  1. Crrrrrap, price would've been spot on!! but thanks for the input, ill keep my eyes on the classifieds....
  2. we went hiking in Lesotho in December, it would be pretty tough, but crazy NOT to try it..good idea to maybe start there, not as many cars and taxi's etc on the roads, just the occasional donkey or 2...thanks hey
  3. "OP" shhort for ?? im not going to spend R30k on a pm, but if its possible to get a nice PM for around R10k it would be perfect...
  4. That is a steep amount for any of the combinations... anyone know if 2nd hand pm would be worth the money..given it is properly cared for etc?
  5. But quality and spec-wise, the garmin doesn't come close to the SRM/ SRAM pm or does it?? Its a huge difference in price for a PM!!
  6. That's cool, some competition then!! Any idea on the price and price per serving!!
  7. Cool beans, will go and have a look!! Thanks, and what about 2nd hand PM'ers?? Good idea or not really??
  8. Hi guys, I have a tacx flow trainer with the powermeter and used it through the winter, awesome toy!! Now I'm leaning towards a powermeter for my mtb before the epic and sabie, I know you get PM for hubs and cranks, but have no idea on price/model of them!! I want to download the data of my laps/races etc on my pc from the PM. And have, cadence/speed/heartrate calories, ascent/descent and all those little details if possible!! Any suggestions?? Or refer me to a previous post if the question has already been asked!! Thanks a lot guys
  9. I also had a shocker with cycle lab a while back!! Gave my parents' and my bike in for a service( R500 each) and the phoned me 3days later and said my chainrings( ALL 3) are finished and I need new ones. I told the guy to just service it and I will change the chainrings when I have money again. My dad ( who doesn't really know the whole mtb scene/prices) went to pick them up a week later, and they put on the chainrings anyway, and MY bike's total was R1455. They told my dad they talked to me about it, so he paid it and that's about it!! I was beyond mad and had a huge fight with the manager-but ja- needless to say, I never even went window shopping there again!! Pretty dissappointed in them..
  10. If there has been a topic like this before, please let me know!!
  11. Hi guys, we live in THE BEST country in the world in my opinion. Me and my dad have been going on 3-4 day trips on our mtb's since I was in grade 12, doing about 120km a day!! Sleeping at the town we are closest to at around 2/3 a clock in the afternoon, and just seeing new places and enjoying the scenery!! I want to do more of these trips around SA, preferably going on holiday on my bike and then my mom coming through with the car/clothes etc later on!! Do you guys do trips like this as well?? If so, can you give some tips about routes, I don't want to ride on tar roads, so gravel only, don't mind taking the long/toughest route, just want to ride and see places!! Is there any website/book that has routes to use which is only farms roads etc?? The whole idea is to basically do a "multi-stage" type of thing with 1/100th of the cost...just riding for fun!! Any feedback...?? thanks
  12. I had a few arm-breaks in the beginning of the year, and had to do the whole indoor trainer thing for almost 7months straight!! I bought a Tacx Flow trainer, excellent toy for not a lot of $, the one's above that is about R5000 more for not that much difference I think, if you want to spend R10000 + you're welcome, but I got mine for R4300 from the shop and never looked back!! PM me if you want training plans for indoor trainers..no problem!! Cheers

  14. Haha-nice!! Guess that's why most guys buy new bikes- we want one!!
  15. Well done little grasshopper-haha Just kidding! How was it though, most people who think they know a lot about cycling says that you should be older and so on to do races like the comrades and epic ect?? How did you find it on the body?? Probably the same as everyone else hey??
  16. Looks like the $ost guys says stick to the 26 dualie!! To give a a background ot the bike-its got A LOT of km on it but has full X0 groupset(2011 models) rock shock SID WC front shock and DT swiss Nude rear shock, ztr alphine rims, and yes, that's about it!!
  17. Hi Deon, I also think you should switch/change your chainrings and casette's ratio rather than buying a new crank, it will be cheaper!! And try looking at the 2010 footage, some MASSIVE climbs in the pioneer, rather have too many gears than too little halfway up the climb, just to save a few grams on the bike!! Good luck with the race, hear its a tough but awesome one!!
  18. Good looking machine, good price as well!!
  19. +1 for the spark 30. Scott really hit a homer with the spark range- top stuff!!
  20. Hi guys, I'm riding the epic next year, and as you know it cost just short of a 3bedroom apartment in the KLOOF so I have to spend wisely... I have a 26inch soft-tail (2009 model) which I can use, but was wondering if I wouldn't be better off getting a 29er of about R15000-R18000 and doing it on the hardtail?? I'm 21 years old so no back-pains ect yet!! Any advice or experience from your side?? Thanks
  21. My coach wants me to record my resting heartrate every morning when I wake up and give him feedback of how I was feeling, how many hours I slept, and feeling during training, I thought it was WAY too much trouble being a student and asked him why, he said the resting heartrate is your body's way of saying how much you've recovered from yesterday, so if your HR is avg 45, and you wake up with a 55/58, I can bet you that you'll be feeling "different/sluggish" on the bike today, my resting heartrate is about 40/42, and after a big night out or a long 10day training block without good sleep, my rate bumps up to around 48/50, and then I know I'm gonna struggle with the sets today cause my body is tired!! And as you get fit your RHR will drop, but is not the ONLY factor to measure your fitness, some guys just have different DNA and body composition, so will have higher max/min heartrates with the same fitness as others riders performing the same on the road!!
  22. Hi, I'm also a big IDT fan, 90% of my training is indoors!! What he means by 44 is its the big chainring in front, and then he switches between the gears at the back to compensate for the resistance he wants!! I have a Tacx Flow trainer with a powermeter and all that stuff and let me tell you, it was worth every single penny I spent, even being a 2nd year student with low budget!! So ja.. Try and stay focused on intervals or target specific training rather than just riding for 2hours, or put m movie on to play in the background!! Good luck.. And enjoy it
  23. I would not be here today if i trained on rollers...its too difficult and i would focus too much on staying upright than actually training!!I train on a Tacx Flow trainer, brilliant buy....
  24. Yes- IDT is worse on the bum than riding mtb for me, enough time on the saddle will eventually lead to a sore ass, its one of the cyclist's rites of passage(article in an older bicycling mag)
  25. I think it depends on your motivation too. I do 10-12 hours a week on the trainer and one long ride outside on the weekends, mostly because I can't do my intervals or steady state training the way I should when I'm on the road!! If I have a specicic amount intervals to keep my mind occupied it is not bad to ride for 2hours, I don't even watch movies or tv anymore, when I have to look at heartrate, cadence, power, time, all those details, I don't have time to watch the movie and drift off anymore!! But if I just "ride" for 2hours, it feels like I'm going to die of boredom!! So before starting the training on the IDT, set your goals/intervals and then start, don't just ride....that works for me!!
