  1. Rumour is next year it will be renamed Two Oceans Tour.
  2. Wow, Slowbee, this is the most angry I have ever seen you! I have been thinking a few days it would have to be cancelled (or at least shortened very significantly). I would love a gentle meander up the R27 like the West coast Express, and back down the N7 maybe, but every option involves a National Road, and that will just never happen.
  3. Who would have thought her starring in Angel Heart wouldn't be the biggest scandal of the Cosby show...
  4. You forgetting Zodiac and the Girl with some sort of Tattoo. and The Game, which I thought was great, even if it was a bit OTT. I haven't seen social network, mainly cos I have an inbuilt, irrational hatred of Zuckerberg thanks to never having bothered to learn how to Unfriend people. But I have heard it is actually very good.
  5. Because the screenplay was done by the author, take the plunge!
  6. I love a movie that doesn't cheat on it's premise or on it's own internal rules, that goes dark and stays dark and still surprises you. David Fincher must be the director with the most good movies at the moment. Even his worst (probably the Alien sequel) was interesting.
  7. Gone Girl is just brilliant, I loved it in the movies. Like Prisoners, it is dark, but so good.
  8. The original with Laurence Olivier and Caine in the Jude Law role, is probably even better. I have a habit of wasting money on obscure movies, and it is great if you can get it. I got a massive book called Roger Ebert's 4 star movies, and I bought a whole whack load of them off Amazon. There are some amazing older movies out there to watch. Some of the Brian de Palma movies I wasn't allowed to watch as a kid are just phenomenal. And even newer movies that either I missed or weren't released here like The Contender with Gary Oldman or Spartan are wonderful. But the mind-bending/mystery one I love, even though it's not the greatest movie ever made, is one called Triangle.
  9. in David millar's book he also comes across as a total know. In the TdF where he came fourth for garmin he apparently disappeared on the final lead out on the Champs d'Elysee without even trying, and then never even thanked the team for riding for him.
  10. I went on Sunday and just used my drivers
  11. Eish, I am sick as a dog and my doc prescribed Prednisone this morning. I am now officially on the banned list according to my Google. Not sure if I would be in a position to even attempt a hill at pace, sadly. (Given that I am now a banning-in-waiting, I have also taken some diet pills.)
  12. As long as the route is marked appropriately anything should be Ok. EG, if the Old Hoogekraal Widow maker wasn't marked in a race, it would be stupid, and irresponsible, but if there is a massive sign saying 'Drop off' or 'Danger' I'm happy. It's only hidden things that I can't see until I'm flying over my handlebars that bother me too much.
  13. You guys should try get hold of a book called 'Bounce' by Matthew Syed. He's a British table tennis camp who got to the Sydney Olympic and choked very badly, but it's a book that clarifies a lot more than that about sport, music, art being not just about hard work, but location, opportunity etc. Bloody good read.
  14. Best cycle race ever! What a brilliant event and I pray the Tour goes off like that... I support Froome, but gees, I'll never begrudge Alberto for the way he attacked on the downhill, and like it even more if he tells Froome to "go away". Love the attacking mind set... but at the same time you just have to admire the way the Skyborgs sit on the front of the peloton for hour after hour, and the way Chris took off on Day 2 was fantastic. Cycling as a sport looks healthy at the moment (with or without what may be going on in the background). May the Tour be as fun to watch!
  15. Gees, it's great when the one who deserves to win, wins... Respect!
  16. No, but if you ride with Thor Buttox, the disordiliness is bound to be worse (as you try to avoid the saddle)
  17. Admitting that Mayhem ensures disorderly riding??? (Oops, read to fast...)
  18. There has to be more reason than that specific letter to be a 'pillik'? And not sure how his contribution to cycling matters is ' legendary' in any way, cos I have no idea who he is. Mounting a molehill?
  19. Bollox! I had a very bad accident and smashed open my helmet behind my left ear on very sharp, dried mud where an earthmover, or something, had created tracks. Not a drop of blood, but a bad concussion. If I hadn't had my helmet on would have been horrible. Thanks, but no thanks, Mr Neuro-whatever
  20. In the old Cape Cobra race here in the Cape there is a section up a hill to the Military barracks above Simonstown where it hits 25% for a few hundred meters and it is just brutal. So this is mental!
  21. 10km at 12%...holy crap. I just looked at my profiles and the first 3km of the Tokai Mast from the start of the tar Road is at 10.8% average and that is hellish steep to me. The whole tar Road is at 9.6% average for 5.5km. (with Mtb gears)
  22. If it was a guy in blue, it might be me. But I got a monster scare myself when a fellow in light blue was going nicely down a straight gradual descent on the line, and then he just stopped for no reason at all. I did swear, but it was either either that or have to bathe my chamois for a good long time! Must also say most of the short route guys were in pretty good humour - just don't clench those brakes so hard. It is a lot easier at at speed.
  23. I love this race, and I may be called a pansy, but really liked the White lines marking the fast way down the steep stuff. Allowed me to go much faster than my normal wuss-factor speed
  24. +1 please don't take one extreme view to represent the masses. Every single race on here will have positive and negative comments. I loved the race, even though I had monumental thorn issues and I am not a fan of sand, and my shocks failed, and my wheel buckled. (Yes it was an adventure) Given the time of year that the race was, and the layout, it is a perfect course to start of on a longer than 60km race, and I have told all my mates who still do the short races that it is a lovely route. Not everyone needs a massively technical race to enjoy it. Thank you for your efforts!
  25. Sand is one thing, but I have a buckled wheel, buggered suspension and I stopped pulling out thorns cos my sealant couldn't keep up... I am either fat, or my bike is old. BUT I loved the race... yes, I would have loved more of the river section and less of the sand, but I thought it was an awesome ride for those of us who aren't that technically minded. Well done orgnisers!
