  1. The race site one has effectively TWO Helshoogtes at the beginning... lol. And I have replayed the decent off Hels from Die Burger in my mind's GoPro and I cannot remember a sharp incline after the descent... (but I may just have missed it from oxygen deprivation.) I still cling to your one as the better option!
  2. The profile DMC007 posted looks so much smoother than the one on the race site. I have decided to ride the one DMC007 posted...
  3. I think that there are quite a lot of guys on here who support you, and I am willing to bet that it will be much, much easier for you to put the record straight in the AGM by putting forward your ideas/plans/etc, with Meurant as an arbitrator? I also think from the reaction yesterday that there are a fair number of independents who have a lot more to input to this and have expertise to back you up (or not). I don't for one moment expert you to be happy about the tone of those original posts, but as much personal animosity you may feel, maybe keep it off this forum? My 2c...
  4. I did it in my car last week just to check it out when I was out that side, and I also thought there were a few areas that were a bit hectic with "exposed rock" that could catch you out. Hope the grading makes it ok.
  5. Great response, Fourie, thank you. I'll be there... as will 95% of the people here if the safety issue is addressed, I'm sure. And 6am is perfect!
  6. Yup... not quite the same now without the trees. But precisely the reason why the new builders should be given some credit, I think, cos they are not worse trails... just the surroundings have changed with the deforestation.
  7. My abiding memory of the old Snake trails was the Epic prologue a few years ago when a whole bunch of riders went arse over kettle on the one right hand corner which was quite nasty. That was when it was under cover and not exposed to the elements as now. Sometimes our memories are very selective.
  8. Cool, thanks, Rika
  9. If Jordan Belfort can do motivational speaking, I'm sure you could be on board...
  10. Hi, Rika, What would the process be for proxies, if you cannot attend? There are numerous guys that have emerged this morning who I would gladly have vote on my behalf... (probably cos they were all out on their bikes on the weekend.... )
  11. Seems like this thread is rapidly heading in the right direction, thank goodness
  12. +1
  13. If this was the tone of this thread from the beginning, everyone would be amped to work together and support. Honey, sugar, flies, and all that.
  14. Your response to my post is exactly what I mean in my previous post. Very civil, chilled, etc and exactly what I mean by consensus building. Except that have seen no evidence of the venom of which you speak. As a total independent, I have always seen or felt Deon to respond fairly politely on this forum. Rather don't being up the personal stuff, and get the likes of myself, Papa Bear, Porqui, etc on by presenting your plans at the AGM. We all seem to share the same concerns, questions, etc. And I love Meerendal and Contermanskloof. But I really think Boulders, My roots, Fairy Garden are much better. I just think those who have been involved deserve a few kudo's, cos the vast majority of us extremely average lads don't mind a pedal on a downhill, and battle with hectic trails at the best of times. But we we would always support a downhill mayhem track if we could become like Maritzburg
  15. Hi, all of you, I know none of the participants in this thread personally, but am an avid mtb'er. I am by no means a downhill maniac, but given that I ride with groups of beginner to average guys and gals, I think I have a reasonable understanding of what an average Joe like myself enjoys. And I would love to see Tokai as a Mtb paradise. First off, the tone of this "debate" is bulls**t from a few of you. There appear to be intelligent, eloquent views expressed on both sides, and it is quite possible that both have valid views. But those saying that the trails are crap after they themselves have voluntarily excused themselves from the process, and who then say that they speak on behalf of the Mtb majority need to get over themselves. I have been riding Tokai for 5 years now and the vast majority of the trails have improved nicely. I have only ridden the snake trails once or twice and they are not in great nick, but anyone with a modicum of common sense knows that given when they were built, with total exposure to the heat, on sandy soil, that they would not hold up well. I lot of the Contermans trails are also looking dodgy, and as far as I know they were built by "professionals", as some of you call them. But those making the ad hominem attacks on the current builders come across as 12 year-old narcissists who voluntarily withdrew from Xmas, and then who bitch and moan that they didn't get the biggest presents. And I'm not talking on the merits of the truth/facts/etc as I don't know them. I am talking about your ability to have a meaningful debate and create consensus. We ALL want great trails... On a practical matter: are their proxies available fro the AGM? I work odd hours and will not be able to be there, but even though I have no clue who he is, I would like "DJR" to vote on my behalf. And I really hope Deon reconsiders his deicision to step down. Good luck to everyone - cos I'm sure you are all a lot closer together on this than you think.
  16. Gees, reading these after a few hours from my safety post, and: A) i hope the races are not stopped again because the route is amazing, and i really hope Bay City shows how it can be done. It can start earlier. And there was a long gap between the Cat racers, as far as i could tell. I don't take part for place, so i have no idea of the benefits of racing on a tight course, but maybe we need to save the racing cats for the Winelands races so that we can all start earlier. B) i hope all the crashes weren't too serious and everyone is ok C) i just went straight passed the finish and didn't get a coke, medal, or any other drawer fillers , and it didn't ruin my day. It's just a Coke, guys.
  17. I really try not to moan about events cos I have an idea about how hard it is to organise an keep everything shipshape on our roads, but I almost got taken out coming through Fishhoek, and it was also adrenalin rush of note. Firstly, you can't have so few 'Cycle race in progress' signs, and you can't have them off the side of the road below the level of the road where you can barely see them. The Marshall were shocking ... Even some of the Metro police were confused. But I have a suspicion that that they just have their hands full with total, utter '530d's who drive on our roads. Yes, it is a small minority, but there were some serious candidates for euthanasia out there today
  18. Same thimg with me. I started in E but i am listed as c-d
  19. Given my name, I have suffered too... A proper measurement on the 'assometer' to measure my pelvic bones and a 15mm wider saddle solved most of my probs. And And some weight loss also helped, I think.
  20. I also had a shoe that was too tight, and had misery... with a new bigger shoe it's not an issue anymore.
  21. Good stuff, Thabiet! I hope this has a positive outcome for the Giants, and to those who are bringing your club into disrepute.
  22. Just let anyone ride in the Temp groups at the back?
  23. Look forward to hearing the outcome of your/your Team's meeting with Luc. Hope there is a proactive resolution. Happiness is... a safe ride!
  24. I'm speaking as an "independent", and only as one who is worried about cycling safety in races, may I offer the same sort of gentle advice you gave to the OP about how to react to a situation: don't play the "alleged" card. Jump on this... for all of us who love our cycling, and our little races.... er... funrides.
  25. If you are talking about the road before the left turn onto the freeway, that intersection is a massive pain as a cyclist cos we need to go straight which means riding in the middle of the road for a bit as we near the robots
