  1. I haven't had too many issues with mine. There are good tarining data that the other power meters can't offer. Mine is the older model. I feel that it just needs to be installed properly and then the inaccuracy is minor. I had great after sail service from polar with mine Williehond. It took them 2 days and R60. It was also a broken wire
  2. As far as I know GL-Gm hasn't been applied to cattle, has it? There is no real reason to ban the use of the technique
  3. With gene therapy there are no markers. GL-GM (Germ line Gene modification) basically means that you can alter the genes of your egg/sperm so that they will pass favourable traits onto your foetus. The "beauty" with gene therapy is that the genes become part of your genes so there are no foreign substances in your body. It is full proof. WADA will never catch up with it
  4. I haven't read anything recently, but records will be smashed by the East Europeans and Chinese. The Chinese are training behind closed doors. I get the impression that the Chinese will take the most medals.
  5. I know for a fact that hemopure is a big one that the cyclists enjoy the taste of. The chemicals will become obsolete with gene therapy though, and in a way for the better. There is very little risk in gene therapy and if it is obtainable to the masses, it simply levels the playing field, making it a test of character, will power and strategic no how; nothing else! What could be more fair? WADA are slowing the process though. At the moment it is simply an ethical issue. Cyclists simply see it as a training aid. WADA at one stage were looking at banning hypoxic chambers; which is ridiculous. They would never have been able to monitor that sort of use. The whole subject is too distorted. Quite frankly I view it as a step amongst the stairs to elevation. That said, until it is legalised....it is illegal.
  6. But lets be honest, the tip of the ice berg has only been reached. until GL-GM reaches it's potential and market, the full extent has not been considered. This track cyclist, does he by any chance ride road events too? Has the pharmacologist written any papers on the subject?
  7. With all the talk of drugs etc I just thought I ould open the argument a little further. Genetic doping is the next big thing around the corner. There is no way of being able to detect whether someone has undergone gene therapy or not. Gene therapy also takes many forms. But basically, the argument for legalising it plays a strong hand. Sport is going to change in a big way in the next 50 years! Any comments?
  8. I think this thread has been hijacked. A degree not used is wasted. Iv got to get back to mine.... To get back to topic..... ......Astana suck!
  9. Yup, a journal. It's going to be an interesting task, but Il make it fun and I plan to gain some useful experience from it. I believe the opportunities are there, but I need to consider my options when applying for honours. The direction of getting a Doctorate in Physiology and Biochemistry seems to be an attractive choice. It will be a better option for the overseas market! No-one can argue with you on the stuff you know about So apart from being a previous springbok, what else do you know about? Do you have any tertiary qualifications? (Sorry if I come across as invasive. I hope you don't mind; I crave information!)
  10. Why ??? Well then what do you mean that the Carte Blanche episode was such good advertising? because otherwise I wouldn't be too happy....
  11. I assume that that is tongue and cheek
  12. Not 100% true.... It only happened to one woman. At first they though it was because of a failed pregnancy but was in fact due to her using HCG (Human Chorionic Ganodotrophins) without the Team doctors knowing. Its still very difficult if impossible to catch a woman on testosterone as there is no natural epitestosterone to measure against. The reason that she was so strong was because she had used HCG right through her course. to not allow the T/E ratios to exceed 6 to 1. Another factor was the result of Pausine. Growth hormones extracted from a Pig. Sounds unreal but this was actually the strongest GH ever discovered. The East Germans innitialy only tried this out on Woman untill the 1988 olympics. Pregnant woman are in fact not stronger at all ......... Chunky I knew otherwise. Do you know what the athlete's name was off hand? Regarding Le Mond, again Im speaking from my perspective; it saddens me to hear that. I was under the impression that being the first American to ride the Tour and make it in Europe that there was something more to him. His days were slightly ahead of me watching or following cycling as a sport, but I built up a cleaner image of him from reading articles, reports and watching footage! How do you fit into the grand scheme of things in the cycling world Chunky?
  13. Slightly off topic, but in relation to the East Germans. Did you know that they used to get women athletes pregnant so that their events fell within the first trimester of pregnancy. The reason being that during this period, all the hormones are pumping madly and as a result the women's performance enhances. After the event/s they would abort the pregnancy
  14. No worries Texas. It is all good, I understand where you are coming from and I do agree with you on your "Innocent until proven guilty" stance. I see things from a slightly different perspective, as does everyone.
  15. and I agree with you 100%. I don't think I am belittling Lance, I have read a lot of articles, spoken to people within the cycling world, medical world; I myself am studying Bsc Sport Science majoring in Physiology, Biochemistry HMS; and as a result am just giving my honest, non-biased opinion that i have formulated over a couple of years. I love the sport, not the sportsmen/sportswomen
  16. Texas Sally, I hear what you are saying. No one can take away what Lance did, whether he doped or not is irrelevant, as I believe that everyone did at that stage. He is a remarkable man, but I don't like to glorify him or any other cyclist for that matter. To me, Greg Lemond was a classier cyclist; more tact, more talent and and no bad reputation!
  17. I can get you in contact with my LBS who stocks mainly Solis. I have only ever heard good things about them (and that isn't from the owner)
  18. The signs have definately been there to be read. As Cruxie has said, the ASO knows about all the goings on that occur, however due to clever masking abilities, knowing when to take what so not to get caught etc, USPS/Disco have been able to dance around the tests. The stringent rules that dictate a positive test also allows athletes to bend the rules as such. The body has many ways to show whether someone is abusing drugs, however if nothing comes up to what the guidelines suggest or if proper procedure is not followed, the tests can't be deemed conclusive. NOTE: Armstrong has tested positive for Cortisone, if I remember correctly, but he conveniently had a Dr's note...
  19. With all these cheats, it seems to me that everyone wants to be bigger than the race! Bigger than the sport. What knobs!
  20. I knew it would happen. I couldn't be happier. I feel that this is justified and needs to happen to the begin weeding out
