  1. Hi everyone Does anyone have a sense of what it should cost to courier a bike from George to Jhb? Want to get a sense of whether the quote I'm presented with is reasonable. Cheers.
  2. Only entered this morning. I thought all the entries were sold out and was in the process of doing a substitution but entered as per usual. I'm assuming there will be a 2nd round of seeding. Can I still get seeded in the 1's (i.e. 1A, 1B etc.)? I did a 2:56 from 1B in 2021. If not, do they allow for reseedings at registration?
  3. Oakley Jawbreakers for me all the way. I've in the past struggled with other brands with the lenses fogging up when riding hard or changing my head angle in a particular way. this does happen with the jawbreakers but when I look up the bit of moisture on the lenses immediately clears leaving them as clear as before. I have a pair of 100%s and they fog up too but don't clear nearly as effectively.
  4. The comments are very fair regarding 947 and CTCT. For me, jhb is sexy but in part because I live here and I choose to see it through that lense. However, CTCT and CT is definitely much sexier. CTCT has so much pull that I've in the past, due to having a young family, flown down on my own on the Saturday, race and then fly back at 2pm on Sunday. A mate once dropped me off at the airport post-race, still in my kit. I checked in and walked into the lounge, still in my bib. Got a few funny looks from the middle managers having a few snacks before their flight, but had a nice shower and was at home at 6pm. There's a part of me that would've loved to see some reciprocity and support for the 947 from Capetonians but logic must prevail I guess.
  5. Maybe a bit of a change in direction but I'm eager to know why the 947 doesn't attract as much discussion and interest as the CTCT. I live in jhb and do both races annually but for some reason, there just seems much less interest and excitement about 947. Post about CTCT and you get 10 replies within 5mins while there is very little going on on the 947 thread. Is it just the history and legacy of CTCT? how many guys from Slaapstad travel up to Gangster's Paradise for the 947?
  6. Probably repeating what has been stated but the organisation around seeding, expo etc. seems to be a shambles. Realised last night, after following this thread, that I haven't received my seeding yet. Then doubted whether I followed the correct procedure to transfer my entry from last year (which I am confident I had done). Proceeded to phone the race office who seemed relatively proficient but then still hadn't phoned me back by lunch after committing to do so. I phoned again. Turns out I'm affected by some "technical issue" that the team is working on and that I should receive all the details in the "next day or two". Not instilling me with much confidence. Regardless, does anyone know if it would be possible to do a double loop this year? The rules state something about double loops for charity not being allowed but I'm hoping there is some way around this. I have my best legs in years and would like to take it on if possible.
  7. Made it down to CPT from Gangster's Paradise for the 3rd time but 2nd CTCT. The other one was THAT year everything and everyone blew away. It has been said many times already on the thread but what an absolutely incredible day. I've travelled a lot and lived abroad for a few years but when CPT puts on a show there's few cities in the world that can rival it's vibe and natural beauty. Having the privilege of racing our bikes around the peninsula on closed roads is just the cherry on the cake. I had to do the COVID test due to still being up for my 2nd Phizer but that process was world class. On race day I set off in 1B and the vibe in the bunch was generally quite cool. Put in a lot of effort and training during the cold winter months in Gauteng and was super chuffed to beat last year's 3:08 and come in on about 2:56. Also tjuned the Pure Savage dude for riding a "sh1tty" bike while I'm on the same... ???? Good laugh. The organisation was top class all round and I'll remember it as an epic day on the bike for a long time. Wished I could've squeezed in a 2nd lap but had family commitments. Interestingly, I checked the 947 rules for this year and specific reference is made to 2nd laps not being allowed due to COVID restrictions. Was the 2nd lap at CTCT an official thing and did the rules perhaps state the same? I understood the large participation cycling event rules to be standardised considering the COVID reg requirements.
  8. Thanks for sharing! I find it a bit ridiculous that social media is being used as the official communication platform. I compare this to the level of disclosure and transparency from an event like Karoo to Coast and it is worlds apart. Doubt I'll enter an event from HA Toere simply because of this poor experience. Not the fact that it has been cancelled (that I get) but due to the utterly poor communication.

    Jock 2020

Just got hold of Hendrik who appears to be the organiser. Spoke to him telephonically. He said that, as things stand now, the race is definitely going ahead. I asked what the factors are that could lead to a cancellation with the only thing being an escalation of COVID that leads to a change in regulations. From an organisational perspective, according to him, everything is going fine and there should be updated info / emails coming out soon. Holding thumbs for this one.

Does anyone have further news on this event in general? I'm entered but have received no updates, no marketing emails etc. so getting a bit worried about whether the event will even happen. Would appreciate if anyone has any news. Thanks.
  11. Hi everyone, It has been awfully quiet on Jock 2021 scheduled for July. Does anyone have any updates? On the cycling events website the field with timing company is blank - hoping it will be Racetec?
  12. Hey guys Just want to provide some feedback. Posted here quite a few weeks ago after struggling with ITB. Running my first half marathon race on the 13th of this month. With the ITB, I eventually followed a combination of all the advice (in no particular order); 1. running more in the middle of the road where possible 2. stretching 3. Ice 4. rest 5. physio 6. roller What I've found is that the pain and discomfort now sets in quite a bit later and that I'm recovering MUCH quicker. I'm doing Meiringspoort down in the Southern Cape. My in-laws live in Oudtshoorn so looking forward to the trip. Have been running my training runs (up to 18km) at 5min/km pace and have been comfortable. So hoping I can have an enjoyable and strong race. Thanks for the advice and happy running.
  13. Hey guys Cyclist with a (newly) discovered running problem. Background is that I'm a roadie. I've always enjoyed the odd run and felt that I was a fairly decent runner but never really further pushed or explored it. Then, with a young family and limited time to train on the bike I picked up the running again and entered my first 21km in October. But... I've started with ITB issues on my right leg. Have searched the forum and read up all about what everyone is saying on ITB. Basically I could deduce this: 1. Deep tissue massage at a physio works 2. Stretching helps 3. It could be body misalignment and camber on the road that causes it What I want to know is: 1. Can running cause long term ITB issues for me. Eventually, probably towards the end of this year I want to go back to focusing on my road cycling and I want to avoid causing long term damage. 2. How do you run and train on the road with camber being an issue - I typically run on the right hand side and can deduce that this is part of the issue. Cheers!
  14. Hey guys. How many races are left in the series? Haven't been able to get onto 1 yet. Young family and work keeping me busy. Buy staying up to date with the posts here and it seems everyone has been enjoying the racing so far. Great to see so many Saffas on Zwift. On another point, I started a team on ZwiftPower specifically focused at South Africans. Considering the quality of riders we have on Zwift, I think we can put a mean team together that can compete in some of the other racing leagues on Zwift. I'm not sure how the recruting function works on ZwiftPower so would appreciate some advice if anyone has any insight? Also notice that many of the South Africans are already racing for other teams. But if there are any of you keen to race for a South African focused team, let me know.
