth a visit.
  10. How far can you ride there - i.e lap length?
  11. Does it come in size small?
  12. R8916 per team
  13. Hmmm, I must say, some roadies I ride past are mean (don't like to greet)..... Tri athletes are even worse.... although maybe thats bcos of the uncomfortable riding position (hard to take a hand off and say hi).... That being said, ther are some people you wouldnt get on with off the bike, so why would you get on with them on the bike (especially when the ego is kicked into top gear)
  14. I think it has a lot to do with price and the value you get for that price.... Compared to events such as Sani2c where you get amazing value for your entry in kit, manicured routes and food, food, food! Also its not only the entry fee but the other costs; like replacing almost every component on your bike in the training leading up to the epic, plus logistics costs etc. One needs about 50k lying around to commit fully to an Epic. = 1x very nice shiny new bike....
  15. Don't know about the profile, but we rode some of the course this past weekend. Looks like fast and flowing with a few little "bumps". No real climbing to be done I dont think.
  16. I think its worth it, and the 40km mtb race the next day is a must. You climb for an hour and a half and then descend for 20 minutes.....
  17. I'm entered for the Ultra
  18. There are other routes up northcliff hill (quite a few of them actually)
  19. Hmmm, methinks expensive watches are a proper waste of money..... can't even ride em.... (no offense intended)
  20. Also had an issue with Easton Aero wheels about 6 months back, apparently was a "bad batch". I sent the wheels back to omnico to be rebuilt with double butted spokes.
  21. Yes it most definitely will. I dont think that you are tall enough for a 175mm crank. If your crank arm is too long you will lose pedal stroke efficiency as the circle that you are having to make is bigger, too big for your height / leg length. This will cause your knees to have to lift higher than what is optimal at the top of the pedal stroke. I know this because I have been through this lengthy process of building up a bike for my wife, with the Specialised Bike Fit technician and getting our tandem optimally sized.
  22. All I can say is, be glad your wife is not as strong as one of my friends wive's on a bike..... because then she would hurt your ego big time! I ride tandem with my wife and have just built her a road bike of her own, and she is getting faster in a hurry! Hopefully my ego can handle it if she starts to give me a hiding! The couple I mentioned above had to start riding tandem becuase they were getting way to competitive with each other on the single bikes. In this case, the tandem was a marriage saver. I must say that my Mrs and I enjoy the tandem too, AND worst case scenario, if the Mrs isnt that strong, it will make you much stronger on the single bike.
  23. Thanks Guys! Sounds like there are enough reasons (aka ridable miles) to head out that way
  24. Been offerred accomodation in Ramsgate over Christmas / New year, BUT I have a lot of training to do over that period. Does anyone know if there are any decent Road and MTB routes out that way?
  25. It's fine, they think they are invincible on their 7kg carbon machines..... until they get taken out by 1x cretin behind steering wheel. Good luck to them. I keep as far left as possible and I still cr@p myself when I see that glazed over look in some of our other road users eyes.
