  1. There's also a track near the varsity hockey fields / tennis courts on Francois Road. Short (about 2km's) but very scenic.
  2. Haven't run it before, but been there a few times. Nice enough spot. You should be able to get some good running in there. You can also check out Burman Bush in Morningside.
  3. Very observant! My pics were on the Saturday so Splat's must have been from practice.
  4. Were you one of the guys with the 'Emily drives me batty' shirts that accosted her after the prize giving? Thought it was classic that she had time to take some pics with her fans and sign some autographs. Great chick!
  5. This chick can ride!!!
  6. That's how I actually noticed this. I was re-aligning the derailleur and I noticed it rubbing when checking the low limit screw. I could maybe push the derailleur outwards, but then the chain will be rubbing against the inner derailleur plate instead of the frame?
  7. Thanks man - I'm going to take it in to the LBS on the weekend and see what they think. The consensus so far seems to be that I need a spacer to move the chainline out a bit away from the frame.
  8. The 60km is tough. I'd recommend you stick to the 40km - you'll still ride most of the good stuff and you'll enjoy it more.
  9. Hi Guys, I've noticed that my chain rubs up against my bikes frame by the bottom bracket when I'm in the small chainring up front (irrespective of the gear selected at the back). It's just touching so it's rubbing very lightly, not drastically. I'm currently running a Truvativ Noir Crank on my Zula with an XT drive train. Is this normal? Can I add a spacer to increase the gap? Cheers, Paulo
  10. I did this recently and replaced with the XT jockey wheels. The seals on the upper wheel are useless rubber washers that let all sorts of grime in. Really not happy with them, so in the future I'll look at the BBB / TACX options.
  11. +1!!
  12. That doesn't look like damage from a once-off incident - looks like someone took a file to it. I'd also lean towards damage on the bike rack, but with that amount of rubbing the other bike should have clear signs of damage as well. Strange...
  13. Rode the yellow route again yesterday. Signage is much better, just the one sign at the 18km mark is on a post that is obscured by sugar cane. NicJ - great job on the routes. Yellow is riding really nicely and really appreciate your efforts. Only issue is the coffee shop, or lack thereof. What happened the guys that were selling the chicken / steak rolls? We were keen on a cup / two and a quick bite after our ride but everything was closed.
  14. I came across a Mozam Spitting Cobra over a blind rise in Giba once. Sh@t in my pants!!! Luckily the oke was chilling coiled up in the middle of the path so he didn't seem to mind me squeeling like a girl and crashing through the bushes to avoid him
  15. Best to measure yourself though cos the circumference varies depending on tyre choice, pressure, etc.
  16. Interesting... So how do we figure out which program is most accurate then?
  17. Hey Guys, So with all these different tools to track your ride available, I've noticed huge differences in the ascent reported. We've always used my Polar as base but now a few guys are using iPhone apps and Garmins and all of the calcs are way out. For example, my Polar will report 650m of ascent while Strava reports 1200m?? Cheers, Paulo
  18. Giba have recently re-done a lot of the signage. Much better than before. Think they've received a lot of flack for it in the past.
  19. Hey Guys, I've currently got an XT 9 speed drivetrain with a Noir crankset (also 9 speed) and I'm in the market of a new rear derailleur, cassette, chain and shifters. I could get the 9 speed replacement parts, but for a bit extra I could move up to the new Dynasys 10-speed parts. I don't want to replace anything on the front if not necessary to try keep costs down. From what I've read, this should work ok (barring some potential downshifting problems on the front), but: a) Has anyone got any personal experiences that can confirm this? B) Will a 10-speed front shifter work with a 9 speed front derailleur? c) Do you get 10-speed chainrings for non-Shimano cranks (I can't find any online)? Thanks! Cheers, Paulo
  20. While we're throwing suggestions out there... 1) Yellow on white and white on yellow are not a good idea. 2) Maroon, red and purple all look pretty similar when you're screaming past a sign-board at 60km/h. 3) When you get to an intersection with 6 paths, place the signboard next to the path you're supposed to take, not 3 across with an arrow pointing right that leaves 3 options on the table.
  21. Very cool footage and a refreshing approach to covering a race. None of the usual idle banter with the guys on the start line, etc. Definitely got me keen to enter next year!!
  22. Must be a spread of some sort of mad-cow-disease causing all of the sales. That's the only reason I can think of!
  23. Good to know
