  1. Yes- IDT is worse on the bum than riding mtb for me, enough time on the saddle will eventually lead to a sore ass, its one of the cyclist's rites of passage(article in an older bicycling mag)
  2. I think it depends on your motivation too. I do 10-12 hours a week on the trainer and one long ride outside on the weekends, mostly because I can't do my intervals or steady state training the way I should when I'm on the road!! If I have a specicic amount intervals to keep my mind occupied it is not bad to ride for 2hours, I don't even watch movies or tv anymore, when I have to look at heartrate, cadence, power, time, all those details, I don't have time to watch the movie and drift off anymore!! But if I just "ride" for 2hours, it feels like I'm going to die of boredom!! So before starting the training on the IDT, set your goals/intervals and then start, don't just ride....that works for me!!
  3. Hi guys, I want to sell my 2009 Raleigh RM XO carbon frame, 18" medium, with Ritchey stem/handlebar and seatpost, 2 bottlecages and headset.. All in good condition, nothing wrong, just got a 29er and keeping the parts as spares. Any ideas on the price I could get for the lot?? Thanks
  4. Hi guys, I've read all your post cause I'm doing the epic for the 1st time as well, been training indoors for the whole of 2011, 10+ hours a week( 3 arm breaks-frustrated ) and my coach is planning BIG weeks over december/january, my partner and I are looking to race it hard and wants to be prepared for the toughness of it!! Glad I read the experienced epic rider's post, know that 20+hour weeks aren't necessary..thanks guys!! Good luck for the training and see you there :-)
  5. That's true, the one part of the farm is used for hunting, but the biggest part is actually there for gamedrives and hikes ect, thanks for the heads up kosmonooit!! Ill let my uncle know about all the replies and feedback, I also think that a "stage" type thing would work, maybe do a ride to point A on the farm and camp/stay one night and then move on to next one on day 2 or whatever the case is!! The singletrack is a concern at the moment yes, he really needs to do it well, the terrain and scenery is there to use so ja!! Thanks guys
  6. Hi guys, i want your opinion on something please. My uncle wants to turn his farm in Limpopo into a "getaway" for the outdoor lovers. His idea is to have a lot of jeep tracks on the farm(+_2200 hectares) going through awesome terrain and great scenery, through some of the mountains/valleys and rivers which they have. There would be sections to do some nice technical singletrack and downhill as well. Basically you can do anything from 20km up to 50km without doing one route twice. There is overnight facilities in either the selfcatering cottages or camipng for those who would prefer to tough it out. In the winter there is also the opportunity to hunt impala, kudu, waterbuck, bushbuck, wildboar, bushpig, warthog ect. Fishing on the river or in the dam is also really great with big kurper and catfish amongst other. Its a place you can take the family and enjoy a weekend away from the city rush. Its not a commercial place like "forever resorts" for example, its privately owned/run.... feedback and tips would be greatly appreciated guys, suggestions or any alternatives you would like to add. Its 40km from Potgietersrus(2:30 hrs from pretoria) thanks
  7. But I saw one on chainreactioncycles.com for around R3200 and evanscycles.com for about R4000, but will check out the one on the hub!!! Thanks
  8. Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a trainer for my training during the week, a have a cheap magneto trainer that I use now, but its not smooth or comfortable at all. Was looking at a few trainers on the web, would like to get away under R4000 with the powermeter/Heartrate and everything included. Any suggestions-or reviews on the one you are using?? Thanks
  9. Hi guys,I know its a late reply, but me and my dad just did mariepskop this morning( he is 48), what a monster, we planned the trip after reading this post on the hub!! Just wanna know, is there any climbs you know of which is worse than that??
  10. I thought this was going to be a big debate between the two groups- 29er vs 26, but I also agree, for us "normal" okes, it would come down to the personal choice, and if its worth the money in the end!! I still think I'd be better off with the 26inch and maybe spending money on a nice trip or few components and such!! Thanks for all the replies-the hub has a way of sorting things out FOR you!!
  11. you're telling me, i did'nt even stress this much on any of my exams(yes Im still a student). The options are endless and opinions even more......
  12. I also heard that the weight and specs are not yet perfected on the 29ers so ja?? what do you mean by "maxing your bike"?
  13. have to admit, that "no" was my initial reaction too, but then all the bloody pro's and the who's who started riding/advertising/ recommending the 9er, and all the reviews pointed towards the 9er, so was really leaning towards it, but like you said, there is really nothing wrong with my bike, doing the jock next week on it as well-haha!!
  14. Hi guys, i dont know if there has been a topic about this yet, so if there was one, sorry about the double then! I currently have a Raleigh Rm XO, 2009 model, with XO/XT combination parts, mavic 717 rims ect, really not bad components I think?? I do a few races throughout the year and the biggest ones- Sabie in December and Lesotho Road trip with a friend or 2 in January. doing about 12 to 15 hours a week on the bike(if that helps anything). A friend who has done the epic and pioneer last year along with lots of other big races, and doing pretty well in a few of them, he says 29er is the way to go now, he is riding a scott spark limited and 2other bikes at the moment, so no worries in the money department for him when we decide to upgrade. I dont have money lying around or anything so would like other opinions from you guys before i make the decision, which basically comes down to this: Is it worth selling my bike and adding R15000 or whatever the case is, to buy a 29er. Would I benefit THAT much on the 29er?? if you can suggest a few 29ers under R30000 i would appreciate it. thanks
  15. Hi mtbN00b, can you send me the details of your tour?? i love doing stuff like that and i am very interested in any new tours without having to pay crazy prices to race organizers!!thanks a lot
  16. Brilliant, thanks man, will check it out!!
