  1. Hi Will have to change the title of this thread. Here is a short video of the part build of my third recumbent. A shorter wheelbase than the previous bikes and slightly different steering geometry
  2. Hi Brakepad. Point well taken. I used the tires that I had from a donor kiddies bike. Since making the video I have changed the back tire and noticed the difference in speed and will now change the front tire.
  3. Thanks...Yes ..... I will have to change the title. I am halfway through building the third one (a short wheelbase recumbent his time )
  4. Hi I have uploaded a short and very amateurish video documenting part of the build of my second recumbent. https://youtu.be/1va9Lo_toHw
  5. Have got the building bug. My first recumbent has just over 1000 KM on it and nothing has broken yet. I have hopefully learnt some lessons from the build and incorporated them in my new carbon recumbent as well as taken a little bit of a leap into the unknown and made the back dropouts out of carbon fiber . Painted the bike white to make sure that any cracks or breaks in the carbon fiber show up before any outright failure.
  6. I did not arrive on this planet at the age of 64 ... I think that it was a little bit before I turned 64 that I arrived here and started experimenting with being a vegetarian???? As you say "challenges " not absolutes. Perhaps the challenges are precisely because of the way we have become used to eating loads of meat and neglected developing our use of other sources of nutrition ( which are also possibly more balanced and less harmful to us ) .
  7. Some gladiators were slaves, some were not ..and even the slaves were very prized 'possessions" more often than not to be kept in peak physical condition. I suppose because of the idea that humans cannot live healthily without eating meat, at I 64 I had better start taking taking supplements because of my vegetarian (note not vegan) diet and I will have to convince the millions of healthy people in eastern and some European countries that despite the fact that they have lived long and healthy lives without eating meat they need to to now taking supplements.
  8. I understand that from all evidence available that Roman gladiators were vegetarian. Some of the Buddhist monks that I knew were life long vegetarians and lived in places where there was no such a concept as "supplements " never mind actual supplements
  9. you will just end up with expensive urine
  10. HI I am hoping to use 20 inch wheels, they are strong enough to take the sideways forces when cornering a trike
  11. Thanks ...I googled "track bikes " opens up a whole new world of possibilities
  12. Thanks FrancoisdeVille and 100tours. The "Lefty " sounds very promising and I will look for two. I am sure that I will be able to modify one to take an axle and freewheel while the other remains free to spin (only need a single rear drive wheel )
  13. Thanks ........ I have been trying to source wheelchair hubs but can only find whole wheelchairs for sale which makes the project too costly and wasteful
  14. Hi Graham -Thanks but I do not know what a lefty hub is .... Regards Pierre
  15. Must be some incredibly expensive European hide-away for millionaires
  16. well done with the photography....but does the lone rider have some assistant patiently waiting for the right time to take the photo..credits to that person as well .
  17. I am about to build a delta trike similar to the Hase kettwiesel (two rear wheels, one front wheel ) for somebody who has balancing problems . Does anyone know where I can buy rear wheel hubs for the trike (in other words hubs that connect on one side only to the bike frame )...or alternatively does anybody know of somebody who has modified ordinary hubs (perhaps BMX hubs ) to use on a trike Thanks in advance
  18. Sorry Wannabe .. I now see your note that the incident will be reported tonight.............do not let the police draft the affidavit that goes in their report file, They often write the affidavit themselves to try to be helpful and then ask the complainant or witness to merely sign affidavit....often with bad consequences later on when it is found that the affidavit is not perfectly correct. Rather sit quietly somewhere and prepare an affidavit and map of the accident scene before visiting the police station
  19. It is a criminal offence to leave the scene of a traffic accident you were involved in before talking to the police ( if you are not in need of medical care ). The accident should be reported to the Camps Bay police station as soon as possible and the person reporting it should get a reference number for the report. It is a very easy matter for the police to track the owner of the vehicle from license plate numbers and that is what they will do. Also vitally important to get a police report number for any insurance or medical aid claims that needs to be made later
  20. Really nice looking bike
  21. There are so many "scientific " researches for as well as against eating meat and other animal products ..........very few do not have a hidden agenda ranging from a relatively excusable sub- conscious bias to downright fraud in promoting commercial interests ... that plus the fact that we do not know everything about ourselves and our place in the world (even though we would like to believe otherwise ) means IMHO that we do not have much hope of arriving at some universally true and everlasting definitive answer. What I can rely on (and strictly for my own purposes ) is personal experience ;- 1. ...I am 64 years old and still very fit and able. During various periods I have been strictly vegetarian for years at a time....the last stint of vegetarianism lasted 7 years but then I succumbed to convenience and "not being the odd one out " Now I am back to being vegetarian I was definitely more healthy (and had less common ailments such as colds etc ) after I had been vegetarian for some time and over the last 25 odd years there has been a definite correlation between my blood pressure levels and what I eat . High blood pressure is hereditary in my family and my father died age 65 after a coronary thrombosis. As long as I stick to a whole food, whole grain vegetarian diet, (no refined stuff ) my blood pressure is perfect (in the region of 120/70.) At one stage during a vegetarian stint of approximately 3 years I worked as lumberjack ...despite incredibly demanding physical work there were never any problems because of my vegetarian diet . 2. I am not comfortable when I see the suffering caused to animals in commercial farming and transport to places where they are killed ...especially when I realize that I do not have to eat meat and be party to the cause of such suffering .
  22. I can only agree with what PhilipV and Zebra says In this unprecedented enviroment that we are in and consequent problems with stock supply by suppliers to established retailers , the problem you have is even more pronounced ........................it does however at the same time present an opportunity for someone who is prepared to spend time and effort to build up contacts for resourcing hard to find supplies ( if necessary from other retailers ) for frustrated customers. Possibly the only viable option while you are building up such a network, would be partnering with some established retailer. If you can approach them on the basis that you can compliment what services they can give to prospective or existing customers (either by operating in a different geographical space or service offering ) and at the same time not cost them money or directly compete with them ...they could be put in a position of having to say why not give the proposed association a chance .
  23. Thanks Zebra
  24. Really looks good -did you get it professionally resprayed ?
