  1. Is the 40km the same route as last year?
  2. Substitution available. I won't be able to ride on Sat. So if someone still wants a 40km entry PM me. I would only like to cover my entry costs.
  3. Will there be registration on the day like last year?
  4. Can you collect your goody bags, distance & seeding stickers on race day? or only at the shops listed?
  5. There are a couple of routes along the railway lines you could try, a bit difficult to describe but if you look at satelite images on Google earth or maps you should be able to work something out. The dirt roads in that area are also used quite a bit by quad bikers and are often marked with painted arrows and coloured stickers to show the routes they take. I'm not sure how safe the routes are but I've not heard of any hi-jacking or other incidents in the area.
  6. Anyone know what time the gates open on weekdays and weekends? Guess, if you get a 10 ticket pass, as soon as it is light? I'm thinking about some early morning rides befoe work now that it is light so early in the morning.
  7. You might even get a new bike out of it!
  8. Definitely something seriously wrong with this. I was glacing through the local paper the other day and there appear to be no sense in some of the sentences given out by magistrates. The case I noticed for a prison term for someone who stole R102 worth of chocolate and cheese from the local Checkers. I don't know what the guy did in the past but that seems a bit harsh especially if you aren't jailed for killing someone.
  9. Any idea when and where the races in these series take place?
  10. Believe me the Dogma will be cheaper than the bimbo in the long run!
  11. I saw on their website that only RaceTec timed race are used for 94.7 seeding. Anyone got a list of Racetec races for the year?
  12. Is this years route the same as last one? I only ride the Argus every few years and get confused by all the talk of route changes. As anyone got the route available in a format that I can import into my Garmin Edge 305?
  13. It's still dark at 5am! Do you ride on the road or off-road? From Parkrand have you tried the dirt roads in the mealie fields south of Sunward Park? And for longer rides the routes the quadbikes take towards the Suikerbosrand?
  14. I always find the hardest race is the one I am riding
  15. How much advantage do you get from slipstreaming a skinny guy? rather slipstream a big guy! Going downhill do bigger guys have an advantage more potential energy to convert to kinetic energy?
  16. Then you HAVE TO enter the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic at the end of Feb... The organisers are all licensed cyclists (well most of them anyway) and every club member assists with the marshalling, so they understand the pothole issue and marking of hazards on the route. They also sweep all corners free of sand, glass, and other hazards. The entire route is checked the day before the race, and re-checked on race-day. There are more entries than the Emperors race, so you'll have the luxury of the slower bunches should you get dropped. But being a relatively flat course, that hardly happens to the majority. Also, it's the last official race (in Gauteng) before the Argus. What else can I say? And for a longer ride don't forget the Ride for Sight...
  17. Is there full road closure? There wasn't last year on the N17. And is there number collection on the Saturday or race day? Only Thursday and Friday are given on the Cyclelab website. And the times are between 10:00 and 16:00, so time off work needed.
  18. I was always told that runners, joggers and walkers should be on the "wrong" side of the road so that they can see (and avoid) oncoming traffic. So no excuse for them not making space for you.
