  1. I did the clean rotors thing when i built the bike up. didnt do the sanding thing. riding tomorrow so will bed them in them. the brake leaver does not feel spongy at all. could just be the bedding in thing- thanks guys.
  2. So just built a HT XTC and have NEW XT breaks on. the Front are cracking and if i'm not careful, they lock instantly! the rear however are weak to sat the least.... i try pull really hard on the lever and they just squeal and dont lock up at all. when im not riding and pushing the bike they lock with one finger! but with momentum... no chance.... when i put the breaks on, the cables were too long for the rear and had my LBS shorten them, the cables.... could they have botched the job? did the same to the front and they are fine...?? Pads? fluid? rear rotor is 160. front is 180.
  3. I looked at this whole story and decided that i dont want to risk it. i will in future once i have learned how. but for now its with the LBS that said i must gravity bleed. i also dont have time right now to sit an think.
  4. what is best- was told that the syringe will be fine by one LBS and the other said NO- gravity fed on the XT 2012 brakes. something about the syringe method damaging the Seals/diaphragm in the fluid pot?
  5. 2012 Giant XTC. im sure there must be.
  6. Cool. i will do so. but is there a sealed head set that one can get. ?
  7. ok so the build is coming allong on the XTC..... what i want to ask is that when i put the headset in, the bearings were loose and spacers everywhere etc... i tried to figure out where they went and it seems i have placed them correctly as there is no movement... except for the fact that the steering is very tight/stiff. it does not swing freely when i move the bike. i physically have to move the steering if i want it to swing, there is also a rough sound when it swings, like two spacers rubbing against each other? When i put the bearings in i cleaned the head tube very well, each bearing was wiped down and new grease was put in there was/is NO dirt in the head set. but yet it feels like it binding somewhere? so my actual question is- does one get a sealed headset that simply replaces whats in there with no loose bearings and seals etc.....?? Just top and bottom, maybe a new crown racer and job done! no messy grease as its all in the sealed headset?
  8. Learning plenty here guys... Thank you!! On the noisy issue, i dont mind a bit of a crrrr but definitely not the LOUD one... and if it rules Hope out its ok, dont have the cash for them anyhow.... I have used XT's before and didnt have an issue.... maybe worth me checking these out. although, do they have sealed Bearings like the X9's? Of the two, what would you choose.
  9. Eish... i forgot about that aspect.... the hubs need to be silent.... i really do not like that loud crrrrrrrrrrr every time i freewheel......
  10. ok cool, that does make life much easier! and spares etc are easy and cheap to get for the Hope/Superstar hubs? having imported the Superstars... hope im sure is available? Im looking at the MAVIC set that Naas suggested, way do they guys say the hubs need more TLC than other hubs??
  11. Good Question.....
  12. Says the man who said he had a set of XT (parallelogram) V brakes and should i want them he'd sell them to me. Trail also went quiet when you gave my front wheel away (when i brought bike in for a service) said you would recover it.. it's been two years now...... OOPS.... But this thread is NOT about that.... carry on...
  13. I had a set of 26" 819's and they died....
  14. Its for a 29er XTC So who online? a local on line like CWC someone like CRC? whats wrong with buying a complete wheel set on line?
  15. Can you recommend any specific rim models eg SL etc.... There is a set on SL Mavic wheels for sale but price is out of my range.
  16. Know where i can sell my kidney?
  17. There is more to this story but that's for another time....... maybe never.... i did post it but then edited..... my bad.!
  18. So... buy Rims on line - best online shop? buy Hubs online- best online shop? Superstar? buy spokes + nipples online? best online shop? Get local guy to build them.... ?? Tumble- Im a heavy rider..... 115kgs. and ride hard... so they NEED to take a serious Pounding!!!! id like a wheel set around the 1900g mark but maybe im being to optimistic.... I rode my giant Anthem with P-XC wheels, 2.2kgs HARD and they seemed fine.... so anything as good or better for R4500 will be magic.
  19. not to upgrade.... i just DONT HAVE wheels at the moment and looking to buy a set.... So who is best to buy the Hoops from and who is best to buy the components such as spokes, nipples and hubs from and what to buy? its for a Giant XTC and doesn't the rear spacing come into play for the rear axel???
  20. Cool will contact these people. Email sent
  21. I've left about 5 messages for him in the past about other related bike questions. But he never returns my calls... i even wanted to buy a set of XT V- breaks from him... Any way.... Anyone else you can recommend?
  22. What was the shipping cost? i see they have a wheel set there, ZTR flow with black Evo Hubs- 180 quid ????
  23. The Problem is that i don't know who to speak to. And i'm really just going on what my LBS recommended. but if i can find someone who can build for that price- ill go with them! All online prices seem to be 5k +
  24. Im going to having a wheel set built up with ZTR flow rims, DT swis spokes and X9 Hubs. i have a Budget of R4500. MAX. what Hubs would be better value for money or just better than the X9's? i would like Hope/C king but budget is very limited.
  25. Thanks but way out of my price league- the cheapest they have is R8000 per set, excluding shipping and duties... so will have to go local...
