  1. But will the Cassette fit on the fulcrum freehub?
  2. Who can help me in my life or death predicament?!?!?! I am busy riding 2008 Shamal Ultras with a HG freehub body! However I have a SRAM PowerDome Cassette and would desperately love to race with this cassette on the Shamals, however it doesn't fit on the HG! Does anyone know what freehub body would allow me to utilise both, or where I could get any help? Thanks
  3. so I googled Blanka Vlasic and came across an interesting photo........
  4. There is no evidence that they work! Just some inconclusive lab results!
  5. Weight doesn't feature in fitness really, and heart rate is a personal indicator. I remember Chris Froome's max HR being 148. Also V02max is not a fitness indicator. It is merely a gauge of endurance capability. You cannot increase your VO2max boeing2008-07-03 05:11:53
  6. Lightspeed. The sienna is a fantastic frame. If possible though, why not try and organise a test ride on each with similar components boeing2008-06-25 10:02:41
  7. Titanium is the ultimate bike material. Less wear than Carbon, however it is light and doesn't sacrifice any stiffness with the light weight. Carbon has no chance against Titanium. The only drawback is the expense of Titanium. But if you can afford it, there is no problem
  8. Eish boring' date=' going for the Vino look with that helmet angle. and the bad thing is, we are related. [/quote'] ha ha I so need a new helmet. Wow, thanks for the photos everyone. They rock too hard. WHAT A WEEKEND! Oh Mantastic, Mantastic
  9. or maybe you want to give me your personal details such as residential address, code to your alarm, whether you have any dogs and where you keep your bike and parts! You know just for interest sakes
  10. Its ugly! Maybe you want to give it to me! You know to preserve your good looks etc Im ugly, so it doesn't matter to me....
  11. Cois, I think you are a purist and to me that is a good thing. Respect the man for his views! The EPO thing though, while sleeping in a tent is rubbish. When sleeping in a tent simulating a high altitude, you can not overdose and risk the same side effects as with EPO since your body makes the changes. Doping with EPO is a process you apply to the body and hense the risks. Yes there are benefits in having more red blood, but the natural process can not compete with the levels of performance from doping. The tent only cuts out the traveling necessary to achieve the same results. Anyway, by the sound of things the equipment are just as expensive as the traveling. There is a certain amount of risk using a tent if it is not monitored properly etc
  12. Alright. The tent that simulates high altitude is a hypoxic chamber/tent. Hypoxia is a reduction in oxygen. Oxygen tents are used in the recovery process after injury, however it will not have any benefit on the cardiovascular system! Hypoxic tents are cheap (a couple of thousand) but the generators needed to suck out the air in the tent start at roughly R40 000. There was talk of the tents being banned as they stimulate EPO production in the body (naturally). This is the same as if you were at high altitude. Personally, there is no reason to ban them but the same dangers exist as in EPO or blood doping i.e blood thickening; therefore you need to closely monitor your progress. They are not illegal though. They do work. The idea behind altitude training is training low and sleeping high. The majority of the body's adaptations would occur at rest, so every night you would have to sleep in the tent. It isn't a quick adaptation though. The benefits only really occur after a year! Personal Some tents are designed to train in too as some people feel that training at high altitudes will have the same benefits
  13. WOW, this an amazing shot. This one really gives me a stirring emotion. It reminds me of loneliness. You should take this up as an art. It is stellar. Do you get big printouts? Cos I reckon you could exhibit. To answer your early question, I would think Northcliff hill would be amazing, but the only issue is that there is a gang that operates in the area. But maybe the top of Hendrik, Robert Broom or even more maropeng.
  14. You should go ontop of a hill and take some of a busy road.
  15. Schwinn. Where abouts are you based Keith? Nothing against the lab, but I feel that some of the local based bike stores can offer better service and as good of a bike setup. Speak to Janine at Linden cycles if that is convenient
  16. and welcome not only to the hub, Keith, but to the wonderful world of cycling! You will never leave, and it will never leave you
  17. Ethically there isn't much wrong with the gene therapy. Drugs, yes because they are harmful. It is all about progression. If the same argument was made about chemotherapy, where would we be now in the fight of cancer? Naturally, society is afraid of change and progression; it means those of us in the later generations can't benefit from such a change. It is just another step in the evolutionary chain
  18. What are the components of the said bikes? Specs? Where are you buying from?
  19. Thats quite interesting. Maybe it isn't dead and buried then. Either way the whole aspect of the sport and sport in general is changing. I think the days of professional sport is limited. I see it going back to recreational reasons for participation.
  20. I don't know much of the 2 but I would go with the Schwinn personally. Ride them. The hijack police might come and report you for hijacking the thread. You can start a new one if you want; then yopu will get a ton of info.
