SA usually does well in the worlds, i competed in 3 world champ events, i took Gold in the UK in 1994. In my division. That year SA came home with 7 golds! and a few silvers and bronze. 13 medals in total if i remember correctly. Depends on what you consider decent- and for your needs. its the same as buying an 85k bicycle for a weekend warrior .. if you can, great. but i have not been in the game for so long im sure you would get something decent for about 7-10k ?

I do a few of these for guys who need it- we had to shoot an arrow with a line attached, they then would pull the line back over with a thicker line until they could get the cable over to pull scaffolding up the side- A few attempts from the plat form inside and no go.... i modified the bow to about 90-95lbs and still no go... they build a platform inside and nothing... eventually i accepted defeat.... they got a helicopter in to drop the cable and because of the up draft in the tower, it almost pushed the chopper into the other towers.... i have posted these before though.

Research made it clear that it would be about 7-9k for the conversion. so i decided to try get the tektros working- they were Squealing badly changes brake pads and they are much better- i now need 100m to stop and not 300m :) my hunt for the XT calipers with Cantilevers continues.
  5. Was not on the ride- but bought my fiance's KTM from them. great service, discount on advertised price and threw in a new set of pedals and shorter stem for her. free! they were friendly, we joked about and was great to get good service! all comes down to attitude from both sides!! well.... 90% of the time hehehe... some times there are just chop shops!

Well that is why i started to see who does and did and who might take it up- i have not shot a bow for close on 4years now, and also plan on getting back into it full force this year- im looking at the Hoyt CRX or maxxis 32. (both old models) i like the short axis bows. a bit unstable, especially at the 30"+ draw lengths. i dont plan on going over 60-65lbs due to shoulder injury and anything more than that is just a waste- that or finally getting that low bow ive always wanted....

And one does not need a licence for a bow..... with a BP gun, one must prove competency!

Redge and his guys at are great! how is the Bowtec treating you?? And agreed, it is very lekker! what i like about it is that it quiet- social and fun. once you have made the initial layout you can shoot for months using the same arrows. this firearms it a constant expense with ammunition. Ha ha ha, that said archery is like cycling... there is always something you "need" one can also shoot in your yard, passage or garage. I am bow less at the moment, but i used to shoot with Hoyt- also only with the aggressive bows with max 6.5" brace height! but since my shoulder injury i will have to look at other more forgiving set ups, also wont go over 65lbs. Not necessary. @eccentric1- you could do both? but i'm done with guns,(suppose i never will be) since i was 4 i have been in the gun arena and i find it too "loud" now.... its not as social as Archery for me... but black power is a different ball (excuse the pun) game though- in my competing years i used to glue smarties to a page and shoot them at 20yars. I could hit 7-8/10 most days.
  11. This new is shocking and very saddening... its almost like there is a hole in the cycling community now.... it just seems "different" now..... Our sincere condolences to his family!!! R.I.P Burry, you will be sorely missed!!

Who among the hubbers does archery? where do you shoot and what bow do you shoot. post some pic's and lets discus! i have been doing Archery for 21 years now, since i was 13. competed for a while but stopped in 2003. used a compound bow but my real love is a long bow... Recurve is fun too, no sights!
  13. Yep!!! that was her!
  14. Absolutely- one never knows a person circumstances- i will never forget that old guy.....
  15. In no way am i implying anything here- your post just made me remember an incident in this years Argus- we did the tandem thing and there was a guy who was riding on his own on a tandem.... the people threw ALL the jokes at him... eventually he cracked and with tears in his eyes- (when someone shouted," She's fallen off!") he shouted,"she did not fall She died 3 weeks ago, and i'm still riding in her memory!!!) there was total silence in the area for a few seconds.... we really felt for the poor guy..... he was about 60 odd... OT i know but when i read your post it made me think of that...

    Bashing cranks!

After riding with Dubber and seeing a different approach, i will stay with the 29'er. i do prefer it to the 26er, i was just worried about the cranks bashing! but it just means i need to change riding style.

    Bashing cranks!

Yeah- that's what Dubber showed me..... was great seeing a different Angle...
  20. Coming in the gates last here... but if anyone else has an entry they cant use..... let me know... i will DEFINITELY make use of it!!!!

    Bashing cranks!

So... it turns out i have a lack of talent... and a leaking shock..... was picking the wrong lines on the 29er.... mind shift for me is needed to take different lines. Odd though, the lines i used of the 26 work well.... oh and i need to get fitter... i'm fat and slow!!! Thanks for the pointers and advise Dubber88. Sorry to have kept you waiting all the time!

    Bashing cranks!

Would like to ride with you sometime and learn from you, i am probably doing something wrong and cant figure it out on the 29er... while on the 26er i do better.... maybe i just need a pointers and all will be sorted! ??

    Bashing cranks!

    Giant Aanthems 26er VS 29er.
  24. Neg

    Bashing cranks!

My anthem 29er center of BB to floor- 325mm. center of pedal shaft 145mm. The Anthem 26" Center of BB to floor- 345mm. Center of pedal shaft 165mm. both shocks at 200psi- both bikes have XT 175mm crank and 540 SPD spedals. he 29er is lower by 20mm. give or take a few mm for other factors like tire new vs old worn tires etc... So now we move to talent..... when riding the rough rocky up hill, and there is a clear "line" that everyone takes as anywhere else is soccer ball size rocks and there is only one line... how do you get through there with out bashing- knowing that you HAVE to pedal at that point ... do you just accept you are going to bash and break your momentum? because i tried as said with 26 and 29 and the 26 i could pedal through no prob... 29er bashed... So how do you ride it? so now im not so sure that the "pros" of the 29er are worth it if i cannot ride rocky uphills.... because i have to stop pedaling... push through the section and try again... can i buy talent anywhere? what does it cost???

    Bashing cranks!

Thanks Johan, very interesting..... where else could the problem be? as mentioned the rear shock is pumped to 210spi, so there is the recommended 10% sag, push the o ring up, gently climb on as sit, gently climb off so ther is no bouncing, the ring moves down about 10% of total travel- (you taught me this measurement) i have a 175mm crank on at the moment. the 26er anthem has the same crank. when riding Groenkloof, there was not a single bash in close on 100km over 3 rides! with the 29er it bashes every ride, every time... and in the same places, i now get to those spots and approach differently, pedal up to the spot and try have enough momentum to carry me through with the cranks horizontal so it does not bash- i have tested this- With the 26er i am able to pedal over the exact same spot with ease.... not even a hint of crank wanting to bash.... whether im standing or sitting.... same scenario.... so i dont think its luck.... yes, talent it could be... maybe i just dont know how to ride a 29er.... and the suspension is very hard and there is very little bob.... still bashes.... so between talent and suspension.... one of them is lacking... or both.....
