  1. They have an option to ship with DHL. Click on the arrow next to free shipping There will be a pop up for DHL
  2. You are gonna get a lot of hate for not supporting you LBS or local distributor. But they can eat dirt, because they are shafting using the pricing. The local markup is almost R4000. Magene is quite reliable as a retailer on Ali. But just make sure you dont use the free shipping option unless you are in no rush to get the product. Also looking to get my second unit.
  3. Sympathies to all those affected. But did the dude in orange just sip his coffee while being confronted by a crazy gunman?
  4. It's usually a double flick of both elbows. One can get missed but missing two flicks is the fault of the person behind you. Most people lose speed when they stand and pedal. Its possible to stand and pedal without losing speed but most people can't or usually stand in a moment of panic.
  5. In my limited racing experience I have learnt the following. - Too many people expect group ride dynamics in a race bunch. There are some crossovers but a race bunch is different from a coffee ride with your mates. -Keeping your line is crucial from a safety standpoint. But you dont have a permanent God given line for the whole race. To many people shout keep your line when they struggle to keep up with the dynamic nature of a racing peleton. - Most of us want to be in the front 20-30 wheels as it's usually more safer and efficient. But very few of us actually want to pull (myself included). - I am not the lightest or the fittest but one thing I prioritize is anticipating things in the bunch. You have to know where the pinch points are, spot a dead wheel in a split second, know when and how to move up safely and efficiently. -There are a lot of strong guys who can't race a bike for 💩. 400 gazzilon watt ftp but can't hit an apex, drink without looking down or signal before standing. You also need to have some ⚽️⚽️ in a bunch. Too many people ride like scared wankers in some of these races, but insist to be in the centre of the action. I am not advocating dangerous riding but some people need to grow a pair man.
  6. I was in that group, seeing it live was quite scary!
  7. Sub 3's were quite expensive this year. Managed to get one last year in 1A and another one this year from the same group. Sometimes a higher seeding can be a curse. In 2024 I was seeded in & and got spat out like chewed tobacco. 2 years in 1A and sucess on both occasions. Moral of the story, trust the seeding!
  8. Its a great app. The prediction resembles the conditions of the 2024 edition. We chowed wind all they way to Cape Point and were battered by cross wind on the way back to town. That year, the way up Chapmasns Peak was more enjoyable than the way down. "I am little concerned. Matter of fact, I am really more than a little concerned."
  9. I was in a similar situation a few months ago, and chose a gravel bike. In my opinion it's a more versatile option unless you want to do really technical trails. I also live in Sandton, and as you know our roads in JHB are horrible. I use wide slick tyres to ride the crappy roads and some smooth gravel. I use proper gravel tyres when I want to do the local trails like delta park all the way to the Botanical gardens with no issues.
  10. It's basically a table that tells you how many grams of carbs you need to eat after your immediately after your ride. Its based on duration and TSS per hour. Then you get figure that is specific to your weight. I don't have a soft copy of the table though. Example I bang out a 2hour ride with a total TSS of 120 and I weight 90kgs: The TSS/h=60 and the required carbs for this kind of ride would be 1-1.1g/kg of body weight. Therefore I need to 90g or more of carbs as soon as I end my ride. Then I can have my lunch with more carbs and protein. This often means I don't have to go heavy on the carbs during the lunch meal. The table has a range of durations from 45m to 240 and beyond. The required grams of carbs/kg of body increases depending on the duration and TSS/h
  11. I use Jesse Coyles post ride recovery protocol and it works like a dream for me. He uses a TSS/h formula to determine a g/kg of body weight carb intake.
  12. I use the following products and rotate them. -USN Ctyopower: Mainly during races as each serving has 150mg of caffeine. -Biogen Carbogen and Cytogen (has 50mg of caffeine): mostly during training but I use it in races and increase the caffeine dose with gels. -Sugar water: With electrolyte tabs and lemon juice to balance out the sweetness I used to be a strong believer in 1 bottle with liquid carbs and 1 with just water. But recently I have moved back to liquid carbs in both bottles especially for short races. This way I don't have to pack in 3 servings into 1 bottle. Ps. Got the best piece of advise recently from David from the Active Hobo. And it's changed my approach to fueling entirely. The less time you spend digging through your pockets, the more time you spend focusing on the effort!
  13. I am in search of a left L6 Boa dial if anyone has one. I have lodged a warranty claim but I am worried I won't receive it before CTCT. Help a rubber out.
  14. 2 years in row now. In that time I have always done Dischem Ride for Sight, Ride JHB and a few other races. I just take it and ask no questions 🤫
  15. I was just about to say the same thing. It has to be super tight and placed higher up on the wrist to improve accuracy.
  16. Recovering rim break and mechanical shifting fanatic here ☝️. Get a disc brake bike!
  17. I think the number of entries does play a role. In 2024 and index of 19 got me into & batch but in 2025 I was in 1A with the same index. In both years it was my DC time that improved my index.
  18. The discourse of the letter of the law vs a nuanced implementation is always fascinating for me. Generally people tend to pivot either way depending on how they are affected by the situation. Just because something is legal does not mean it's a good idea to do it. A quick search revealed that the N7 is a freeway up until Malmesbury if you are driving away from Cape Town. The grass island, two one way lanes, the 120km/h speed limit and the off ramps instead of intersections are clues that this is a freeway. Also discovered this little nugget, "No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated"
  19. My first instinct was that it's quite steep. Cycle lab charges R600 for boxing only.
  20. Have a look at The Bike Garage may have to offer. They have a page on the hub and you can also go to their showroom in Fourways. I got a gravel bike from them last year.
  21. I've been there. I moved from 127-95kg losing 4kg a month. I found that 4kgs was sustainable and I didn't to have anything crazy. So keep at it💪.
  22. Just adding to the conversation, with my comments only being limited to Chapmans Peak. The question about runners is the easiest to address as they are not allowed between the lookout (Houtbay side) and Noordhoek Corner. I could be wrong here... I don't think it's actually possible for a car to overtake a cyclist safely between the lookout and Noordhoek corner. By safely I mean, maintain 1.5m between car and cyclist and also not cross the solid line. And there is no way a car will wait behind my fat arse riding at 9km/h up Chapmans Peak. Riding single file assumes we are riding together. However, cyclist at times have to go past each other due to differences in speed uphill or downhill. But riding single file is a rule. So that means the racing snakes that frequent Chapmans Peak should sit quietly behind me as I pace them up Chapmans Peak at 9km/h if I hit the foot of the climb first. My view has always been that there are too many rules/laws which lack contextual understanding. Situations are not static and require at the very least, some basic intellect to ensure that all parties covered by the rules and legal framework get home alive. But people can be morons.

I join the rides from time to time. There are usually "group captains" who usually pace the entire route. They also have marshals who assist at the busy intersection and I believe they also provide support vehicles for the slower groups. Group start rolling at 06:00 from Cycle Lab and ride to the Caves and back to Cycle Lab. You can get more information on their website regarding the different groups. https://www.cyclelabactive.co.za/club-rides-fourways

The E2E rides are still a thing. The pace varies depending on the day of the week. I have never done the ride so I can't provide any guidance on which day would be ideal for you. You could also join the Saturday Cycle lab ride. They have a lot of groups that ride at different paces (23km/h to 33km/h). All the best.
  25. It turns out I was worried about nothing. I managed to fit a 53-39 comfortably. But I will swap it for a 50-34.
