  1. A light saddle is a pain in the ass.
  2. Hi All, I normally cycle at groenkloof during the week. from about 5pm onwards. Its usually very quite, bar one or two riders. Today, I took my family. It wasawesome. The kids have plenty of room to ride on the tar road thats closed off. Nice horse rides, and walks. I was honestly surprised at the great family venue it turns out to be on the weekends.
  3. Theres some good off road sections combined with tar in the area. I ride there often during the week (since I am a resident), but reserve weekends for longer rides on my road bike. Will post my route if anyone in the area is interested.
  4. Why will you look like a chop ? I could have spare bicycle parts in my garage that I need fitted when they break. When I need the work done, I take it in to the shop with my part . I have never had a problem. I could buy parts off the hub too, and then I need them fitted, which I have done.
  5. Shimano 540 or xt (520 is also good.) Great for mud xtr is not really worth the price for 50 grams, like the dude says, pick up some mud, and all the weight savings is gone.
  6. I never did the race, but want to say a big thank you to the marshalls.
  7. Some peeps are mechanically minded, others are not. Its the way of the world. Some people service their own cars, others take them in for an oil change and spark plugs. Same with bikes. If you are not mechanically minded, then you need to find a good mechanic/bike shop. Most shops will make good on any error they make. Be sure to take it back.
  8. To me this is going in circles. The straight forward answer is: 1) Roads are public in the cradle. 2) Rules of the road must be obeyed These apply to cyclists, drivers, any road user. There is no higher level of ownership of the roads in the cradle area.
  9. If it is George, then my father-in-law was cycling with him (George is his cousin). They were on MTB bikes. George said he needed to stop and collapsed. They tried to revive him without success. Really sad news.
  10. I have patched plenty of my road tubes with no hassles. My technique is glue on the tube, glue on the patch, put it under weight of a chair or similar overnight. In the morning got a good tube for use. +-R50 a tube is getting a bit expensive these days.
  11. The residents dont own the road. Its a public road with a cycling lane. Who does Dave think he is threating the lives of innocent cyclists.
  12. Life is a journey with a definite start and finish. Enjoy it and ride as often as you can
  13. The other option is to always have a new spare chain. Line the chain up against the old one. You may be suprised at how long the stretch can be on the full length of the chain, if you have not replaced your chain in a while.
  14. Reminds me of the time I cycled through man-poo, on a lonely single track. I swear to this day, my saddle bag still hones. That Sh#t smells real bad.
  15. I used to cramp. That problem went away as soon as I matched my training distance to my race distance, and trained more often. So if you preparing for the 94.7 and the longest rides you have been doing is 50km in a session, you could find yourself cramping. Perhaps the reason could be related to the fact that you are used to riding the shorter distance.Since it is a race, you may have pushed harder up to your base miles. Thereafter your body warns you, that you have pushed too hard. The advice that some have already mentioned, is to train for your races.
  16. i would not do it to save money. Rather to enjoy more daylight with the family and cycling. mudda2009-11-04 02:26:04
  17. I have thought about that too. The problem is that you need everyone to be on the same page. You work the same hours, except you just get more day light to live your life. Day light savings in africa is not gonna be happening soon. Sad but true.
  18. What are the opinions on: If a cyclist gets his support crew to follow him in a car, and they protect him from the back. He is in single file and obeying the law. Yet they are taking the whole lane, by obeying the law. The traffic must pass round them.
  19. Was the camera man still standing ?
  20. Try a sella italia trans am x-0 flow. ----------------------------------------------------------- Selle Italia XO Trans Am Saddle features a sober design, inspired by the traditional lines of Selle Italia products. The XO utilizes Flex Control padding which performs in a differentiated way in the more delicate anatomical places. It adapts to the needs of dedicated cyclists, and also those who ride for recreation. Trans Am Special strategically placed anatomical cutouts that improve comfort in the frontal soft tissue area anatomically designed for women and men.---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22000 I changed to this on my training MTB. Very comfortable. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Full/22000.jpg
  21. With respect to Private Property,a squatter camp in the vicinity does not make tresspassing more legal or less of a crime.
  22. Today at my lunch time ride, I saw a dangerous situation coming up. I was heading down a steep hill. A lawn moving service flat bed had stopped b4 a stop street on my way down. The driver just went, without seeing the speed I was travelling at. I had already seen this happening, and prepared for it. When i past the driver, I shouted a few words. I have realised that when you are on your bike, you must picture a bulls eye on your back. It makes you more alert.
  23. Motorists are way too tense. Rushing to where ever to save 5 - 10 minutes. Arriving there all agro cause some ladies and dudes were having a good ride on their bikes, and Adding to the profits of some coffie shop along the way. Probably enjoying some good conversation. I have yet to see motorists obeying the speed limit. Normally what happens is that some poor oke is following the speed limit, and then a driver behind gets all agro, cause he is driving too slow, and rides up the okes butt. Chicks in bmw's do this often. Now picture that driver arriving on some cyclists . The eyes probably flare red and the ears blow out steam. Such is life.
  24. MMmm, the outsurance race pack was good. Nice multitool I opened my pack today Family picked it up 4 me during the week. One of the better packs I have seen. A pity about the actual race.
