  1. Our event jersey design is just about finalised. Most sidepanel logo positions are still available to "purchase". (The ones on the pocket panel have been taken) For more info, please click here: http://www.buildabikesa.com/2016-947-cyclechallenge/

And most of all: THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS!!!
  3. Bike's ready. Let's do this. 34-19 gearing. Perfect to stare at while I drink beer!
  4. Hey guys, I'll be there (Build-a-Bike SA) and will have a bin for any parts you no longer need. Any and all donations are welcome. www.buildabikesa.com Or find Build-A-Bike SA on facebook. Can't wait for the race - it'll be my 4th year riding this one. Cheers!
  5. Riding in a team this year, so....... Single speed it'll be! 34x 19/20 Maybe I'll change mid-race, hehe.
  6. Hey everyone. I need a few parts to get a couple of bikes up and running: 27,2mm seatposts 31.8mm stems in 70/80/90mm Flat pedals MTB cranks and BB's v-brakes and disc brakes Thanks again to all who have helped us with parts in the past! We're trying to hit 100 bikes donated by the end of the year, that means we have to build and give away 34 bikes in the next 9 months.
  7. Yes Please! You can leave them at the Bike Park reception any time. Just tell them that they're for Build a Bike. Thanks a million!
  8. After almost 18 months of trying, someone has come to our aid and donated a kitted-out shipping container. www.speedspace.co.za very kindly came on board and converted a container into a workshop and storage facility, and delivered it to the PWC Cycle Park for us last week. This new facility will allow us to be more productive, more organized and ultimately help us get more guys on bikes!
  9. They sell fishing tickets and one may fish at certain dams. This is according to an email I got yesterday from Northern Farms management. He couldn't tell me what fish are there though, but it's catch and release. I'm hoping there's bass.....
  10. My first Kitted ring lasted over 3000km before it went onto a Build a bike. Onto my second and no issues. The noise I see mentioned can be chain related. On a Shimano SLX chain and a YBN chain (10s) no noise, but on a KMC 10s chain I had a kind of whirring noise for the first ride or 2, but now silent. (New chain and ring).
  11. That Mercer is by far the hottest, coolest and sweetest machine in the line up. How can one compare a mass-produced bike with a custom hand made machine. And it's steel.
  12. Hi Myles, Unfortunately I'm in JHB.....
  13. We now desperately need a shipping container to put down at PWC Cycle Park and move the Build a Bike initiative there, away from my home. We've now been able to give away 65 bikes and it's time for the next step. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity: The challenge - containers cost around R20k-R40k depending on options The opportunity - this container will act as a brilliant 6m wide billboard visible from Main road If anyone can assist or is willing to spinsor in part or in full, please contact me.
  14. BUMP Come and visit us at stand 24 at the Africa Cycle Fair
  15. I'll be exhibiting as Build-a-Bike SA, stand 24. Feel welcome to come and say hi and drop off any parts that you don't need anymore and couldn't be bothered trying to sell. I'll put them to good use. www.buildabikesa.com We'll also be auctioning off a Cotic Simple frame and having a Kitted raffle for a narrow wide chainring, cap and sticker pack
  16. We'll be at the Africa Cycle Fair. Come and say hi and bring us some parts that you don't need anymore! We're also auctioning off a Cotic frame and raffling off a Kitted chainring, cap and sticker set to raise funds.
  17. Bit of a bling upgrade: SAINT
  18. This brand deserves their own thread. Post your Cotics here. I'll start: My Solaris
  19. When the LBS makes sure the supplier overnights your R500 order and lends you a tool that you don't own. TOOL-UP CYCLES in Centurion (Midstream) gets my vote. Well done chaps!
  20. REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE I currently operate out of a small storage unit and an even smaller shed on my property. This is no longer sustainable as the storage unit is expensive and the shed is too small. I fund the initiative personally, but this is also no longer sustainable as my personal financial obligations are becoming more strained. I've been offered the opportunity to establish the initiative at the PWC Cycle Park in Bryanston - they will allow me to place a container on their property at no charge. This will give me the space and financial relief I need to continue this initiative. Please let me know if you would be willing and able to sponsor or subsidize a container for this use, be it a donation of container, or a long-term loan etc. The idea is to use the container as workshop and storage. Thanks in advance and warm regards,
  21. A busy Sunday afternoon saw me getting 3 bikes ready for donation. This brings our tally to 65 bikes donated since Aug 2011
  22. The only guys I know about in CT are benbikes.org.za
  23. Just a note on something that I've tried and works. I bought a NOS frame on the cheap and built her up with parts I had lying about. The interesting part is that I'm using 9-speed Tiagra shifters with a 10-speed 105 crank and RD on a 9-speed cassette with a 10-speed chain. Works like a charm.
