Do Merida not offer anything similar? My carbon Merida is a beaut. The ride quality is awesome.

I've also read that eating before a ride sends the bloodflow to your stomach to digest the food, instead of to your legs where you need it most. Don't know how true this is but it seems to make sense.

Guys we have a choice here. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you pay CSA. I see no value for my money, so I have never paid CSA. Each road race I do I just pay for a day license. If you wanna pay so the fat cats can get rich then go ahead, but don't complain about it as YOU have made the choice.

If you love it and can afford it then buy it. The happiness it will bring everytime you ride it with a stupid grin on your face with be worth the extra cash. Or you could spend less and always regret not getting it.

The Merida Scultura looks like a hot bike! I had an allu Merida (904 I think) a couple years back and it was baie mooi!

Merida, GT, KTM and Silverback all do good value for money dual suspensions. Look at getting a strong frame as that way you can always upgrade shocks and components over time. For me upgrading has become my hobbie on my road bike Front suspension wise look out for words like Fox, Rockshox and Manitou. For disc brakes go hydralic brakes over mechnical (cable operated). Component wise look out for Deore and above for Shimano, my SRAM knowledge is not that good unfortunately. For your height I would take a Large, but that's just my opinion- some guys like riding smaller frames when it comes to mtb. Find the bike you like (colour is important) and then spend a bit more on the higher model

You should be able to setup your FD to run like that, but you shouldn't ride it like that no matter what groupset you running. My bike sits like that when I'm not riding to prevent cable stretch. Cross chaining will decrease the life of your chain and cassette.
