  1. Does anyone have a google earth map of karkloof. i rode there a few weeks back but the trailers were not marked well at all. got lost there were yellow board marked "demo" that took me on a short circuit and to polo fields... then there were SMALL little arrows cut from that yellow reflector tape here and there but nothing more..... but the trailers i rode were unbelievable!!!! at the river i spent a while just chilling! water was high and crossing was fun!
  2. Robrider- i see your point and i too have never run out of gear on dirt road using 44-11. only on steep down hill tar road... but then again, i do tar so rarely, id rather have the clearance and lighter components. thanks Guys!
  3. ok, ground clearance i too thought would be an issue... so with a 48 up front and 11 at the rear this should buy all account be very fast on flat and down hill? Normal is like 44-32-22? with 11-34.... so im thinking (or being a dumb ass) that with the 26 up front and ( currently have22) and the 36 at the rear (current 34) it will simulate the current "granny" gear? because as i understand it, the bigger upfront and smaller rear = fast/hard to pedal and the reverse is smaller upfront bigger rear the more torque? so with the 26 upfront and 36 rear it should work? BigGuy- you do get a SLX in this config. apparently.......
  4. Hi, Can i use the following combination? Shimano SLX 3x9 48-36-26T and 11-36 cassette on an Anthem build? the pros and cons?
  5. Anyone know when these are available? and possible price? im busy building a bike and have the the current XO 9speed. but might wait for these if they are near??
  6. ok sounding good. does the Anthem have "bob" when you pedal hard/ up hill? and is it just the Maestro suspension that giant use or the 4" travel or the entire combination?
  7. So i have decided that the Giant anthem is the better buy for me over the Giant Trance. But Enter the Ghost RT Lector 7700... which of the two would you say is the better buy. both are around R25k does anyone know the difference is weight as i cannot find this info anywhere! or can you suggest other bikes that are in this category? i am after a bike hopefully no more than 12kgs! Anthem Strength

i have checked the Trans out on line and it look very strong! it will hold me no problem!! i just want a bike that will climb well too... i know, i would like my cake and eat it!! :) but at under 12kg;s Vs my VT's 17.5KG-ish will make a huge difference!! now i just need to ride one!!

    Anthem Strength

Sweet guys, thank you! Will go check the trance out! are all the trance x frames the same? weight wise? i know the sizes and angles change a bit from S-XL but there is no real difference between an X4 vs X1? the advanced SL is carbon?? so that is in another class.

    Anthem Strength

ok... guess the compass is pointing toward the trance...... As "just keep pedaling" said, sooner or later..... and id rather it be never and be slower on the hills.... Noli, how did the trans X2 perform over or under the reign?

    Anthem Strength

my head is confused... its allot of cash to make a mistake with.... i like the anthem ALLOT! most of my riding is XC but when there is a rough patch i like to hit it hard or take the jump! i think i must ride a trance see what it handles like... its only the "landing" from the drop offs and jumps im worried about because of my weight, the climbing aspect as you guys have said there is not much in it because of weight, is not a huge factor then.

    Anthem Strength

i did not consider the Trance. will look at it. i definitely gained on the climbs as i was watching the clock, was about 8-9km/h faster on all the climbs. legs just left like they were never going to get tired, was light and easy! with my VT... its slow up hill..... and weighs 17.5kg's!!!! the Anthem was fast, smooth and handled the route easily!!! but im worried when i do take it on thr rough stuff! i will have a look at the trance, does anyone know if its as fast as the Anthem. while it might weigh the same, is it as quick or am i smoking my socks thinking this?
  14. Hi All, i currently have a Giant VT. its a very strong bike, it's designed for bigger jumps and all-mountain. the Giant Reign is in fact my bikes newer version. i bought it because i wanted a bike that could handle the rougher trails at a higher speed and i wanted to do a few lighter down hill tracks.... i now find the bike very heavy for XC and trails.... my Future farther in-law has a Giant Anthem X3 and i took it for a spin... i have rout that i follow and usually i do it in about 2hrs, on the anthem i did it in 1hr 27. so i am a sh*t load faster on the anthem..... now i NEED one!! :) my question is this- how strong is the anthem really?? i am 6'2" and weigh 112kg's. ( i have lead bones)... now, will the anthem handle my weight doing rough terrain, rough rock gardens, jumps and about 3feet drop offs? would the anthem X29er be a better bet?? i dont want to spend the cash and find i land and my front wheel carries on while i munch sand!!
  15. Witch of the two would be a better rim for XC. not hectic stuff, more for races. my plan is to make one set for races, one for road/slicks. i have Mavics but looking to but a second set of rims. or is ther anything else i should consider. i do want strong rims for the races though. budget is around R2000, thats including everything. a stretch iknow...

    RaceFace Issues

ok, new BB in! LBS said that the Raceface Evolve XC cannot accept the Shimano BB??? have i bee taken here or is this true? there are different RF cranks as i understand it..??? will soil myself if in 6months i need another BB......
  18. Hi All, i recently bought a bike with race face crank, now, about 6months later, the crank is very rough and there is a "clunk/clicking" noise on the right side when i pedal hard. the clunk is always at the "1 o clock" position... is this normal for Raceface? are these not very good cranks?? would swapping out to SLX be better? or XT maybe? oh, can one service a race Face crank by yourself?
  19. Thanks Scotty, will check it out.
  20. Hi All. i have two Family members that want to get bikes, must be dual suspension. where is the best place for price and what would you suggest for about R9k per bike? or a little more.... must also be new. thanks.
  21. would it not be worth while, on a race day taking a trainer with and warming up at the car for a while before heading up?? i stretch very lightly and find on days i dont stretch, my legs cramp. on days i do stretch, no cramping. that said, i stretch daily even on days i dont ride.... Agree, it is very frustrating but i guess i will have to endure through it and eventually bring it down a few Km. and im guessing that going hard from the start is a NO NO??
  22. Thanks guys, when you refer to "warm up" in what way? stretching? riding? and where would one usually ride before a race to warm up if that is what you mean? here is what i do, i stretch for about 5 min before i ride... then just pedal slowly for the first 1.5-2km, harder till about 6km and then quite hard till 11ish.... then i die and think WTF am i doing on a bicycle... i pedal slow for another 1-1.5km and then all hell breaks loose and i just keep going!!! i do not have HR monitor so have no idea what HR is when i do get the energy...
  23. HI Guys, quick question. i have been riding, only MTB, for about 15months now. what started out as recreation turned into wanting to get really fit. im a big guy, 110kg, ride a heavy bike, 16.5kg's and my question is this- when i ride, for the first 8-10km i want to die, feels like my legs are no longer there and at about 11km i slow down quiet badly... but then at about 11-12km i have this insane energy than comes in (i eat nothing, drink only water) and i can really give it plenty!! i have power, more so than when i started, im faster on the flats... its almost as if it take me that long to "warm up" does anyone else have this issue and how can i get the warm up to kick in quicker...??? regards.
  24. I have a Giant VT. has XT M770 (long cage?) rear de rail, LX front de rail and shifters. hayes nine brakes. 203mm front and 180mm rear. Race face crank. Sram cassette. bike is 9speed. my plan.- XT shifters. XT rear De rail. SLX front De rail. or would the SLX rear De rail be a better choice? apparently its tougher than XT??
  25. which of the two would be the better, stronger and more reliable Shifter? the 2005 LX SHIFTERS and Front De rail. or the 2010 SLX SHIFTERS and Front De rail. my bike is a 2005 model, recently bought it barnd new. (if you can believe that) but the components are from Noa's ARK!! so looking to up grade.
