    RaceFace Issues

ok, new BB in! LBS said that the Raceface Evolve XC cannot accept the Shimano BB??? have i bee taken here or is this true? there are different RF cranks as i understand it..??? will soil myself if in 6months i need another BB......
  2. Hi All, i recently bought a bike with race face crank, now, about 6months later, the crank is very rough and there is a "clunk/clicking" noise on the right side when i pedal hard. the clunk is always at the "1 o clock" position... is this normal for Raceface? are these not very good cranks?? would swapping out to SLX be better? or XT maybe? oh, can one service a race Face crank by yourself?
  3. Thanks Scotty, will check it out.
  4. Hi All. i have two Family members that want to get bikes, must be dual suspension. where is the best place for price and what would you suggest for about R9k per bike? or a little more.... must also be new. thanks.
  5. would it not be worth while, on a race day taking a trainer with and warming up at the car for a while before heading up?? i stretch very lightly and find on days i dont stretch, my legs cramp. on days i do stretch, no cramping. that said, i stretch daily even on days i dont ride.... Agree, it is very frustrating but i guess i will have to endure through it and eventually bring it down a few Km. and im guessing that going hard from the start is a NO NO??
  6. Thanks guys, when you refer to "warm up" in what way? stretching? riding? and where would one usually ride before a race to warm up if that is what you mean? here is what i do, i stretch for about 5 min before i ride... then just pedal slowly for the first 1.5-2km, harder till about 6km and then quite hard till 11ish.... then i die and think WTF am i doing on a bicycle... i pedal slow for another 1-1.5km and then all hell breaks loose and i just keep going!!! i do not have HR monitor so have no idea what HR is when i do get the energy...
  7. HI Guys, quick question. i have been riding, only MTB, for about 15months now. what started out as recreation turned into wanting to get really fit. im a big guy, 110kg, ride a heavy bike, 16.5kg's and my question is this- when i ride, for the first 8-10km i want to die, feels like my legs are no longer there and at about 11km i slow down quiet badly... but then at about 11-12km i have this insane energy than comes in (i eat nothing, drink only water) and i can really give it plenty!! i have power, more so than when i started, im faster on the flats... its almost as if it take me that long to "warm up" does anyone else have this issue and how can i get the warm up to kick in quicker...??? regards.
  8. I have a Giant VT. has XT M770 (long cage?) rear de rail, LX front de rail and shifters. hayes nine brakes. 203mm front and 180mm rear. Race face crank. Sram cassette. bike is 9speed. my plan.- XT shifters. XT rear De rail. SLX front De rail. or would the SLX rear De rail be a better choice? apparently its tougher than XT??
  9. which of the two would be the better, stronger and more reliable Shifter? the 2005 LX SHIFTERS and Front De rail. or the 2010 SLX SHIFTERS and Front De rail. my bike is a 2005 model, recently bought it barnd new. (if you can believe that) but the components are from Noa's ARK!! so looking to up grade.
  10. Thanks guys... i will check it out.... but im sure you guys are spot on as the bikes are about 3years apart...! will check numbers!
  11. Ok, so i have a shimano XT Rear De-rail and so does me Finace'. but the two comonents are totally different?? the branding badge is the same, but the rest is like chalk and cheese.... surely if you buy product "X" labeled "Y" they should be the same?? or in this case is it like i have an XT- Fly and and "liefie" has XT-flew???? help this NOOB out here...
  12. HI All. im new here and have a few questions... i have done a seaerch but i think i am missing something.... so mind if i ask a question or two here?? 1. I ride a GIANT VT MTN bike, with ALEX x4 rims, (Recently buckled a Mavic x223) and Maxxis Ardent tires 2.25. pressure at about 2.2 bar. with tubes. this bike was the model before the Giant Reign. it has huge travel. the question. what tires are best for all round use? i have NO fear going down hill and what are rocks??? i need tires that will grip going around corners at high speed... i know horses for corses, but what is a general good quality all round tire...? so far i have researched these combinations- Front- Mountain king 2.4 Rear- Race king 2.2 Front- Maxxis mono rail Rear- Maxxis cross mark. Front Kenda rear kenda- the ones similar to the Medusa- but apparently these are very good all rounders.? but heavy... the problem.... i weight 115kg (6'2") and my bike as it is now is about 15kg. so im moving allot of weight... at what pressures would you recommend i ride at with witch tire combo...?? or if you could suggest any other tire that would suit me better. 2. i dont do downhill, but i ride very rough over rock and when there is a singe track that is technical or rough,i usually fly as fast as i can... si need tires that can take my weight and take big hits when doing rough work.... and yes... im VERY S...L...O...W... up hills..... most of my riding is all purpose, but i need a tire that will take punishment.... i know i should go Tubeless... but $$$ is dictating that right now.... any help would be great. thanks allot!
