  1. For those of you who are coming down to Giba for the weekend .... here is a good deal for Valentines evening dinner at Giba ... And for the locals ... will be a cool evening - so come and support ... and have some AMAZING food. Just remember to BOOK!
  2. but its not a 29er??? hahahaha Nice Maxxis ...
  3. People dont like change - and as the track goes almost straight down the hill there were questions as to if it would promote erosion ... We will use the 2 top portions of fern hill and then link onto the Bizhub before the last piece through the ferns ... this will add some time to the stage and also use the fast peice of Gravity in the trees before the table into right berm ... which is always cool
  4. no nicko you will be fine - that trails easy to ride up with a single ring ... i prefer riding that trail up rather than going up the service road ... the service road SUCKS ass
  5. no we are having issues with the stupid horse lady ... so you will rode along the waterfall trail to where the combined finish area was on the Giba Enduro event, then left over the bridge and left again up what was the one stage in out Enduro ... that takes you up to Gravity.
  6. Cool - so basically we are trying to get it that an Individuals ride time is 2 hours ... with around 100 riders going off at about 30 second intervals this allows for an extra hour to get through all the competitors .. so the entire event lasts for 3 to 3 1/2 hours .... Done and dusted
  7. Nico the stages will be around 4 to 5 minutes each. The goal of KZN Provincial Enduro for this year is to grow the sport, with the Enduro being on the Saturday afternoon after the XCO event, it cant be an all day affair, So you get to practice in the morning (if you are not racing the XCO) and then race in the afternoon. We have worked out that 3 stages are fine for an event that needs to span 3 hours ... liason sections are 15 minutes generally speaking. So KZN MTB dont want to have the events too long and wear guys out - we want them to have FUN!
  8. enduro stages shown in red with access shown in Blue
  9. both the DH and Enduro will be on trails that are rideable on an AM bike - as Super Mill says the DH has no big hits in it ... 2 drop offs (that will be designed so you can roll them of you want - but at speed you float off them) ... and one double (with a B-line around it) ... the main thing with this track is its gradient ... Its STEEP! you are on the brakes from start to finish. The Enduro will use 3 stages - an edited version of Stage 1 (Gravity Dice) from the Giba Enduro, A shortened version of Stage 2, and then a brand new Stage 3. Stage 3 has 2 short climbs but other than that there is no climbing in the stages ... Stage 1 is FAST with an open natural section down a hill then onto a groomed trail with taletops, and then down a super fast section to the finish. Stage 2 is Technical with tight switches everywhere and a technical root and rock fest section that will test the riders skill to get through fast ... Stage 3 is all new - starting in an old platform area it drops off a couple of banks onto a FAST road with a flat out righthander at the bottom - will be interesting to see who can get this right at speed without washing out (DONT washout as you will slide on granite gravel that will eat you for breakfast - Giba Tattoos will be in effect if you come off here) ... then a left turn takes you onto Top Gear which has a number of tight switchbacks dropping you off the hill - they come up on you fast so be aware ... then a rolling final section through some rocks and up a short climb littered with roots takes you into the final downhill to the finish ... Its a rad stage

  13. if you include beer stops ... I think i will be on about 2000 to 3000 a month for Beer Beer Spares Race Entries Beer But that is for me and the wife ... so on a whole its not that bad ... Unless you take my December bicycle bills ... ... 1x new Santa Cruz Juliana (R60 000 odd) ... 1x new Devinci Wilson Carbon (R60 000 odd) ... that will push my yearly premiums up a bit
  14. Hey Guys and Girls See the following for the next provincial at Giba Gorge MTB Park! Remember to do your Pre-Entries as you need to show your slip at the gate or else you will have to pay R10 entry fee at the gate ... and then pay the late entry fee for the race too. See you all there. Saturday 15th February @ Giba Gorge KZN MTB EVENTS Cross Country – The XCO event will run a similar course to that of the previous event held in 2012, with a short start loop incorporating the factory and quarry area. The largest climb will come in the form of the Switchback Valley and Mainline Climb up to Mikes Drop with a fast decent back down to the Quarry to start the next lap. The course will be great fun to race and all are welcome to attend. Entries are on www.roag.co.za Enduro – KZN Mountain Biking have fully embraced the Enduro discipline and are hosting a Provincial Series in conjunction with the XCO on Saturday. The trails are EPIC for the Enduro with 3 stages planned to get the adrenalin pumping on some fast flowing trails. Although descending in nature the trails that will be used form part of the everyday park trails that all the riders enjoy, so this discipline is aimed at anyone who is looking for a fun day out on their bike. Entries are on www.roag.co.za Downhill – The Downhill event will be held on Sunday 16th with unofficial practice on Saturday 15th. The event will utilise a BRAND NEW track at Giba Gorge, incorporating some steep sections near the top and some fast flowing forest sections at the end of the track. Racing should be really tight on this new track. The track is exceptionally spectator friendly, so if you are not thinking of participating, bring the family and have a morning cruise in the park and then watch the racing unfold from around 12:30 onwards. Entries are on www.roag.co.za KZN MTB is also having a discounted entry fee special for 2014 – Enter for TWO events and get R100 off your purchase! 17. Proper dude - think of the overseas okes if someone is coming out to watch! Okes will be bummed
  18. http://www.uci.ch/Modules/ENews/ENewsDetails.asp?id=OTM3Nw&MenuId=MTI2Mjc here it shows 10-13 April - and this was published on the 21/June/2013 - BUT - this has been edited as Pinkbike who copied the press release still have the old date http://www.pinkbike.com/news/UCI-2014-World-Cup-Calendar.html Sorry for the confusion ... hope you can come right
  19. Velo - the date was changed by the UCI - not the organisers ... I dont know why ... the dates were initially released in July last year - with the change was made late last year in November, but the old dates were already out on the web and this is causing confusion. Sorry but that is just the way it is ... I have brought this up time and again at our meetings over the last couple of weeks as you are not the first person to have booked flights and accomodation etc based upon the UCI's initial preliminary schedule ... I asked for a new mail shot to go out to all the MTB sites etc, but as yet this has not happened. Hope you can make a plan and change your bookings. ...
  20. What so he can crash in the first corner again? hahaha
  21. Thanks Stretch Will PM you if we need help - but i think Nick has it under control ... AFAIK he is changing the whole XC track ... dont know how or what ... but he said he was bored of the old one so the riders will get something fresh ... Wish I could do the same with the DH - but oh well. @Grebel - The new sections on the DH will not be used for the events in March - they are to be built next to the existing track to open up more lines with more options for our future local races. I dont want to make the top too hectic that we cant use it - so we will be building new stuff specifically for World Cup
  22. Yeah its a bummer - but dont worry We have some cool stuff planned for the XCO course ... :whistling: The DH is also going to get a shake up - those guys planning to come on their Enduro bikes are going to be in for a surprise at the top!
