  1. I actually had the same question. But thought the "wound was still fresh". Another example of this is coming down Helshoogte pass into Stellenbosch (or Sugarbush into Hout Bay). I believe the speed limit is 60km/h and cyclist normally clock north of 75km/h (me included).

  3. Hi Keagan People are generally reluctant to rent out their bikes to strangers. I would imagine this is due to the many risks that come with such an arrangement. But some companies rent out bikes in Cape Town. So you can look them up but I know one is called Cycling Friends. Here is how you could get your bike from Durban to Cape Town for R1285. Cycle Lab can bubble wrap and box your bike for R250 and if you are flying to Cape Town it costs R285 to travel with a bike on FlySafair. For the return, you could get it boxed by Cycle Lab in Cape Town and they can also courier it to your house or a Cycle Lab branch in Durban for R750.
  4. Disclaimer: In no way is this an attempt to support any narrative that suggests fatalities of cyclists are justified. I'm a cyclist and I support staying wider of the rider. With that said. When I moved to JHB I couldn't believe cyclists would just occupy an entire lane on the road and simply park a support vehicle to screen them from traffic. It's also common to see a lone rider, riding along slow AF with a big car moving behind them. Essentially blocking the way for other cyclist and cars who are trying to get on with their day. Then there is the issue of guys crossing the barrier line on open-road races, which is quite frightening. A guy will cross the white line and try to move up in the bunch. And I will be watching biting my teeth as oncoming cars get closer. You would think this brave soul is risking his life to go and pull a turn in the front. Wrong! He just did all that to only continue sucking wheel the entire race. Then there is the issue of cars with bike racks that are so aggressive towards cyclists on the road. Some of the worst drivers also live among us, hopefully not on the hub.
  5. I have used a variety of products so my feedback is based on personal preference. 1. EVOX Lean-Pro Lite: 20g of protein and its Low carb and its plant protein and it doesn't taste nasty like most plant protein powders. This is diet shake so it bloats the stomach to create that satiated feeling 2. Biogen Rage Impact Whey: Has about 27g of protein per serving and also has some creatine. 3. Biogen Complete Whey: 25g of protein. Its a blend of whey and plant protein. Taste is not too nasty as it also has cocoa 4. Biogen Iso Whey Premium: Recommended by my dietician but I am yet to try it.
  6. Have a good one too man🫔
  7. Thanks for the reply. As a detective of note, I managed to find you on Strava and just saved the file from your routes.
  8. Afternoon good people! Does anyone have a route file for this race?
  9. I'm only familiar with that route from Alberton. I believe that the M61 or Vereeniging Road. I've ridden there alone numerous times with no issues. But perhaps some guys from the East Rand would be more reliable with how you safely get out of Boksburg.
  10. It's like +- 60km from Mayerton and I know damn well I wouldn't want to do that ride after 140km of racing. All the best manšŸ‘.
  11. Depending on the timelines of your trip also consider boxing and shipping if Uber will potentially set you back R2000. You could box and ship via Cycle Lab for R750 to their Boksburg branch. I think they normally take 3 days to move a bike between JHB and Cape Town. Another option could be boxing and flying with it, then unbox it it as soon as you land. That way it can fit in the boot of a normal sized Uber. Heck I could even offer to pick you up from the Airport and only expect you to cover fuel at a fraction of that 2k cost for Uber.
  12. I can also confirm the R285 fee on Flysafair, I used it in November as well. Just make sure you use a generous amount of bubble wrap and padding if you are using a cardboard box. Airlines are not renowned for handling luggage with care.
  13. Sorry this happened to you. I suggest you open a case ASAP. Even though the transaction was reversed , there should be a paper trail that the police or you can use to track the person. Banks are usually helpfull in cases of fraud but you may need the police to get through the red tape of POPIA.
  14. Goodmorning Hubbers I would like to shorten the straps of 2 of my bibshorts. After exploring various alternatives it seems finding a local seamstress or tailor is my only viable option. But I don't want to use any random person as i don't want a botch job. I would appreciate any recommendation and I am based in JHB.

    947 Ride Joburg

Since moving to JHB I have had 2 opportunities to do this race and opted not to on both occasions. It just doesn't really appeal to me for some reason. I'm a big guy but I can get over hills just like the next guy. But I feel like it's a lot of elevation to pack into 90kms. Especially for people who don't ride consistently. I know it might not be a fair comparison. I bet more people travel from other provinces to Cape Town for the CTCT than travel to JHB for this race. This year I just chose to skip this and travel to Cape Town a week before doing the DC.
  16. I generally don't have high expectations regarding logistics for most of the races I enter. My approach is getting there an hour early, having enough nutrition as I don't really make use of the waterpoints and I don't just rely on marshalls to have a safe race. But I have seen my fair share of šŸ’© shows though. My biggest gripes though are: 1. I am not aware if there is streamlined communication framework that is followed by the players in the space. I don't think it would be too difficult to coordinate and curate an annual database of races. I am not aware of a single platform one can use to get info on all races happening in a calendar year. Compiling a race calendar has been a mission for me since moving to JHB. 2. A lot of races don't publish route files which is such a simple thing to do. This is very important to me when preparing for races as it impacts my pacing, nutritional plan and just knowing where there climbs are. 3. I feel elite and pro riders are just not treated seriously enough. Don't ask me to provide evidence (this is the internet after all) but I just feel more could be done for all entrants but especially the elite racers. An aside! Strava is actually and under uterlised medium of communication and not just by race organizers but cycling clubs as well.
  17. Bike hub pay is the best option in my view.
  18. My order was logged on the 25th of June and it arrived 2 months later.
  19. Definitely. That is the timeline we set unless something drastic happens before then. But for now it feels like money well spent.
  20. Yeah when I first saw how much my saddle went up I was a bit sceptical at first. I even had a rouge thought that I would drop it when I get home. My fitter reassured me and I decided to trust the process. I also double checked with MyVelo Fit and it confirmed that I was within the correct range. It feels great though. Yes he mentioned that it would take some time to adjust. My one sitbone was painful for 2 days and now no pain. Reach still feels longish but not painful. And that's probably just a flexibility issue that will get better with time. And if it doesn't we will make adjustments. Keeping my rides short and flat for now to get used the fit, new shoes and also rebuild my engine after being off the bike for a month.
  21. So I finally saw my snake oil salesman (insert sarcasm font) and boy did I get a shock. It turns out what I thought was a dialed in fit was not even close to where it needed to be. 1. Saddle height went up by 4.5 cm. 2. Moved from a 142mm wide saddle to a 155mm. 3. Setback, yeah it moved back a lot. It's still early days but the results are as follows. My knees are tracking straight and I can feel my hamstrings and glutes working instead of just my quads. I feel stable on the saddle and I can feel that I am sitting on both my sitbones. I'm sure we will make a few tweaks over time but my position on the bike has changed a lot and feels weird in a good way.
  22. Before the injury I was averaging between 78-83. Post injury I've been managing 80-82. But I want to get to 87-90. I know it's not just about slapping on a dinner plate and poof problem solved. I will do some cadence drills and strength work as indicated by Frosty.
  23. Thanks for the feedback and I take your point. When I used a 50-34 in Cape Town the bib would barely last for more than 8 months. But I didn't really link the premature wearing with the size of my crank.
  24. Affirmative! I currently weigh 108kg but aiming to shave a lot of that saw a nutritionist to support on that front. So far so good. This was pointed out by a Bio I saw so I will be starting with some work at the gym from September but baby steps as I am coming back from a knee injury.
  25. Yes the website I used has a similar conversion but to be honest I'm not sure I understand that any better. I know the is a difference between riding at 20km vs 22km at different gears and same cadence. What I lack is perspective in the grand scheme of things in terms of what those differences mean. Does that make any sense?
