    Bashing cranks!

My rear Shock is pumped to 215psi. ?? Always has been. Who makes a 29er that has got the geometry correct? i did a search, and not that its scientific proof, but all the 26ers seem to have a BB inline with the axles. all 29er's seem to have a BB about 1"-1.5" lower.... cannot shorten the crank arm by that much
  2. Sorry for the long winded explanation..... but..... When I got my 29er, I sold the drivetrain- crank, cassette, chain front and rear derialures , which were shimano 2x10 and replaced with my older Sram. I was/am Very happy with the 29er but I notice that the cranks are lower than on the 26er and bash allot more than my 26er ever did. I did not want to believe it but this morning was forced to face reality… Now I don’t know if the original cranks arms that came with the 29er were shorter than what I had on the 26er which I moved over after selling the 2x10... Today at Groenkloof, going up the section where those wood discs are laid down next to the rocky incline, I cleared the 1st rocky section and about 1/4th up the next section. When I rode an anthem 26er last week I got almost up the whole section about ¾ the way up. What happened this morning was as I was climbing, my crank arm smashed into rock and the bike came to a sudden, solid halt! Got going again and it happened two or three times after that too… eventually I pushed the 29er where I was still peddling the 26er…. Truth be told though, I like the 29er, on normal rides its comfy and for me it feels quicker which helps with my “placebo effect” J and it would be great for me if I could just get that crank higher! So…. Do I sell the Giant and try find something with a higher crank or put shorter cranks on…? I am 1.83m, ride a medium bike and I currently have 175mm (or something like that) XT cranks. What would the implications be with the shorter crank arms, higher seat post and higher riding position? But what would it do to the actual pedaling? Shorter crank more or less torque… higher cadence to get the same speed from current set up…?? Im just SO gatvol of smashing the cranks!!!!
  3. Its relatively easy... one or two long hills but nothing steep and long.... mostly jeep track with some very nice single track along the river and canals. one rocky section down at the river, if one could call it that. if you do trail running this should be quiet easy for you to complete.
  4. done first thing this morning over coffee...
  5. Solomons!!!!!!!
  6. Done! Keep going back guys!
  7. Total "MACHINE".......
  8. You are 100% correct. both sets are licensed. The double 16g as a 16 Gauge and the 16g 8x64 as a 16g hunting rifle. Since my family has been in the firearms dealer trade for almost 55 years now, all the T's are crossed and eyes are doted. i was merely saying that although it sounds odd to read "12 Gauge hunting rifle" technically they are not incorrect IF (and i doubt it) the farmer has/had a *gauge/rifle combo.... anyway... But we are OT now.
  9. Actually..... one does get a *guage/rifle combo. i have a 16guage/8x64 (not 7x64) Merkel U/O 16g on top, 8x64 under... It has a 2nd set of barrels that are double 16g. its classed as a 16 gauge hunting rifle... Odd i know, doesn't sound right and looks even more odd on paper... But im just splitting hairs :)
  10. Stake-out at Neil's ....?? i'm that keen i had to post it twice!
  11. Stake-out at Neil's ....??
  12. Give that man a bells!!!!!
  13. What he said...!!!
  14. Once done, squeeze some fresh lemon juice over them, just a tad or a lemon-butter sauce! *runs off to buy some Ssparragus! *
  15. Yep... thats pretty much how its done....
  16. Glad we agree on the safety issue... but dude, it becomes safety issue... (if riders can get in so can they) as i'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to take your life for a bicycle- (Darwin reference) yes they can get in anywhere, and we must remember that it is a working gate for the farming at NF, and we are privileged to ride there... So we cant really demand they close it... but every little thing each of us can do to make it harder for these guys not to sneak in will ensure future use and keep us all safer. My OP was/is about people sneaking in, i was also just thinking about the bigger picture.... i apologize for my comment.
  17. So you choose to turn a blind eye? While others fight the fight you'll just reap the spoils of their backs.... ??? Look at the Groenkloof thread.... how many people came out with solutions and offers to help.... even wanting Walkie-talkies to report suspicious while they ride.... ??? They wanted to keep a seriously nice park open because they realize the little piece of gold that is Groenkloo!! Why must someone always get hurt before we do anything...?? If riders are getting in at that gate, you can bet your bottom dollar that Bike jackers/thieves are too.... its only a matter of time..... but its because of the "it will never happen to me" mentality.... they have already close a section of NF because of safety... Apologies if i came across aggro guys! i just feel quiet strongly about our riding grounds... the streets are not safe and we have few parks in JHB that we can let rip at... why not pull our weight and help them safe and open......
  18. WOW.... The Darwin force runs strong in this one...... Here is your sign.........
  19. And when your fav MTB riding spot (where ever it is) gets closed because of these W*@kers... you will be the FIRST one to WAAAAH police about it... but don't, because you did nothing to stop it... i dont see how you can say its got nothing to do with you.... do you condone theft and turn the blind eye to that too....??
  20. could not have said it better..... They are actually pathetic....
  21. It really does boggle ones mind at how stupid some people are... the level of arrogance in these "back doors" is astounding!! The shallow end of the gene pool.....
  22. I received the following email in the Group email from Simon Nash- i am posting it here merely so others who ride there and are not on the mailing list can see/read what is going on.... do you guys want to lose Northern farms?? I have no affiliation to NF and am posting purely as a concerned user/rider... "Dear Mountain biker The use of Northern Farm by recreational users is an arrangement that is subject to the management of sensitive relationships between the recreational user group, Farm Management, Johannesburg Water and the surrounding community. It is also subject to very specific terms and conditions, one of which is that the only access and exit for recreational users other than equestrian users should be through the main gate. An ever increasing hindrance to the good relationship between the user group and farm management is the insistence of some mountain bikers that they should use the gate on the Hills and Dales side of the farm to exit and enter the farm. In spite of our attempts to prevent this, and the placing of guards at the Hills and Dales Gate, some mountain bikers insist that this is their right, even going so far as to act in an abusive fashion towards the guards. The purpose of this notice is to advise the user group of the risks that access to the farm may be lost for the entire user group because of the selfish and unacceptable behaviour of mountain bikers who insist on using this gate. We therefore appeal to all concerned to respect the rules of the farm and only access and exit the farm via the main gate, failure to do so will result in those who insist on ignoring this rule being treated as trespassers in the interests of protecting access for all recreational farm users. Any enquiries in this regard can be directed to members of the committee found on the website under contact. Yours sincerely Simon Nash On behalf of Northern Farm Recreational User Group Committee " Come on guys, it not necessary!
  23. Yes, there will always be ups and downs..... but trying to make an "extra" out of customers by adding the Mark up to a warranty claim?? i got told."its no longer 30% but 60%- that's the new warranty." luckily i had done some prior home work and when i heard the 60%, bells went off.... the distributor even asked me who the shop was as the distributor was miff that this shop was deviating from their warranty and ripping clients off.... while i don't expect LBS's to perform miracles.... is it reasonable to expect some honesty...??
  24. This exact store wanted to change me 60% of new price for a warranty replacement on a helmet- called the distributor and they confirmed 30% of original purchase price- (i still had the receipt) I collected my helmet immediately.... No way was i going to taken for an extra 30%...!!!! that would have been an extra R585....!!! Will never go back there..... and i think they are calling themselves- "fast pace cycles" now.... cant bring myself to use capitals....
