  1. Try Janus at Evobikes. I just bought an AXS battery for under R1000. Also placed an order for new SRAM derailer. Don’t know when it will be available in SA but think it’s worth the wait.
  2. Me neither. Maybe Bikehub should have a translate functIon, then maybe more can reply.
  3. All you people who think just because someone is good at what they do they surely must be cheating. I rode with Yolande 2 weeks ago in the 72km race. We finished same time. The route had a total elevation of 360m. Now that speaks of a very fast race. I passed 3 other women along the way and at the speed they were doing they could have been on a Sunday afternoon ride. So why is someone cheating/doping just because they pedal a bit harder and put in more effort than the other people. Maybe the guys that won also might have been cheating because they rode so much faster than the other guys. There are people out there that are just in another class. No matter what age they are.
  4. No problem, just don’t know how to do that and still retain my name next to number. I’m doing my 19th Argus and aim for 21. Over 60 so time is not on my side. If you can figure a way to do it I’m fine with it👌
  5. There’s something seriously wrong with seeding for this years CTCT. I am to start in group 1A (6:30 start) I should be no higher than C or D. I don’t want to start that early. Do they have any idea how early I must wake up. Will move back to start time around 7:30 - 8:00
  6. Yes, you can easily ride without battery assistance. Although I would keep away from very long steep hills 😁 On my Merida e140 I have done more than 4000km and did over 50% of those with battery in “off” mode. The “drag” on bikes differ between makes. Merida rides like normal although heavy MTB while my Giant Trance e have a slight “drag” Go for it, just check those battery levels while riding and tune the support mode down if need be
  7. I find it mind boggling that people should rave about 1kg more or less on a bike when all you have to do is loose a kilo or two of your own weight and it will cost you no xtra money. There is very big difference between rider weight (70kg - 100kg) that 1kg for the bike is just not worth debating about. I would buy the Titan any time. Very good spec bike.
  8. If you must deal with them ask for Wayne. He is on the ball and seems to be the only person there that knows whats going on or are willing to help you. Leave the other guys alone. They don’t have a clue what’s going on
  10. I have mudguards on my mtb. It works like a dream. Ride the RTP and other muddy races with them. No mud on me, front and back. Other people were covered in it. Just don’t stick them too close to the tyres. 2-4 cm clearance is enough. Too high and mud will start to spread and you will get some of it.
  11. Try the Griffon 99’er in Feb for a substitute. Nice run before the Argus to see if the fitness levels are there. Got a 50km and 100km. Start at Durbanville race course.
  12. It’s funny. Started off as “If ebikes should be allowed to ride on the mountains” Then some oke turn it into a fashion discussion. What will be next? Maybe roadies should ask for mtb’s to be banned on tar roads. Wear what you want, ride what en where you want as long as you are riding. That’s all there is to it.
  13. I have spoken to the organisers of K2C and they might allow gravel and e bikes next year. One hubber also wanted to know about e bikes in bigger races. The “Argus” only started them at the back the first time. Thereafter we were spread out all over. The same with the 99’er. Some races (mostly mtb races) will start the e bikes at the back with a 5 min time delay. Then there are those events that will start us at the front 👍of the group with a time delay for the rest. For me, this is the better option. Then the normal mtb riders cannot complain when we go past them. (Just a joke) You do get those very fast guys on normal mtb bikes that uses us as a carrot. On the longer not so very hilly races they do catch up and will then make a few comments (good natured) about us being to slow. Good for them👌💪🏻. Most e bikes are limited to max out at 25km/h. Over that and you ride a very heavy mtb. So the only place they might (I say “might” because it is not always so) be better off is on the steep climbs. I once swop bikes with a guy (just as tall - 1.9m and heavy -98kg) struggling on a climb. He got onto my e bike and I rode his bike to the top of the climb. The smile on his face when I eventually reached the top on his bike was worth the effort (on my side) a 100 times over. So for those guys on ebikes. Next time out offer your bike to a guy that are really struggling (or pushing his bike) on a hill and let’s get the people around us to enjoy and have fun riding an e bike. Maybe we can change some of them to see us in a different light. Just choose your hill to do the change with care😁
  14. E-Bikes were not allowed for the K2C this year but I entered a few years ago (when they were allowed) and entry just rolled over from year to year. Phoned them beforehand and they said I can ride but will not be timed, which were fine by me. We were only 3 e bikes in the race. Funny thing is that no gravel bikes were allowed to ride but there were lots of them, some even ride past me. Good for them. Even told one rider I’m glad I’m not on one of those going down some of the downhills. Must have been scary as hell. I have no problem with them passing me or riding a gravel bike. Why do’t the guys complaining about e bikes don’t complain about the gravel bike riders? Must be the “motor” thing. So for the negative comments, well, I look at it from the guy who made the comments point of view which would have been something like “getting me one of those as soon as possible” He just did not say out loud. I don’t care what other people say about me riding an e bike. Some actually did and I talked to them about ebikes in general while riding with alongside them on the inclines.
  15. E- Bikes are allowed for a lot of races. For most of them your time does not count at the end (so you ride it for the fun, as it should be, but ride as hard or as slow as you want) Jakhals Events now have a special category for e-bikes (price money, etc) Trans Baviaans also allows e-bikes to take part with special drop off points for xtra batteries. But as with the Argus and some other seeding races your time does not count to get a better seeding(as it should be). I ride an e-bike and enjoy taking part in races. Have been riding for over 50 years now and e bike make it possible now to still be able to take part in long distance races. Did the K2C the past weekend and the only comments I got was “Yee, I wish I had one of those” (Mid part through the race on the long uphill drags) Not one negative comment.
  16. If people will just realize that most of us are riding for the fun of it (most of the times) In our group we have a lot of mtb riders, gravel bike riders and e-bike riders. On training rides we all ride together, we even swop bikes between riders when someone is struggling that day. We either help him on the climbs or put him on an e-bike during the ride so everybody have fun. But unfortunately you get those people who don't want to put in the hard km's during the week and just pitch up with there e-bike on race day and see how many people they can "race" by (especially on the climbs). You will never see them do the long distances because the battery won't last. I did the 99'er this year (100km) and still had 70% battery life at the finish because I paddled most of the time in "off" mode. My aim is to see how far I can ride with a full battery and to do that you have to put in the hard km's during the week. I did 3 rides this week in the evenings:- 92km in total with 1386m climbing and 23.7km/h avg. Had only used 34% battery (I'm 62yrs and not skinny - 98kg) I don't even bother switching on the bike on the flats and on climbs less than 3%. Keep doing that and you will get fitter everyday. (You can actually get fit riding on an e-bike. It just depends on how you ride. It works for me) I am on Strava but use it only to match my rides to see how I did over time and to compare my data with myself. I use the e-bike setting but don't worry about someone else's time or KOM's. I still have my normal mtb and road bike and do ride them on and off.
  17. Something that most maybe did not know. Alan Hatherly (SA XCO) rider was the under 23 XCO world champ. He also is then current UCI world champ in XCO short track - won it last month. Best of all he was also the UCI XCO first e-bike world champ. Is he a cheater? Look at his profile on “inthebunch.co.za” and see what he has to say (as an international world class mtb rider - not some local guy like me) about riding an e-bike and where it is going in the future. Make some good reading. Seriously. Maybe people (at least some that is not e-bike riders) will have a different view. I do agree you get some serious ass holes on e-bikes as you get them on normal mtb’s and road bikes. They will always be there. Just ignore them.
  18. You’ve got a serious mental problem. Then all people driving cars are dishonest because they should rather walk? Get real
  19. I have a S Works levo as well as Merida e140 - 8000. Both are really good bikes. But my go to bike is the Merida. Done over 4000 km now and love the bike. I see someone as advertising a Merida 160 on the hub. If the size is right for you have a look at it. Rides like normal mtb when not turned on. No drag of the motor. Best advise is go to shops and test drive some other brands. You might be surprised. Best of luck
  20. Hi Danie, my advise is go for the e bike. I started riding them 3 years ago and never looked back. The more you ride the fitter you will get, believe me. I’ve done over 15 000km on my e bikes and know what I’m talking about. Those people that tells you otherwise don’t know what they are talking about. In the beginning I could only do 50-70km on a 500w battery. But as time goes by I can now easily do 80 - 110km depending on route profile. But go for bigger battery. I changed mine now to 700w and can do 100-130km with 1900m of climbing easily. Buy a bike that is not restricted to 25km/h. You will hate it. Rather stay with your normal bike then or derestrict it. Speak to people who are riding e bikes if you want good advise. Non e bikers don’t know what advise to give. It’s like asking a guy riding a horse what plane you should buy.
  21. I really feel sorry for those few riders who thinks the road belongs to them. They can’t seem to see the bigger picture. They can’t understand that it is not about their ego’s. It is to get as many people as possible on a bike and enjoy it no matter what bike it is. It is not what bike you ride it is only that you ride and the biggest thing about riding a bike is to enjoy it, that’s what matter the most.
  22. It seems there are a lot of guys that have nothing better to do than moaning and complaining about something that will never be changed. Get use to the idea of e bikes. It’s here to stay. Nobody complained about cars being invented or cell phones so why e bikes. If been riding for over 45 years and am still riding my road bike (normal) as well as my e bike and I love riding both. If you want to “brag” about your time for events turn professional. Nobody cares about your time. 99% of us normal people ride bikes because we love it. We don’t care about Strava or all that nonsense. If e bikes get more people to ride so 👌. Stop complaining, get on your bike and enjoy the ride. Forget about other people, do you own thing or buy yourself an e bike and see how much fun you can have.
  23. You can use ARMOUR RIDE. Based in Cape Town. Had 4 e bikes now wrapped and are taking another one next week. They do excellent work of very high standard. You can contact Dean at 076 6333302. I used cheaper material previously and it just can’t take the punishment.
