  1. What distance you doing? Ultra, full or half?
  2. I rode this for the 1st time with my 29er with Knobblies... Was sitting behind a lady on a roadbike and every know and then she showed with her hand toward the ground, after about 3 times I realized she is pointing out "hazards", which to me, obviously goes unnoticed on the mtb. Almost felt I should do the same... didn't though. Edit: No roadbike behind me, that's why.
  3. Exzackery. Hout Bay, isn't any closer... Will decide in the week if my pocket can handle it.
  4. Please explain clearly what you visually experienced on that day. Maybe take a couple of minutes, maybe write in MS Word and copy and paste hereto. But you are not helping your credibility by saying you saw what happened and not explaining in clear and unambiguous terms.
  5. You're kidding right? For "lashing out"/swearing/zapping you now deserve to be beaten with a bicycle and fists and pepper sprayed... Sure buddy. This mentality will make this angry and vigilante-obsessed problem never-ending.
  6. The club first of all, condoned the attack by stating that they were tired and provoked etc... Second, if the club knows the cyclists (and I think it's clear that they do) in the video, instead of trying to defend their actions, should rather revoke memberships and provide the names and details of the cyclists in the video to the warrant officer. Maybe get an official statement from their own members and not just saying they were "provoked".
  7. Correct, in English Law, provocation is a defense in a murder case. If successful, perpetrator may be found guilty of manslaughter. As SA criminal law is not codified, we rely on common law. Thus English Law may be applicable. See also case of Chretien, 1981... my input for the day, NOT AT ALL condoning the actions (or reactions if you want) of these scumbag-angry-douchie roadies in the video).
  8. This is not the time or place for logic...
  9. The route is fine during the day, enough traffic to keep it safe. Even this morning at 5:30 I saw people were cycling more in groups. Lots of cyclists on this part of the road at 5:30 am, which means it's safe enough.
  10. No, here in slaapstad it is still pitch black outside at 5am...
  11. This is f****ng sick. I probably passed you sometime before that. I left Hout Bay 4:40am. Glad you're okay.

    Xterra Grabouw

Yoh, the full was tough for me yesterday. Did not train nearly enough. Just stoked I finished the swim without having to hold on to a paddleski, and finished the race as well. And I forgot to put on sunscreen...ouch. Amazing scenery! Fantastic Xterra.
  13. Don't know what you've heard, but mtb'ers in South Africa is rarely "packing". Mostly motorbikers and "pedestrians" trying to obtain a bike or something is packing, then it's a 9mm or so
  14. Has there happened anything since? Case opened, Description or phone number/ email address of this guy etc etc?
  15. So. many. trails. I have been here for 7 months and I have not even done them all yet! 1 ride won't cut it. But if one ride only... Jonkershoek? It's nice close by Somerset West.

    Argus 2014

Ya haha. But in "their" defense, it's swept away now and then, but in a couple of hours it's back to "beachy" road. City should sweep and then organizers should have a guy with a hose pipe standing there on the Sunday keeping the sand wet as not to be blown into the road.

    Argus 2014

I am never in Hout Bay during the day in the week. Are there actually any working going on on Chapmans? Or have they decided to leave that last few turns a single lane and start with road works after the Argus?
  18. Thanks and thanks. Guess I'll start downloading my gps data onto strava. Or just keep bragging about my immense elevation gains.
  19. Hahahahahahaha! Moer funny. Coffee on the keyboard now. But, Francois Marais said you were a big oke between 100 and 140 kg's. How much do you really weigh?
  20. On a more serious'er note. I think my STRAVA is broken. I do a normal chilled ride from Camps Bay to (almost) bottom of Chappies on Noordhoek side and back, and my total ascent is 2200m. Now that can't be right. Thats a lot for a 45km ride. It does this every time (Strava phone app). Is it the mountains/cliffs that's buggering with my phone's/stravas altitude meter or is there something wrong with my phone? When I ride with my phone and a Bryton, the bryton for example will show total ascent of 700m and my Strava (on the phone app) will show about 1700m climbing. Anyone had similar experiences?
  21. Sorry for the Hi-Jack. HIJACK on: Which slicks would you guys recommend for a 26" HT? Do you get really thin ones that will fit on a mtb rim? or are the slicks for a mtb still quite thick(ish) ? Anybody have any really cheap really light complete wheels with slicks for a lightweight lady (my fiance). PM me Thanks. HIJACK OFF.
  22. No, closer to Llandudno. Couple of 100m's past turn-off coming from Hout Bay toward campsbay
  23. Friday, and Valentines. There's gonna be a couple to choose / chose / tchoos from...
  24. Saw a cyclist lying next to the road. Couple of cyclists and a car that was standing there. Ambulances came past on my way to the city. Anybody know if the person is OK? And what happened? Was covered in a blanket lying on a woman's lap. Arms in the air, so did not look fatal.
