  6. chatted to a guy from JHB over the week end about the emmerentia dam and I didn't realise it's quite a small dam. I did a nice swim in the breede river on Sunday. Only did about 1.5km I think but it was really nice ot get into the open water and not have the walls ever 25m. The water was a bit cooler which was nice so I could practice breathing etc. I'd love to live with a nice stretch of open water at my front door to swim every day
  7. go work for government
  8. awesome
  9. This will be awesome. 4000 is a lot of people though. Would love to say that I'lll go support it but our first child is due that time so not much chance.
  10. went to the doc and he recons it's just a muscle pinching somewhere. No worries about the neck
  11. how about the following: swim: at campsbay beach cycle: the argus route (or part thereof) run: the two oceans half route

  13. agreed. lay off the supplements, drink loads of water, eat well, rest and get a massage. Then when you start again take it very easy with light gears
  14. I've only cycled once the night after a bit too much wine and I felt crap. Didn't help that it was a hot day but I never did it again
  15. might be a similar situation to the big tours in europe. They'll have to disqualify every team with a photo that shows even one team member over the white line if they want to be consistent. Could end up with the 50th placed team taking the win:)
  16. Before I give details or get told to go the doctor, I have made a doctors appointment for later today, but I am curious to know if anyone has experienced the same thing. I did a really long 10k pool swim last week sat, double my longest previous distance. I had no real pain after the swim and my shoulders were pretty good. Even until today, a week later, there is no real pain. BUT, since the swim, if I tilt my neck forward then I get pins and needles around my neck area and down my arms to my hands. Only lasts a couple of seconds and there is no pain at all. Just the strange feeling. I can’t recall hurting myself in the last week either so I am thinking it may have been the swimming. I’ve been told by a biokinetist that it’s probably a pinched nerve some were. My shoulder muscles are very stiff at the moment and could do with a massage. But has anyone ever had the same feeling or experienced the same thing perhaps
  17. can admin delete this thread perhaps and kep JGR's
  18. Let see if this can stay positive
  19. free = freestyle at an easy pace moderate = freestyle at a slightly moderate pace (not sprint but more effort than easy) not a huge fan of breaststroke but I find it a nice resting stroke.
  20. At the moment I'd love to do a 5km open water swim early next year January or February in the eikenhof dam in grabouw. That's my only goal at the moment. Maybe long term if I keep going and I can get used to cold water I might try the robben island swim
  21. me and butterfly don't mix well
  22. This past sat I did my first 10km pool set. The longest set prior to this was 5km so I wasn't sure if I'd make it. But I took it easy for the first 6km and then just did 1km at a time. I broke the 10km up into 500m sets with a big variety. So each 500 was interesting. No shoulder pains and today my muscles aren't sore either. But I was stuffed the rest of sat and sun. I didn't eat properly after the swim so I felt it. Took me 3hr40 in the pool to finish but I'm super super happy and I now know I can do it. A huge mental block gone: My 10km 500: Warmup 500: Pull 500: 10 * (25 back / 25 breast) 500: 100 free / 100 moderate / 100 free / 100 moderate / 100 free 500: 10 * (25 kick / 25 pull) 500: Free 500: 5 * 100 (25 moderate / 25 free / 25 moderate / 25 free) 500: Catchup 500: Pull 500: Free 500: 5 * 100 (25 moderate / 25 free / 25 moderate / 25 free) 500: Free 500: 10 * (25 back / 25 breast) 500: 100 free / 100 moderate / 100 free / 100 moderate / 100 free 500: Free 500: Pull 500: 10 * (25 Free / 25 breast) 500: Free 500: Breast stroke 500: Free
