  1. When I was noob to cycling and had a R800 rand speed machine (about two years ago), I went to the lbs for a service. They replaced the vee-brakes without telling me and just placed it on the bill. The bill came to R500, The bike was worth about R800. I asked about light weight wheels, the owner was in the shop and just about ignored me. Maybe it was my bike ? he had some chirp, ya they are light and that was it. No explanation of weight, strength, etc, etc That was the last time I ever went to that shop. Since then, I have probably spent thousands on bike parts and bikes. I make a point never to use that particular bike shop again, ever. I wont name them, but maybe this post will make the bike shop peeps aware that all customers are important. Even if they are new to cycling and have *** bikes, since they could turn out to be very big customers later on.
  2. Tell him it will shave some weight
  3. The okes who dont greet are too obsessed with 2 seconds they may loose, by saying hello. Shame. Most MTB'rs I know recover by drinking beer after a work out. Thats why we greet, we may in up in the pub together.
  4. Place subject {something u believe to be true} here. When {something u belive in turns out false} place {dissapointment} here. so, u could {something u believe to be true}= "evolution" or it could be anything else. What ever floats your boat.
  5. Finding out something you believed in, was a big lie.
  6. In clarens in the freestate, all cyclists greet each other.
  7. There are ninjas everywhere! Brilliant use of a chain ring.
  8. what groupset ? The cheaper ones tend to do that.
  9. I like it. Congratz on the fix!
  10. LOL at the saying tyre direction on cars makes a difference. It only makes a difference in the wet, so that water can get displaced. I had semi slicks on my weekend race car, mounted them the wrong way round to have the wear pattern change. Made no difference to my lap times.
  11. Gear shifting on better components is hugely better. This is something that you can only appreciate after experience.
  12. This reminds me of a BMW with a motor plan. When motor plan is up, sell asap. O yes, and if you get stuck on the road, call roadside assist. Hehe I am sure its fine, but the manual stuff works and it works well
  13. Perhaps the new doping testing has eliminated some of the dopers ?

  15. When my bianchi cracked on the down tube, I know this is going to suck, but I chipped away the paint with my nail on the crack to make sure that it was a crack. I had to know for certain, so that just in case I am bailing down hekpoort hill and I hit those speed bumps, rider and bike will emerge as one, and not in three different chunks. It turned out it was cracked. You should not take any risks, have it checked out.
  16. I am just recovering from a friday Fall from the MTB bike. I have more falls on my MTB bike. Will it stop me cycling MTB ? I doubt it.
  17. Firstly, welcome to the cycling world! Dual susp is more comfortable, but costs more. Hardtails will get you anywhere a dual susp will. You will just be a little more shaken up when you arrive. The entry level gears on mtb's are exactly that- if you can, try get deore or better. If you are not yet sure where you want to go with your cycling - try a hardtail - before overcommitting on the finances.
  18. For the hairy dude If you are looking for a few rounds in the ring - I have a few cage fighting friends who will accommodate you. All you need to do is ask.
  19. Some humour and far-off cycle madness will be appreciated by me. use it, dont use it.
  20. The mentalist would be proud of the observations made
  21. Peeps were racing on v-brakes for a long time. Only real reason for disks is mud braking ability. Just dont brake when in the mud with vee-brakes - problem solved.

  23. When you are on a road bike, you will point out things to riders behind you. Pot holes, stones, rocks, uneven road surfaces On the mountain bike - you just ride over them. A lot less effort.
  24. There is a marketing term called "price leader" i.e. something is sold above at which it is worth, but what the market is prepared to pay. In essence since people are buying at that price - the price can remain that high. There may be much better value out there, but the marketing/hype/advertising has lead people to believe that they must pay that much. It does not only happen with bicycles.
